Chapter 26: Prestidigitation
'Alright, first and foremost, what the hell is this guy doing here?'
Derek, surrounded by the fiercest Metas his clones couldn't quite subdue, including Vandal Savage, Cheetah, a dark-skinned sand user who had trapped Barry before and a short female who was responsible for the large shadowy monster.
But amongst all these individuals, was a man in a large blue jacket, the same one you'd wear for freezing temperatures, and blue goggles
Beside him was a more gruff bald male wearing welding goggles.
They both carried peculiar firearms, large and clunky. The former's gun fashioned a bright blue glow in its centre, built to look futuristic.
Meanwhile, the latter male's gun was far less appealing, its crude appearance matching the owner as it carried a small gas chamber on its side.
'Captain Cold and Heatwave…I like the Flash show and everything, but I can't stand these two.'
He enjoyed the Flash, however, into the first season, even he had to admit the way these two villains posed more of a threat than they should have irked him.
'I can't kill them either. Especially Snart. He's responsible for destroying the Time Bureau in the future. They'll prove to be troublesome for me later if I don't let him sacrifice himself.'
Despite this, Derek raised his hand, pointing out his index finger like a gun.
"What's that supposed to be, brat? If you need a gun just ask. I've got one right here that I think you'll like." Snart spoke in a mocking tone, raising his cold gun.
'I guess this'll do.'
A small piece of Eclipse gathered before Derek's finger like a bullet until…
-WIZ
-BANG
The bullet shot out, striking Snart in the centre of his forehead as his head snapped back, his eyes rolling to the back of his skull.
'It…was that easy…man, maybe Arrow is the better show.'
Derek stared, unamused.
"Woah, you took out Captain Cold in a few seconds," Cisco exclaimed in his ear.
"Well…yeah. What's the difference between him and a regular crook with a similarly regular gun." Derek asked in a flat tone.
"Uh, a big difference. My cold gun."
Derek moved his lips to speak, but soon exhaled sharply as he decided against it, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Alright, who wants it next?"
Derek spoke, seeing the others take their eyes off Snart, glaring back at him.
Some were wary, but others, like Vandal Savage, simply grinned as he shot toward Derek.
'Perfect. I've been wanting to level up my Martial Arts skill.'
Vandal Savage.
Though not a Metahuman, he is an Immortal who has lived for thousands upon thousands of years.
He would soon also be responsible for destroying the world in season two of The Flash before Barry runs back in time and defeats him with the help of Oliver Queen.
'But that's a problem for the future.'
Derek bent his knees as he prepared to engage.
-SHING
Derek effortlessly dodged the dagger thrown at him, seeing Vandal appear before him, the latter pulling out a second knife from his trenchcoat.
'He fights like he has nothing to lose. Which I guess he doesn't.'
Vandal swung his knife, prompting Derek to pull back, dodging it. As well as dodging the sneaky knee Vandal shot out.
'What on earth…it's like he knows what I'm going to do before I do it.'
Vandal thought, seeing Derek dodge his next few attacks.
The youth would throw out his own, making it clear to someone like Vandal that he was nowhere near his level.
'Fine.'
Vadnal thought, moving in dangerously close.
With a slash that Derek would ultimately dodge once again, the youth was quick to notice Vandal stomp on his foot, preventing him from moving away.
-BANG
Derek suffered a heavy blow to the gut.
But Vandal showed more of a reaction as he frowned.
'What's he made of?'
He thought, unsure if it was the clothes or his body that felt like it was made from metal. Maybe both.
But Derek used this opportunity to grab the hairy man's collar.
'What? He didn't block it to get a hold of me?'
This simply filled Vandal with rage, knowing the boy completely disregarded his attack, as if to mock him.
But as he did, Derek pulled back his head.
-BANG!!!
Vandal suffered a headbutt straight to the centre of his face, a sickening CRACK ringing out as his nose appeared unnaturally flat.
'I didn't hold back. He's like a zombie.'
Derek thought, seeing the attack barely affect Vandal.
'He isn't as fast or as strong as me, but I bet his stamina is better. Where my stats are labelled "Superhuman" his are probably "Immortal" favouring his endurance stat above all else.'
In the next second, Derek let go, leaping backwards.
'Idiot.'
Cheetah and everyone else who knew anything about fighting thought, watching.
To them, he had the upper hand and only gave Vandal an opening by sheepishly retreating.
An opening Vandal fully intended to monopolise on, dashing forward as he closed the distance once again, his hand slipping into his trench coat.
However, as he did, his eyes widened and his fingers were met with nothing.
'Where have my knives…'
His thoughts were interrupted as he witnessed Derek reposition himself at an unknown time.
And more surprisingly…
-SHING
'My dagger…'
Vandal thought, seeing his dagger inches away from his skull to his right, flipping through the air as the blade turned to point to the side of his head.
At that moment, the realisation dawned on him.
'This slippery brat.'
The headbutt was only a distraction to steal.
A theft Vandal hadn't even noticed.
He was an immortal who'd interacted with thousands of magicians and thieves and even learned from some.
The boy then baited him in, tossing the dagger up.
"You…you were 3 steps ahead of me this whole time."
Vandal muttered, but loud enough for Derek to hear.
"Don't flatter yourself…It was actually 7 steps."
"You…"
Vandal's lips curled upward.
[Prestidigitation]
"I like you! I'll be back…"
-WHOOSH
-BANG
Derek swiftly raised his right leg opposite to the knife, spinning backwards so fast it generated an audible WHOOSH as his shoulder neared the ground, his heel slamming into the butt of the knife with a BANG, prompting it to shoot into the side of Vandal's skull.
Vandal dropped to his side, his eyes void as he ceased to move.
Everyone watched in astonishment, frozen like statues as they blinked, replaying what they'd just seen in their mind over and over as if they didn't believe it.
The reason they were so surprised was because they'd seen the madness Vandal was capable of in the short time he battled in this war.
But Derek stared at the screen that had appeared before him, making him smile.
[You have created a fighting technique that relies on deceit, illusions and quick thinking, combining it with your Martial Arts technique and superhuman body]
[As a result, your Martial Art has levelled up]
[Martial Arts Lvl. 2 -> Martial Arts Lvl. 4]
[You have passed what regular humans are capable of with such skills, entering the domain of those who have surpassed such limits.]
'It probably means figures like Oliver Queen and Ra's Al Ghul.'
"Derek…did you just kill him?" Cisco asked, doubting his eyes, bringing Derek back from deep thought.
"No…well, kinda. He doesn't die. He'll be back in…"
-RANG!!!
Derek's eyes shot wide open as a searing pain shot through his brain.
With both hands, he clutched his skull, his legs buckling as he grits his teeth.
"Derek, what's wrong?!" Caitlin yelled in concern but was given no reply.
But Derek knew what was going on, prompting him to turn as he stared at who was responsible for this.
'S-Shit…Grodd!'
He thought, seeing an enormous silverback Gorilla staring straight at him, an army of dead-eyed zombie-like Metas behind him.
Gorilla Grodd.
He was experimented on by STAR Labs until he was exposed to Dark Matter from the Particle Accelerator.
This resulted in an exponential growth in physical prowess, boosting his intelligence to that of a genius human.
Most importantly, he was given psychic powers, which was why Derek currently felt like he had a burning rod being driven through his brain and why he had an army of Metas following him.
If Derek could form a full thought at the moment, he'd realise Grodd was most likely the way Thawne planned to kill Barry's father.
After all, having been the one who raised him, Grodd saw Thawne as a father figure, his utmost loyalty lying with him.
Not that it mattered past the first season since they never interacted again.
-BANG
Derek's head flicked to the right as Cheetah suddenly appeared before him in a flash, landing a perfect kick to the side of his face.
"Let's see what you can do against someone faster than you."
Cheetah smirked, regaining her footing as he unleashed a flurry of blows at jaw-dropping speeds.
She would crack her knee into Derek's gut, preparing for her foe to curl forward, subsequently using this momentum against him as she landed an uppercut, sending the youth stumbling backwards.
"Something's wrong with him…" Cisco muttered, seeing Derek being pushed back.
Caitlin's previous smile faded quickly as she watched.
"Guys, I can't find my dad." Barry broke the silence, speeding around the ward where he knew his dad was being held.
Cisco tapped on his keyboard a few times, quick to reply.
"Barry, the CCPD have arrived with SWAT and are controlling the situation in a few of the wards furthest from you guys. Your dad might have already been picked up by them."
Barry was slightly relieved upon hearing this, but his anxiety returned at the next words spoken.
"You need to go back and help Derek, he's in trouble." Caitlin pulled the microphone closer, speaking.
Her eyes never left Derek who was still being pushed back by Cheetah.
It had gotten so bad that the others perhaps thought his previous performance was a fluke, some of them joining in.
The sand figure would surf on his sand, appearing behind Derek as he gathered his sand on his arm, striking the youth down into the ground.
As he struggled to get up, the female meta conjured her shadows, swallowing him as he was sent shooting out in the next second, slamming into the wall and cracking it.
Even though they were "Winning", they all had the same frown on their face.
'What the hell is he made of?'
They all thought.
Whether it was his clothes or his body, maybe even both, it felt like they were striking Iron, doing more damage to them than it seemingly did to him.
This all hurt Cheetah's pride upon realising she wasn't even able to hit a stationary target, prompting her to grit her teeth, leaping forward as her speed allowed her to cover the distance in a second.
Pulling back her hand, she brandished her claws, aiming for the only place she could visibly see skin.
His neck.
-CRACKLE
-WHOOSH
-BANG
Cheetah was sent skidding across the ground as Barry cracked his fist on the former's face.
"Hey, you alright? Caitlin, what's wrong with him?" Barry kneeled before Derek.
"I'm not sure. It might be one of the Metas' abilities."
Barry paused as he felt Derek grab his shoulder.
"The…Gorilla…take me to him…"
Barry was confused, seeing Derek seemingly writhing in pain.
Despite this, he looked around, quickly catching the large Gorilla.
He'd already seen it upon arriving so he remained calm.
"Quick!"
-CRACKLE
-WHOOSH
All eyes lost track of the two upon seeing the Flash speed off.
However, Grodd simply looked down, seeing the youth standing before him, biting his tongue as it bled while pulling back both arms.
'He bit his tongue to clear his mind…'
Cheetah and a few others watching the scene from the back noted.
Though they were correct, this moment of clarity would only last a second.
But for Derek, this was enough.
-BLOP
The Eclipse he'd been wearing for gloves separated from his hands, expanding in size till it formed a massive mallet, its sheer size rivalling that of Grodd, prompting the gorilla to widen his eyes.
"Fuck off!"
-BANG!!!
Derek swung the mallet with all his force, hitting Grodd with an ear-piercing BANG!
Blood escaped from Grodd's lips as his teeth cracked. His feet left the ground and in the next second, he was sent shooting through the air like a baseball.
The force easily sent him through the ceiling with another BOOM as everyone watched the Gorilla disappear into the distance.
"What the hell…" Barry muttered, watching with wide eyes, as were the others.
It wasn't long until Derek, dropped to one knee, breathing heavily as he exhaled sharply in relief.
'Fuck, I still have no resistance to mental-based attacks.'
He thought, the pain still lingering as he contemplated a way this wouldn't happen again.
-BLOP
The mallet reshaped itself, forming a dome around the two as Derek took in a deep breath.
"What are you doing?"
Barry turned to Derek, seeing the youth staring straight at him with bright emerald green eyes.
'I'm fixing you.'

'Do it!'
And just like that, things started to slow to a stop for Derek.
Not just what was before him.
No, suddenly, the entire earth stopped spinning.
