DANMACHI: The Silence's Heir (OC x Freya)

Chapter 35: Chapter 35-A Hero's Curse!

Chapter 35

GODDESS HESTIA

Hestia had been amongst the first of the Goddess to get evacuated from the city. Bell-kun had carried her as the Demeter familia member led them to the massive shelter that had been built by their familia in secret, as she arrived there filled with questions.

As all the adventurers ran back to the city to help the people evacuate, she reached the top of the tower to get some answers.

"Demeter," she called out, and the said Goddess stood there and turned to face her.

"Hestia," she called out warmly.

"What is going on here?" she asked as the said Goddess's lips thinned.

"An exodus," she answered.

"And who asked you to prepare for such an exodus," she asked because that was the real question. Why was she so prepared for this? For an exodus?

How had she known?

"Because Freya asked me to prepare for one just in case," and she stilled as soon as she heard those words, but she had been expecting that answer.

It had all seemed a bit pre-planned to her eyes. And yet, despite her faults, she could not imagine Freya to be capable of slaughter. That bitch had her faults and issues but absolute slaughter.

Freya was not capable of that.

"She said that the city was his chains, and that she would free him of them one way or another," Demeter added as she shook her head.

"She will die! That idiot! She will die!" and with that, she turned around.

"I have to go and help her," she could ask Bell-kun to search for her.

"You are not going anywhere," suddenly, a voice interrupted her, and she turned around and saw Inumaki-kun land on the top of the tower.

"But there is barely any time left. Someone has to go and help he..." but she stopped as she saw his face.

"Because none of you can help her," and she was taken aback by his words as suddenly she remembered.

"Hera's curse," she gasped as she realized that unlike all of them, Freya could not leave the city. She was forbidden from it by Hera's curse.

"Then..."

"I need you to do something for me," he asked as he approached her, and turned his back to her.

"I need you to update my status," he said much to her surprise.

"For one last time," and as she heard those words, she understood his intentions.

"You plan to go back," she gasped as he nodded with thinned lips.

"I hate what she has done. I abhor it and want to let her suffer. But she is not evil. And that dragon, I alone am capable of facing it. To buy time for the adventurers to assemble and form a plan so they can finish the evacuations," and she understood his point.

"But you will die," she gasped as Inumaki-kun shrugged.

"Then so be it," and in the end, she bit her thumb and let the blood fall to his back, and saw his falna shift, and as she saw the numbers change she gasped in amazement.

"Impossible..." she gasped.

"A Rank up," just weeks after one, he was eligible for another rank up.

"I will be going now; the rest I leave in your hands..." and with that, she saw him jump away as he rushed towards Orario.

GODDESS FREYA

Freya sat there in the cathedral alone, and in pain as the city emptied out around her. She had been alone for quite sometime, ever since Inumaki-kun had broken out of her 'charm' and had run up this very tower, breaking her control over the entire city.

And as she had felt his power. Power so similar to her own, she had known that she had lost.

Pandemonium had broken out at his announcement and now the city was being emptied out. Thousands left through the gates, others jumped over the walls. Some even broke down some walls to carve out their own way as the adventurers showed their might.

In these times the announcement from Demter familia had come as a surprise. They were Orario's largest familia, and had announced that to prepare Orario for famine they had in store grain that would last the city a year.

Hence, allowing the people to leave in a hurry with little care for food and famine as they rushed towards her shelter and so forth.

The six spirits were all spread all over the town and even she did not know of their exact locations. And given that the spell chant had already started it was near impossible to stop them all in time.

Even though she knew that many would try. But in vain.

The end was coming. And as she sat there she felt the minutes tick by, until but a little over fine minutes remained until Orario's reckoning when suddenly the church filled up once more.

"What are you doing here?" she asked as she looked up and saw her children standing there, all of them looking towards her.

"We are here for you, my lady," Heidin, her vice captain spoke up.

"You need to leave, evacuate as well. Allen shall carry you. I have a place prepared for us deep in the elf forest we will be safe there," he added as she smiled.

"I betrayed you. All of you," she added with a broken sniffle.

"Why do you care what becomes of me?" and all of them had suffered in one way or another at the hands of Evilus and yet she had betrayed their trust. Betrayed them as she chose to join hands with that evil thing for her own selfish reasons.

"You are our Goddess. Of course we care!" Allen Fomel spoke up, in indignation as he stepped forward.

"We do not have much time. We need to leave," he spoke but she shook her head as she rose up, and activated her powers once more in a last act of redemption in a way.

"Go. Leave the city. Help Demeter," she ordered, and all of them followed her command. All of them except one. Her captain. Ottar, she had long become immune to her charm, not that she ever needed to use it upon him.

And of all of her children, only he knew the truth. Knew that she was incapable of leaving the city because of Hera's curse.

"You should leave as well, Ottar," she requested and saw him hesitate.

"Please, protect them. Protect them all from my mistake," she asked him as a tear slid down her face. He nodded with balled fists as he turned around and followed after the rest of her children. She sighed in relief and turned to the half-broken clock on the wall and saw that only a minute remained.

She began to walk out of the church, and as she did, she walked onto empty streets and abandoned houses. The city was empty, all of it.

"A shame that the people got out," another voice from behind cut in and she did not need to look back to know just who it was.

"Dinoysus, I had thought you would have left by now," she asked, surprised that the damned God had chosen to stay behind.

"This is my life's work. How could I leave without witnessing this!" he added, and she raised a brow as she turned around and looked at him.

"What became of dear Hestia?" she asked, for despite her annoyance, she was fond of her and did not wish to see her harmed.

"I let her go as you ordered. Her little rabbit came and picked her up. She should she safe by now," he answered as Freya sighed in relief as she turned towards the Great Tower of Babel, as suddenly a massive bell rung over.

"It is time...."

BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOOM! BOOM! BOOOM!

And in an instant six pillars rose into the skies from corners of the city. Six pillars of blinding light that cut through the gathering night evening clouds and lit up the skies once more.

And then a magical sequence appeared right above the city skies, as Freya could do little else than watch and feel in awe as the power of the Spirits erupted over the city.

And then, as a single light descended down the magical sequence into the ground below, she felt it.

The ground shook as an ominous power filled the air.

"It is here," Dinoysus gasped, and then the ground tore up from the center of the city, and Freya watched in awe as a massive beast rose into the air from the very grounds of Orario, taking to the skies with its massive wings.

ROARRR!

Its roar held enough power to decimate buildings she could do little else but watch as a massive shadow spread over the city as the dragon of calamity appeared over the city.

"It is finally here. Nidhogg!" Dinoysus gasped as she felt that beast's attention turn towards her, as it sensed her Godly presence.

And she did not move. She did not run. For she knew it was all futile.

And so, as the beast roared and opened its maw, preparing to attack her, she just stood there and closed her eyes as she readied herself for her demise.

"Goodbye. Inumaki-kun," she whispered as the beast roared, and a massive ball of energy rushed straight towards her, decimating everything in its path.

BOOOOM!

BOOOOOM!

"RHO AIAS!" and she stilled as she heard that voice and opened her eyes in awe as a massive shield appeared infront of her, blocking the dragon's attack, before suddenly a sole figure jumped right infront of her.

His grey hair danced in the air as he put forward his hand, and the air rippled in front of her as his shield blocked the attack.

"What are you doing here!" she gasped, in rage and in worry as she saw him scream as the shield began to crack, and yet he did not back down, even as his feet dug into the ground.

"AGHHH!"

"What are you doing here, Inumaki-kun!"

BOOOM!

Soon enough, an explosion rocked the ground, and she felt the ground beneath her feet vanish as a pair of arms wrapped under her and took her into the air. They landed on a rooftop as the dragon of calamity roared in frustration at seeing its prey get away.

"I am here to defeat that thing," he answered as he set her down Freya watched him turn away as he stood face to face with that massive beast, with nothing but his spear.

"You will die! Just run away, Inumaki-kun! Just go!" she screamed, she pleaded,

But he turned his head to look at her, and gave her a small smile.

"I am afraid I cannot do that. After all, this is the only way I can save you," and those words stilled her as she saw another attack rushing towards them.

"O Mother," she heard him chant as a massive purplish hue spread all around his body.

"Give me strength!"

"LIMIT BREAK!"

BOOOOM!
