Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Goro Takemura
At the time Lena Fox had just joined the team, she held a deep-seated hatred for the Six Street Gang. For a while, she and Leon Black focused their efforts solely on dismantling their operations.
Ironically, the Six Street Gang didn't start off as villains. Founded by discharged veterans, disillusioned police officers, and old-school patriots, their mission was once noble: uphold justice in Night City. They revived military protocols, set patrol zones, trained in combat tactics, and drove out other gangs to restore order.
On the surface, they earned support from local communities by encouraging self-defense and purchasing old weapons from corporations. Behind the scenes, though, they trafficked arms, extorted civilians, and even partnered with nomads to hijack corporate transports.
The gang mostly stuck to their base in the Santo Domingo river valley. Though they had minor outposts elsewhere, they avoided getting involved in turf wars. Their low profile and willingness to buy outdated tech made them favorites with corporate consultants looking to unload surplus stock.
But eventually, they sought new profits. With more desperate dreamers flooding Night City, the demand for human trafficking and entertainment surged. The Six Street Gang tried to capitalize, launching a side business called the Red House—a vile operation focused on exploitation.
Their methods, however, were blunt. Unlike professional crime syndicates like the Tiger Claws, they relied solely on violence and intimidation. They had no grasp of psychological control, and their abuse yielded only short-term compliance.
Their downfall? Crossing Leon Black.
During a raid on a black-market cyberware clinic, Leon's team accidentally freed Nina and a group of medics who had been forced into working for the gang. Grateful, Nina promised to perform any surgery Leon needed, no questions asked.
With Nina onboard, Leon's team became even more fearless. Lena Fox, with her photographic memory and analytical mind, became the team's intelligence specialist. After intense training, she mastered hacking in just a month—progressing from turning on a computer to infiltrating corporate servers and stealing data undetected.
Of course, only Leon knew the full extent of her capabilities.
---
The surgery lasted until dawn.
Unlike ordinary people, modified individuals didn't require sleep in the conventional sense. Their cyberware needed maintenance more than rest. Still, Leon and Lena maintained the habit of shutting down their systems and resting naturally. The only oddity? They couldn't dream.
Lena was the first to awaken. She activated her cyberware in sequence, then sat up. Waking too quickly before full system boot could trigger glitches, so she moved with care.
Glancing at Leon still asleep beside her, she smiled faintly.
Her smile triggered the lab's automation: curtains slid open, sunlight streamed in, windows cracked to let in fresh air, and the temperature control system calibrated the environment. Quiet cleaning bots whirred to life, and a drone shot into the sky toward a food stall, returning shortly with breakfast clutched in its claws.
Streams of data scrolled across Lena's eyes as she filtered online news through preset keywords. One highlighted alert froze the stream.
Her eyes returned to normal, but a complicated expression crossed her face.
"What's wrong, Lena?" came Leon's soft voice as he stirred beside her.
"Leon... Saburo Arasaka is dead. Arasaka Corp's official site posted the obituary this morning."
Leon sat up, brushed her hair gently, and smiled. "Then let's eat and prepare for what's next."
Lena nodded. It was big news, but somehow… it felt distant.
Ding!
The operating room door slid open, and two doctors rushed out, their surgical gear half-removed.
"Leon! Is it true?!" Nina shouted, holding out her phone.
A major headline flashed on the screen: Arasaka Corporation to hold a memorial service for the late Saburo Arasaka, who was assassinated.
"Calm down, Nina," Leon said evenly. "First, tell me—how's the patient?"
"She's stable," Nina replied. "But the nerve damage is extensive. Recovery will take time. Just make sure she receives regular movement therapy and nutrition."
Viktor added, "She's lucky to be alive. Given the damage to her nervous and circulatory systems, she should've been a cyberpsycho by now."
Leon nodded. "Good. And yes, the news is true. I'd recommend stocking up on supplies. Night City's about to get messy."
The doctors left quickly after Leon finalized their payment. He watched them disappear down the corridor, then turned back to Lena.
"Let's eat."
"Mhm."
---
Arasaka Tower. Conference Room.
Arasaka Yorinobu glared across the room. "Takemura Goro! What is the meaning of this?"
Goro Takemura stood firm, clad in a black trench coat, pointing a gun directly at Yorinobu's chest.
"I want the truth."
As Saburo Arasaka's most loyal bodyguard, Goro found the official story laughable. Two thieves? Killing the most powerful man in Night City? Nonsense.
Yorinobu had been in the room that night. He was either a witness—or the real murderer.
"The truth," Yorinobu growled, "is that one of those two thieves murdered Father and fled."
"I don't believe that." Goro's voice trembled with anger. "There were no signs of struggle. He suffocated, didn't he? Why would a man like Saburo give up unless it was you?"
"You killed him, didn't you?!"
Yorinobu's denial faded into a chilling calm.
"Takemura," he said coldly, "you forget your place. Father is dead. I am now the head of Arasaka. You should pledge your loyalty to me... instead of chasing fairytales."
A smirk played across his lips.
"And even if you scream the truth to the skies, who will believe you? Besides... you won't live long enough to tell anyone."
BOOM!
The steel door exploded inward.
A colossal shadow entered the room, crackling with electricity. An alloy fist slammed into Goro's abdomen. Blood gushed from his mouth.
Adam Smasher.
The legendary cyborg enforcer stood over him, red ocular implants glowing like hellfire.
"You're the one who murdered him!" Goro coughed violently, glaring at Yorinobu.
Yorinobu remained silent, stepping back as Adam raised his fist again.
Goro rolled left, narrowly avoiding the blow. With a roar, he charged—not at Adam, but straight toward Yorinobu.
If he was going to die, he'd take the traitor with him.
But Adam was faster. Inhumanly so.
With a surge of power, Adam's leg servos launched him backward, intercepting Goro mid-sprint. His punch hit like a missile.
Goro switched tactics instantly. He leapt backward, toward the floor-to-ceiling windows. Survival was his only hope now. If he lived, he could expose the truth.
But Adam's cybernetic brain had already analyzed his move. In less than a second, it predicted the escape route and responded.
Adam appeared in the air above Goro like a vengeful god.
BOOM!
Goro was sent flying through the window, plummeting from the tower. Glass shattered. Blood trailed behind him like a crimson comet.
Down below, cars were crushed on impact. Pedestrians were knocked off their feet by the shockwave.
Then—another impact. Adam Smasher landed heavily, scanning the scene.
But the target was gone.
Only a large pool of blood remained.
"He escaped," Adam muttered into his earpiece.
Yorinobu, watching from the rooftop, frowned. "Issue the kill order."
---
Minutes later, every major network aired an urgent alert.
> BREAKING: Former Arasaka bodyguard Goro Takemura attempted to assassinate CEO Arasaka Yorinobu. A bounty of 1,000,000 credits is now offered for his elimination.
His photo and profile were plastered across the Net.
---
Back in the city, Leon Black was finishing his morning workout.
Sweat glistened on his cyber-enhanced body as he watched the bounty notification flash across his wristband.
"So… Takemura's going rogue."
He tightened his gloves, looked toward the sky, and smiled faintly.
"Interesting."
