Chapter 7: Fear is Developed From Experience
Knock! Knock!
Clack!
Oak opened the door and saw a stranger standing in front of his door. This was another thing he knew nothing about.
"Let's go! Senior Brother is waiting for us."
Oak nodded and stepped out. He had already prepared everything for this. He also returned the books to the Fourth elder and took a mission from the sect.
A mission suitable for the Eastern Wilderness Region.
The Senior Brother took him outside the sect, where eight people were waiting for him.
Among these eight people, he recognized two students.
These were two students who didn't know much about the cultivation.
When Arvin saw him coming, he nodded and said.
"They should be your fellow brothers. This time, we will be entering the Eastern Wilderness Region to hunt down the Purple Flame Bird of Third Rank."
"More importantly, we need to knock it down. We mustn't kill it. It is important to me. After we knock it down, you three will pick it up and bring it to the sect."
"Along the way, we will protect three of you. You just have to do it, and I will give you five bottles of Essence Pills."
Oak immediately understood why this person chose them. Not only would this help him bring back the bird, but it would also mean he could give up at any moment and run away in case it attracts other powerful monsters.
After all, an unconscious monster was more attractive to other monsters than a human.
While humans could hide, an unconscious monster couldn't.
For a moment, he almost wanted to reject it and return to the sect. But then he remembered this guy had a Sixth Rank father.
If he asked his father to make trouble for his parents, at best they would be crippled.
In this worlds, rules meant 'Go f**k them'.
"Yes, Senior Brother!"
The other two didn't understand this and immediately replied. Hearing them, Oak also nodded and spoke.
"Yes, Senior Brother!"
Arvin saw his hesitation, but since Oak agreed, he didn't say anything.
Alongside Arvin, there were three boys and one girl.
All of them should be the same as Arvin, not in strength but in age.
"Let's go!"
For cultivators, running was much faster than taking any mode of transportation. Besides, the only mode of transportation was carriage and horses.
So, they started running.
After three hours of continuous running at high speed, the other two were heavily panting, especially the one with One Star Martial Spirit. They stopped near a checkpoint.
"Tsk! Take this and continue running."
Seeing it, Arvin snorted and took out three bottles, the size of his palm. It had several yellow pills that looked very much like candies.
He threw those bottles at them. Although Oak wasn't tired, he wasn't much better either. At least, he wasn't as comfortable as these seniors.
He took out one pill and ate it.
The moment it entered his throat, he felt a strong energy entering his blood veins. The pill dispersed in his throat and entered his blood veins directly, giving him an extra dose of energy.
With their speed of running, they had already crossed fifty miles. They were already entering the Inner Region.
There was a checkpoint between the Inner Region and the Core Region, and it was divided by a large wall.
So, even if they weren't tired, they had to stop here.
After Arvin finished the identification process, he got a card and returned to the team.
"Let's go!"
Others immediately followed after him, and within another six hours and two more recovery pills, they had crossed the Inner Region and reached the Outer Region.
Once again, they went through a similar process, and just like before, there was a wall.
While they were running on the road, Oak was also observing the surroundings. Because he didn't get this chance before.
He couldn't afford the pass of 1 Silver, so he didn't travel much after coming to the core region.
So, this time, he carefully checked his surroundings.
Just as he expected, the buildings themselves reflected the situation of people living in three different regions.
The Core Region had several mansions and tall buildings with beautiful design, while the Inner Region mostly had tall buildings with simple design.
The Outer Region had barely one tall building near the road they traveled.
Not only that, the roads were much better in the Core Region, while starting from the Inner Region, they didn't get much better.
Maybe because there wasn't a lot of maintenance in the Inner Region, but it had a large population, while in the Outer Region, it would often get invaded by Monster Beasts.
Because of the Monster Beasts, Oak was living in fear every single time a Beast Raid would occur.
Fear of losing his parents!
This fear intensified even more after he became a cultivator.
Because to him, if his power couldn't even save his family, what was the point of his cultivation?
Soon, it was getting evening. Before they crossed the Outer Region, they decided to get some sleep here.
They found a good inn and decided to spend a night there.
When they were going to their room, Oak noticed that the girl from the team went to the same room as Arvin.
But he didn't think too much and went to his room. This room was for his fellow students.
During the entire journey, they had hardly spoken to each other.
But they did know each other.
The one with One Star Martial Spirit was called Owen, and the one with Two Star Martial Spirit was called Rocks.
Owen and Rocks didn't say anything to Oak and went to sleep. They were too tired from this journey.
Even their feet were hurting like hell.
If they weren't so afraid of these seniors' strength, they would've spoken about it before.
Now, they just wanted to take the bed and sleep.
Oak didn't disturb them either.
He also needed a good sleep because he was tired just like them. Although his feet didn't hurt much, he did get a lot tired from this journey.
But while sleeping, he couldn't help but think about the progress he had made today.
Because of the excess recovery pills, he tried using Quick Steps.
Quick Steps was a simple movement practiced through Phoenix Sword Art. It required exerting their strength in their legs and gaining higher speed.
Throughout the journey, Oak was trying his best to maintain the strength he applied to his leg.
Because he used it for an entire day, he had gotten a lot better with it.
'If I go through a similar journey tomorrow, I will have much more experience with Quick Steps. After that, I can use the Quick Strike from Phoenix Sword Art.'
Since Phoenix Sword Art didn't have any specific moves, he decided to name those basic moves because they were much better than his basic moves.
The next day, his team woke up and were forced to run again.
Owen and Rocks were performing worse than yesterday, so much so that Arvin almost considered dropping them here.
If he did that, without enough silver, they couldn't return to the Sect within a month and would be considered traitors.
It was a vicious move. Fortunately, the only girl in the team took pity on them, and the other three also explained how they needed someone to hold the body of the Purple Flame Bird.
It was at this moment that those two learned the cruel nature of the cultivators.
Oak was silent about this whole thing. Because he neither had the courage nor the strength to go against Arvin.
Especially when they were outside.
Even if Arvin killed him, nothing would happen to Arvin. The sect wouldn't even raise their finger.
Otherwise, how could Arvin force them to leave the sect?
The Sect cared about talent and survivors. For them, the conflicts would make the students stronger.
So, they naturally preferred the students to bully the weaker ones. This way, they could find more talented people and survivors with strength.
It was the nature of this world.
Oak had felt it when he was running with his parents during the previous Beast Raid.
He was deeply impressed by this. When people had the strength to help others, they would rather step on them than help them.
Maybe it was his luck or his parents' luck, the beast chasing them got distracted by another dead beast and stopped pursuing them.
From that day, he trained harder so that he could protect his parents.
Even if this world was cruel to him and his parents, he wanted to go against it and protect those precious to him.
He tried to blend with this world. Maybe that way he could survive.
That's exactly why he ignored the matter of Owen and Rocks. If they argued, they would be courting their death.
If they didn't argue, Arvin could leave them behind.
It was their luck that they survived.
