DanMachi: Ultimate Lich King

Chapter 102: DULK: Chapter 102

Compared to the Holy Grail, a wish-granting omnipotence, the Servant summoning method and magic circle seemed incredibly simple.

But this was normal; the summoning wasn't fueled by the mage's power, but the Grail's. The Master served as a link between the Servant and this world, providing the mana for their materialization.

"I declare!

You shall be under my command, and I entrust my fate to your sword.

Answer the Grail's call, if you obey this decree and the laws of heaven!"

Chanting the incantation, Arthas felt this world's power and will for the first time. It was drastically different from Orario's.

If Orario's adventurers' power was joyful and hopeful, this world's power felt sorrowful and painful.

Orario's power was a divine gift; here, it was obtained by mortals breaking taboos.

Using this power demanded a corresponding commitment!

Arthas's face contorted; the magical energy coursing through him was inescapable—the chill and pain of magical circuits activating.

Arthas gritted his teeth, continuing the incantation.

"I swear. I shall be a force for good in this world, and destroy all evil."

Arthas's vision darkened.

A sharp pain shot through his hand; the indistinct Command Seals on his hand began to change.

A six-pointed star formed, twisting and coiling like a serpent, with bloody wings sprouting from its sides.

Arthas seemed to hear the sound of wind chimes and a girl's laughter.

Was the summoning successful? Arthas didn't know; he continued the incantation like a mindless machine.

"Be careful."

Strange images flashed; Arthas seemed to see a majestic golden figure speaking these words.

Unable to dwell on this, Arthas gritted his teeth and chanted the final part.

"With these three words, I bind you, guardian of the scales, from the wheel of restraint!"

With this, Arthas felt the magical energy in his body reach its peak.

Lightning flashed, thunder roared, winds howled. In the overwhelming wind pressure, the summoning circle shone brilliantly.

What… was summoned?

Illya's eyes widened; the magic circle connected to an otherworldly realm… from the dazzling light, a crimson figure appeared.

Their wish had been granted.

From afar, to this place, a whirlwind and lightning enveloped a legendary phantom.

Human, yet beyond humanity. Elevated to a spirit by inhuman power. A gathering of extraordinary beings… from a throne of suppressed divine power, the summoned spirits, the dreams of countless people, descended upon the earth.

Then…

"This… is my Servant?"

Arthas was bewildered, looking at the small girl sitting on the altar, swinging her legs.

"Yes… I think so."

Illya, now a mother of two, nodded, equally surprised.

The summoned Servant was the girl before them; she looked about the same age as Sakura and Illya. She played with the staff Arthas had used for the summoning.

Noticing their gaze, the girl smiled mischievously.

"You're the Master?"

"Yes… I am…"

Arthas replied instinctively, feeling the pain in his hand; a connection formed with the girl.

She was indeed his Servant; the Command Seals didn't lie.

"Let's go play, Fran."

As Arthas stared at his hand, the girl said this, leaping from the altar.

"Eh…"

Illya gasped; Arthas caught the girl.

Though she was his Servant, her similar size to Sakura and Illya tugged at Arthas and Illya's hearts.

She seemed like a child.

"Fran isn't fragile, Master. No need to be so nervous."

Though she said this, she enjoyed Arthas's instinctive embrace, closing her eyes happily.

"Fran… is that your name?"

"Yes… Flandre Scarlet, second in line to the Scarlet family. I've arrived as a Berserker; our contract is established."

Flandre leaped from Arthas's arms, curtsied politely.

"Eh… you're a Berserker? That's impossible?"

Illya stared at Flandre; Berserkers were powerful but lacked intellect, mindlessly attacking.

They were prone to losing control; Command Seals were needed to suppress their rage.

Berserkers could be invincible, but if mishandled, they'd backfire.

But Flandre was clearly intelligent and articulate; how could she be a Berserker?
