Chapter 26: 25. Unexpected Care
In the early hours of the morning, he woke up to a faint light spreading into the room. As Tom slowly opened his eyes in bed, he noticed the daylight seeping in through the window. The light filtering in from the edge of the window filled the room with a soft glow.
As the daylight gradually illuminated every detail in the room, the room was slowly waking up from its slumber. Shadows on the walls began to play with the light falling on the window sill. Tom, looking out the window, watched the sunrise. The orange and pink tones slowly appearing on the horizon heralded the beginning of a new day.
The light filtering into the room created a sense of peace and tranquility inside. Tom didn't feel like getting out of bed; he just wanted to enjoy this quiet moment.
Tom was lying down with his eyes half open and coughed harshly. He was sure he was sick. Tom could use magic to alleviate his illness, but magic only reduced the pain. Healing magic would fix injuries. Tom needed to drink a potion to get better, but he didn't have the ingredients to make one.
Tom was lying in bed semi-conscious. Coughing and sneezing could be heard intermittently in the room.
When Tom heard the doorbell, he opened his eyes. After struggling a bit to get out of bed, he went to the wardrobe and put on black sweatpants and a black T-shirt. Tom, who came out of the bedroom with heavy steps, went downstairs. The doorbell rang again. As Tom walked towards the door, he grabbed his wand with his right hand. There wouldn't be many visitors, but if the person who came intended to harm him, he had to protect himself. Tom wasn't a man to underestimate his enemy.
When Tom opened the door, he saw a short girl in front of him. Actually, the person he was looking at was Alice.
"Hello, I came to see if you're okay. You got pretty wet yesterday, and I was worried."
Tom couldn't help but smile involuntarily.
"I'm quite alright, nothing to worry about."
Alice had come because she had seen that Tom would be sick. Tom looked healthy. If Alice hadn't seen the future, she would have believed what Tom said.
Alice put her hand on Tom's forehead. It took some effort because Tom was taller than Alice.
When Tom saw Alice trying to put her hand on his forehead, his tension increased, but he didn't stop her. Alice's cold hand was touching Tom's forehead. As Alice struggled to put her hand on Tom's forehead, she had come very close to him, and their bodies were touching each other.
Alice felt sorry for thinking that Tom got sick because of her.
Tom understood what Alice was thinking. Of course, he wasn't reading her mind. Because Alice didn't want her mind to be read. Alice didn't feel in danger when she was with him.
Tom held Alice's small cold hand on his forehead as if to warm it up. His eyes were locked with Alice's. For a brief moment, his eyes involuntarily glanced at Alice's lips, but he quickly looked back into her eyes.
Tom thought this girl had cast a spell on him. It must be a spell that clouds the mind.
"I just have a slight fever, that's all."
They were very close to each other. Alice looked at Tom's hand holding hers. Tom's scent and warmth made her feel comfortable. Alice realized that she hadn't said anything for a long time and that she needed to say something.
"I don't want to work you while you're sick because of me. Please, let's just sit down."
Tom knew she was a vampire, but he wasn't going to the kitchen to offer her something. He was afraid that if he tried to offer her something, Alice might think badly of him.
Tom smiled and returned to sit on the couch.
Alice turned to Tom and frowned as she started to speak. "You're sick, and if you don't take care of yourself, you won't get better."
No one had ever treated Tom like this before; he hadn't even received attention from caregivers in the orphanage. Tom didn't know what to say in this situation. He just looked.
Alice looked at his bewildered state and smiled. It was a sad smile. She could guess some things. Alice couldn't decide what Tom was going to say. Alice intervened again. "It's wrong to sit like this; you need to rest to get better."
"I haven't-" Tom started to speak, but Alice interrupted him.
