DanMachi: It's destined to lose its self.

Chapter 21: Collection of herbs (3).

Kopii slowly made his way back to his camp, ending his journey in a challenging and adventure-filled environment. The goblins were weak and not particularly skilled in combat, but they still managed to inflict some unpleasant blows. Kopii hadn't brought a healing potion and certainly regretted it at the first thought of his wounds. He examined his body; his wounds weren't serious, but still significant enough to think about. Kopii finally reached his camp, sighing with relief to have arrived at a safe place.

Kopii added firewood to the fire to make it burn brighter and was about to go to sleep, but he suddenly remembered that it wasn't safe. What if I fall asleep and the goblins come again? Then they'll just kill him, and that definitely can't be allowed. This thought haunted him. Kopii was not okay with this, and he decided how to avoid it, pondering possible options. Not coming up with anything better, he decided to sleep in a tree, which seemed like a pretty interesting and original solution.

Kopii found a suitable tree, tall enough and with strong, reliable branches. Climbing up it, he felt a little calmer and more confident. Curling up on one of the thick branches, Kopii tried to fall asleep, but anxiety didn't leave him, as if the shadow of the night wouldn't let him relax completely. What if he has a nightmare again? Oh well, he thought, closed his eyes, and tried to focus on the sounds of the forest. The rustling of leaves, the chirping of crickets - all this helped him to distract himself from disturbing thoughts, creating an atmosphere of unity with nature. Gradually, Kopii began to drift off to sleep.

At first, it was only short moments of oblivion, when he would twitch every now and then, afraid of falling. But fatigue took its toll, and soon he was fast asleep, wrapping his arms around the thick branch, as if it were the only thing that separated him from the abyss and the deep chasm.

Kopii greeted the morning with the first rays of the sun, breaking through the foliage and illuminating the surroundings with warmth. He woke up with a stiff neck and a feeling that his whole body was numb after a difficult night. Getting down from the tree turned out to be not as easy as climbing up at night in a semiconscious state. The branches treacherously slipped under his feet, and Kopii had to make considerable effort to safely reach the ground without falling.

The first thing he did was light a fire to warm up and prepare breakfast. Kopii's breakfast was a bird, which he carefully shot down to eat. "I need to finish gathering the grass today and go back to Orario," he thought to himself. Kopii looked at the map, where he had a little way to go to get to that place, and that gave him confidence. Kopii packed up camp and, taking a breath of the cold morning air, set off on his way.

Gathering his simple belongings, Kopii set off, covering every distance. He tried to walk quickly, but cautiously, carefully peering into every bush and listening to every rustle. Yesterday's encounter with the goblins made him wary, because no one knew what could happen suddenly. He needed to collect the remaining grass and return to Orario as soon as possible.

Along the way, he came across other monsters, but Kopii tried to avoid clashes, realizing that his strength was not limitless, and each battle took away his precious time and energy. He gathered the grass, putting it in a bag, and continued on his way, without losing vigilance and sharpness of perception.

By noon, Kopii reached the place marked on the map. It was a small clearing, densely overgrown with the grass he needed, and he gladly got to work. He began to collect it, trying not to miss a single stalk, because every find could be important. The work went quickly, and soon the bag was full, and Kopii breathed a sigh of relief. Now he could return to Orario with a good catch.

However, Kopii knew that the backpack would slow him down. He understood that it would take him longer to return to Orario, and he was already trying to avoid any battles so that they wouldn't delay him.

It's already getting dark, Kopii thought with slightly anxious thoughts. He decided not to go far and set up camp here in the clearing, because such an opportunity was safe enough. After setting up camp, Kopii began to eat dinner. The remains of the bird, fried over the fire, were not the most exquisite food, but quite satisfied his hunger. He sat by the fire, watching the dancing flames, and pondered the upcoming return to Orario. Thoughts of home warmed his soul and gave him strength.

The night passed quietly, and Kopii slept lightly, listening to every sound around. The experience of the previous night had taught him to be vigilant, and he was not going to take any risks. Fortunately, no uninvited guests appeared, and the morning greeted him with silence and tranquility, as if the whole world had frozen in anticipation.

After packing up camp, Kopii set off on the way back. The bag of grass noticeably pulled at his shoulders, but he tried not to pay attention to it, focusing on his goal. He knew that every step brought him closer to his cherished goal, and that was the main motivation. Along the way, he tried not to engage in battles with monsters, avoiding dangerous areas, as his intuition urged him to do.

Kopii looked at the map, he had a little way to go, but it was already dark, and he didn't have time to set up camp. Kopii wanted to climb a tree again, but the thunder in the distance stopped him.

What am I thinking, it will pass by? My assumptions were wrong. But Kopii didn't think about it, it happens to everyone, he's also human. So making a mistake is normal.

Kopii understood that the storm was approaching quickly, and looking for shelter in a tree was pointless, because he didn't have enough protection like that. He glanced around in search of at least some kind of canopy, but the clearing was an open area. He had to смириться with the inevitable, putting his fears aside. Kopii leaned against the nearest tree, hoping that it would at least protect him a little from the wind and rain.

Soon a real storm broke out. The wind bent the trees, the rain poured down like a bucket, and lightning illuminated the surroundings with bright flashes, acting as lighting masts for a spooky landscape. Kopii was soaked to the bone and shivering from the cold. He regretted that he hadn't brought a cloak with him, which could have helped him, but there was no time to pack. All that was left was to wait out the bad weather, hoping that it would end soon, if only the sky would clear.

The thunderstorm raged for several hours, and Kopii was completely frozen and tired of standing on his feet. He tried to sit down on the inhospitable ground several times, but the wet earth was not conducive to rest. Kopii decided not to stand idly by, and he headed to Orario with a firm step. If he can't rest, then why should he waste time? All of Kopii's clothes were wet, and his backpack was also wet, which slowed down his movement, and he definitely didn't expect that.

Kopii trudged through the downpour, each of his steps accompanied by the splashing of water in his boots, creating the effect that he was mired in a solemn state. Lightning tore through the sky, illuminating the forest ahead, like giant cracks in the black canvas of the night. The wind howled like a wounded beast, and Kopii felt the raindrops hitting his face, like thousands of tiny arrows bombarding him stubbornly. His hand gripped the hilt of his sword, Kopii was just paranoid, he knew it was the perfect time for attackers: you can't see anything, it's cold, and the sound is hidden by the rain and thunder.

The map got soaked from the rain, as if getting lost in the watery haze. Kopii threw away the map, he memorized the route to Orario, or he hopes so, but it didn't matter now. Here is the creature, it had to rain today, which created a strange feeling of destiny. Why am I so unlucky? Kopii trudged through the downpour, teeth clenched from the cold on his face. Water poured down his collar, ran down his back in icy streams, and it was extremely unpleasant. Suddenly he froze - there was movement in the gap between the trees. Not goblins…

He pressed against the trunk of an oak tree, his hand reaching for his sword, just in case. A figure in a wet cloak emerged from the thicket - not a monster, but a woman. Her silver hair, matted from the rain, almost glowed in the dark, adding to the mystery.

"Are you also running from the storm?" her voice sounded hoarse, like the rustling of wet leaves, and reminded him that even on such days there is a place for living creatures.

Kopii didn't relax for a moment. There are no chance encounters in the forest, and he knew that.

"Go your own way," he croaked, feeling a shiver running through his body, like a tree under attack by the wind.

Kopii didn't understand how he could be so unlucky that he ran into someone in the forest when he didn't need it at all. Kopii ran away from her without hesitation, without any doubts. Where did I sin that I'm so unlucky? The woman didn't expect such a reaction. She raised her eyebrows in surprise, but didn't chase after Kopii. She only followed him with a look full of bewilderment, as if looking for answers in his actions.

Kopii didn't see this. He ran, not making out the road, stumbling over tree roots and falling into puddles, as if his legs were rejecting him because of his perseverance. It seemed to him that the woman was chasing him, although there was no sound behind him.

Oh, finally Orario! Kopii saw the familiar city. But thoughts returned to that girl, if Orario was so close, then why? Maybe she's a traveler, or maybe she got lost? Whatever, not my problems, he decided, cutting off his own thoughts.

Kopii, staggering from fatigue and depression, entered the gates of Orario. The city, as always, was bustling with life, despite the late hour. Lanterns cast trembling shadows on the wet pavements, and drunken songs and laughter came from the taverns, creating an atmosphere of fun. Kopii felt like a stranger among this celebration of life, as if he was left out of this fascinating symphony. He wanted only one thing - to get to his room and collapse on the bed, forgetting about everything.
