Cyberpunk: The Ultimate Saga

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Threat

Heywood's underground boxing ring throbbed with noise. Spectators clutched their betting slips, shouting with every punch, completely immersed in the bloodied brawl unfolding in the ring. Every blow, every grunt, seemed to echo in their chests, as if they themselves were inside that pit of violence.

Amid the crowd, four figures moved forward, their presence like a quiet ripple through a storm. Although they drew some attention, most eyes remained glued to the fight. Still, the nearby bodyguards didn't miss the newcomers. Alert, they stepped forward to block their path.

"Who are you?" one asked in a low, cautious tone.

Leon Black didn't answer directly. Instead, he gave a simple nod and said, "Taylor."

At his cue, Mike Taylor calmly stepped forward, carrying a black bag. He opened it and dumped its contents onto the ground.

A severed human head rolled out, blood still fresh.

The bodyguards' eyes narrowed briefly, but quickly returned to their usual coldness. They had seen worse in this line of work.

Leon's gaze moved past them, landing on an old man lounging nearby in a guarded corner—the man known only as The Father.

"We're here to settle a debt," Leon said coolly. "And we have a few questions for the Father."

One of the guards quickly approached the old man and whispered in his ear. The Father waved them forward, signaling that they could approach.

The four men came to a halt, about two meters from him.

"You're here," the Father said, eyeing the fresh head on the floor. He raised a hand. Without a word, Ethan Cross stepped forward and collected a commission payment.

"Anything else?" the Father asked, voice calm but wary.

"Militech took one of our own," Leon said flatly. "You should know where they are."

The Father chuckled. "I'm just an old man. How could I possibly know the movements of Military Technology?"

"There are only two factions who knew about that man—Militech and us," Leon replied, voice steady. "And I know you're not with us."

The Father's eyes narrowed. He turned his gaze fully onto Leon for the first time—and shivered.

The young man's face blurred the longer he looked at it, like a mirage that refused to come into focus. A cold chill spread through his chest. He quickly looked away.

"You… you're the one who broke into Militech's database," he muttered.

Leon tilted his head slightly. "Oh? So you do know something. Impressive." Then, almost casually, he asked, "So… can you tell me where Stout is?"

Behind him, Ethan Cross and Arasaka Yuto exchanged stunned glances. Their captain infiltrated Militech's database?

That was insane.

Every major corporation guarded its databases like sacred temples. To even attempt access was suicide. And yet... Leon had done it?

No—maybe it wasn't Leon. Maybe it was Lena Fox who carried it out. But then, where was she now? Was she in hiding after being discovered?

The Father, for his part, looked increasingly uncomfortable.

"I really don't know where Stout is," he insisted. "Even if I have some connections, the movements of a senior Militech executive are beyond me."

Leon gave a faint smile. "Being a middleman isn't easy."

He took a small step forward, voice lowering. "If I'm not mistaken, the head we brought is from the Valentinos, right?"

He paused, giving the Father a moment to absorb the implications.

"What do you think your fellow gang leaders would say," he continued softly, "if they found out you were throwing your own people away like trash?"

The Father's smile faded.

"Accidents happen," he replied darkly. "It's a dangerous world."

Leon nodded slightly. "Sure it is."

Then, his tone shifted. "But I wonder… would Kang Tao appreciate it if they knew about your dealings with Militech?"

The effect was immediate. The Father's eyes sharpened, expression hardening into a scowl.

"What do you know?"

Leon shrugged. "Nothing. Just rumors."

"But people like you… middlemen... often try to play both sides. That's the problem with business—you think you're the dealer until you become the dealt."

It was a veiled threat, but a potent one. If word got out that the Father had even a hint of disloyalty toward Militech, or worse, was cooperating with a rival like Kang Tao, it would destroy him.

The underworld didn't tolerate fence-sitters.

The Father knew it too.

Leon leaned in, just enough to whisper in his ear. "What if you had leverage? On a Militech executive? Just imagine the value of that."

His tone was almost gentle, but the seed he planted was a bomb.

The Father's mind reeled. He said nothing, but Leon knew the thought had taken root.

After a moment, the Father said, "There's something happening in the Industrial Zone—underground tunnel, Sector One. You might want to look into it."

Leon smiled.

"You're a wise man. May Satan bless you."

With that, he turned and left with his team.

Once they were a distance away, Leon gave out assignments.

"Yuto, Ethan—you two check out that tunnel. See if you find anything useful. Taylor, get me some high-grade explosives. We'll regroup tomorrow at the Militech location."

As they split up, Leon stayed behind.

He had his own errand—to retrieve the Braindance chip he'd purchased earlier. There was something he needed to confirm.

Lighting a cigarette, he climbed into his Avenger vehicle and leaned back in the seat. His mind spun, sorting through possibilities.

He recalled the exact location they'd been given. Something clicked.

It matched a key storyline from one of his past game runs.

A Militech mission involving an experimental machine called the Flathead.

Depending on how it played out, Meredith Stout could live or die. But the real prize was the Flathead itself—black-tech hardware with unmatched infiltration capabilities.

Leon wasn't interested in the morality of the outcome. His goals were clearer.

Rescue Lily Cross.

Secure the Flathead.

And get out clean.

It would require more than firepower. It would need planning—precise execution.

He closed his eyes and began calculating.

Every variable. Every route. Every possibility.

And while his mind raced ahead, his Avenger drove silently toward Derek's residence, engine humming like a panther preparing to pounce.
