"Hey, what's going on out there? Why is there such a commotion?"
The door to private room V22 opened as the rest of the Manna team stepped out into the hallway, looking around with confusion.
Everyone's eyes landed on Rebecca, their expressions a mix of suspicion and curiosity.
It was clear that within the team, Rebecca's antics often made her the prime suspect in chaotic situations.
"It wasn't me!" Rebecca protested, pulling her drink straw out of her mouth and gesturing toward David, who stood nearby. "If you want to know what happened, ask him."
Although Rebecca had just witnessed the entire event, explaining it in detail wasn't her style. If anyone asked her for a play-by-play, she'd probably just shrug and say, "Beats me!"
The Manna team's sharp instincts kicked in immediately.
All at once, their gazes locked onto David, analyzing him from head to toe.
To Mann, Pyrrha, and the others, David appeared as a tall, thin Asian man with black hair, no weapons, and an unassuming demeanor.
Dorio noted his lack of muscle definition, dismissing him as having little to no physical threat.
For Kiwi and Sasha, their scans revealed that David was entirely organic—no cybernetic implants or prosthetics were visible. He was a proto-human, with no apparent enhancements.
Facing their scrutiny, David remained calm. He bowed slightly in greeting.
"Sorry for the disturbance," he said politely. "I'm David, a bartender here at the Afterlife. Someone was causing trouble, and I had to deal with it. My apologies if it disturbed your evening."
With that, he picked up the iron serving tray from the counter and turned toward the dance floor.
Despite the commotion he'd just caused, David carried himself with an air of ease.
As a bar employee, it was his job to keep things in order—even when things got messy.
In truth, David hadn't intended for things to escalate so dramatically. But if blame had to be placed, it was on the Scavenger and Beast Gang members who'd recklessly charged at him moments ago.
Oh, and maybe a little on the skinny scavenger with prosthetic eyes—his frailty hadn't helped matters.
Reflecting on the incident, David couldn't help but shake his head.
All he'd done was use the principle of magnetic force to his advantage. By activating his magnetic field ability, he'd subtly charged the prosthetics on both attackers with the same polarity.
Opposites attract, but like poles repel.
As the two men sprinted toward him—each using their prosthetic legs to enhance their speed—they unknowingly sealed their own fate.
The closer they got to one another, the stronger the repulsion between their charged prosthetics became.
When the repulsion reached a critical point, David applied a small boost to the magnetic force, amplifying it tenfold.
The result? Both men were flung backward with the force of cannonballs.
David sighed as he made his way to the dance floor, muttering under his breath.
"Scavengers and Beast Gang thugs—they really know how to make a scene," he grumbled.
The music on the dance floor had come to an abrupt stop, and a tense atmosphere hung in the air.
It was supposed to be a lively party, but now all eyes were on the aftermath of the chaos.
As David hurried off to deal with the fallout, the Manna team finally began processing what they'd just seen.
"Wait, Rebecca," Mann said, turning to her. "Are you saying that guy in the hallway caused all this?"
Rebecca took a slow sip of her drink before responding.
"You've got eyes, don't you? You saw it yourself," she replied nonchalantly.
The team exchanged skeptical glances.
"That doesn't make sense," Pyrrha muttered, adjusting his glasses. "The scans showed he's just a normal human."
"Yeah," Dorio added. "No weapons, no implants, no enhancements—he's completely unmodified."
"And his build isn't even that strong," Sasha chimed in. "There's no way someone like that could cause such a huge commotion."
Despite their disbelief, the evidence was undeniable. The two attackers had been thrown clear across the room, and the unassuming bartender was the only one left standing.
"Hey, what did he say his name was again?" Sasha asked suddenly, her brow furrowed in thought.
Everyone in the Manna team froze as realization began to dawn.
"He said his name was... David, right?"
Pyrrha's eyes widened in shock.
"Wait a minute! Are you telling me that guy is Lucy's new partner?!" he exclaimed.
"No way!" Kiwi blurted out, her disbelief evident. "He's just a regular guy! There's no way he's the one!"
The team fell silent, each member grappling with the implications of what they'd just witnessed.
