Chapter 97: DULK: Chapter 97
Jubstacheit's fall wasn't the only one; Tokiomi Tohsaka hadn't expected the Matou family's decline.
Tokiomi Tohsaka, head of the Tohsaka family, sighed.
Of the three founding families, only he remembered their noble ideals, their pursuit of the Root. The Einzbern and Matou families, once kindred spirits, had lost their way, forgetting their original purpose. The five Masters recruited from outside sought only shallow desires.
Fortunately, he had a participant from the Church, his disciple, Kirei Kotomine. This Grail War would be easy.
Tokiomi Tohsaka was arrogant; he'd single-handedly revitalized the Tohsaka family, silently bearing the hardships, transforming them into self-respect.
He was proud and strong-willed.
Even the deadly Holy Grail War was insignificant; victory was assured.
But first, he had to deal with his two daughters.
Only one could inherit the mage's crest; the Tohsaka family could only have one head; one daughter would become an ordinary person.
This was the best-case scenario; sibling rivalry for the head's position wasn't uncommon.
For mages, family and friendship were jokes; they pursued the pinnacle of magic. As Tohsaka children, this was their fate.
But Tokiomi Tohsaka wasn't worried; Matou Kariya had asked to adopt a child as Matou's heir.
Tokiomi Tohsaka knew of the Matou family's current state. Their heirs lacked magical talent; their Grail War participant, like Einzbern's, was an outsider.
Tokiomi Tohsaka had heard of the Matou's outsider, Kiritsugu Emiya, but dismissed him; he wasn't a true mage; Tohsaka felt sorrow at the Matou's decline.
Einzbern's son-in-law was reportedly a powerful, legitimate mage, far superior to the underhanded mage killer.
Tokiomi Tohsaka had hesitated when Kariya offered to adopt one of his daughters; the Matou family was no longer what it once was.
But the Matou family was a former founding family, a long-time ally; letting their magic die out was painful.
Tokiomi Tohsaka was also struggling with the choice of heir among his daughters, so he agreed to Kariya's proposal.
A sunny afternoon in Fuyuki City's park; children played on the grassy lawn; parents watched them smile. The fountain square was a popular place for families to relax.
Arthas had been in Fuyuki City for about a month; after receiving the Command Seals, he'd learned about the city.
He planned to return to Einzbern; though only a month apart, he missed Illya and Illya.
Before leaving, Arthas considered visiting the Matou and Tohsaka families.
Learning about potential opponents or paying a friendly visit as an ally seemed necessary.
As he thought this, he heard a commotion and faint magical energy nearby.
Oh… mages, here?
Arthas was curious and turned. By a tree, an elegantly dressed man in a red coat spoke with a thin, short old man.
Under the tree sat a sad woman holding two crying girls.
Arthas wasn't initially concerned, but he noticed the crimson Command Seals on the man in red.
This mage was a Grail War participant! He needed to investigate.
Arthas approached; Tokiomi Tohsaka and Kariya had just finished their conversation.
"Come, Sakura, to Grandfather. You're a Matou now."
The withered old man smiled, beckoning Sakura, who clung to her mother; even the mother trembled; Sakura was terrified.
"No… no… Daddy, I don't want to go."
"Be good, Sakura… this is for your benefit. Grandfather Matou is a powerful mage; Matou magic is strong. Going to his family is a good thing."
"No… I don't want to leave my sister and mother."
"Be obedient!"
Tokiomi Tohsaka, embarrassed, pulled Sakura's wrist, intending to give her to Kariya.
Arthas arrived, hearing the conversation; he frowned deeply at the scene.
As a father of a girl, Tokiomi Tohsaka's actions were despicable; regardless of the reason, giving away his daughter was monstrous.
