Chapter 22: Chapter 22 - Adaptation.
I placed the magic stone in my pocket and opened the system to check out the two abilities. The first one I examined was called "Resource Identification."
The name itself explains what the skill does.
[ Locates and identifies metals or precious stones. ]
I can locate metals using this skill. Now I ask myself... Can I find metals and precious stones inside the dungeon? I don't know. "But if the system granted me this skill after entering the dungeon, it must be usable here."
The second skill was even more intriguing.
[ Adaptation ]
[Create weapons using any material]
"This is a very useful skill. Especially now, when I don't have any weapons. But what material could I use to make a weapon under these circumstances?"
The only thing in sight was the light-blue walls surrounding me.
"Should I keep going? I've already received the bonus, so…"
But I wanted to test these new skills.
So, I decided to keep walking.
For several minutes, I didn't encounter any monsters, nor did I find any valuable materials using Resource Identification. However, I did get to test my Adaptation skill.
I picked up a large rock I found and activated the skill.
When I used it, the stone began to emit a faint, silvery glow.
Then, a system message appeared.
[ Would you like to use this object to create a weapon? ]
[ Options ]
[ Low-Grade Dagger ]
"Only one option." But it was enough. When I selected the Low-Grade Dagger, the rock began to transform in my hands slowly.
Its appearance changed, morphing into a dagger made entirely of stone.
I held it up and swung it.
"The weight feels good, but it doesn't seem very durable. Also, it doesn't look like it'll cut much." I tested the edge on my hand—it didn't cut. "It might not be great for cutting, but it's perfect for stabbing."
The tip was sharp and could easily be used to kill monsters.
"I wonder how durable it is."
####
I decided to find at least one more monster before leaving.
After a few minutes of searching, I came across another goblin that looked lost. "Just stabbing it in the head should be enough." I rushed toward the goblin quickly. Noticing my presence, it turned to face me.
It held a knife in its hand.
I glanced at the knife and furrowed my brow. But I didn't stop running. The goblin tried to strike, but I was faster. I stabbed the center of its forehead, producing a grotesque sound, and the goblin died instantly.
The goblin's body turned into particles of light, and a magic stone fell to the ground.
When I looked at the dagger, I noticed some cracks had formed on it.
"This durability is trash. Since it was made from a rock, I thought it'd last longer… Looks like it'll break after stabbing two more goblins."
I tossed the dagger aside and decided to leave the dungeon with two magic stones in my pocket.
"I guess it's pointless to visit the guild just to sell two stones."
I chose not to go to the guild. As soon as I left the tower, I headed to the Hephaestus Familia's shops. I wanted to see their shops. I don't remember much about it from the anime.
####
When I reached the 4th floor of the tower, I arrived at the Hephaestus Familia shops. I wandered through the corridors, where many stores had weapons on display. Some of the swords I saw left me speechless.
Even without much knowledge about swords, I could tell these blades were on another level.
I spent a long time walking between the 4th and 8th floors.
Members of the Familia who were there recognized me. Unlike what I had expected, they didn't look down on me or anything like that. Some even greeted me and treated me kindly.
Hephaestus told me there were people in the Familia who didn't hate me and were very kind. She wasn't wrong.
Honestly, I felt genuinely welcomed.
####
I left Babel Tower feeling even more motivated to continue my training. I can't wait to have my shop inside Babel Tower.
Feeling excited, I decided to head home.
However, someone approached from behind and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I didn't expect to see you here." It was a woman's voice. I turned around and saw a woman shorter than me. I looked down, and our eyes met.
Who? I wondered.
I didn't recognize this woman. Was she someone important to the story? Had I forgotten her?
"Don't tell me you've forgotten who I am. Did you lose your memory or something?"
I kept staring at the woman in front of me for a few seconds until I finally remembered her.
Isn't she the captain of the Familia? I think her name's Tsubaki... Brown skin, red eyes, an eyepatch, large breasts, and a friendly expression.
"Tsubaki?"
"You really did lose your memory, huh?"
"No, it's nothing like that. I'm fine."
"What are you doing here? You never leave home. Don't tell me you had a fight with the Goddess…"
"No, of course not. I was just walking around the city and decided to visit Babel. I wanted to check out the Familia's shops."
"Hmmm… So, what do you think? You've never been here before, have you?"
"It's incredible. I felt embarrassed just stepping into those stores. My swords are nowhere near that level. The Goddess praises me way too much."
"I've never seen a sword forged by you. How about showing me one? I got curious after hearing the Goddess talk about it."
"Alright, but don't expect anything amazing."
"Sure, let's go, let's go." Tsubaki pushed me forward, and I sighed.
"No need to rush."
