DC: Becoming Doomsday in Marvel Universe

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Iron Man

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that at this very moment, the Ten Rings were committing their atrocities in full view of the world.

Fully armed, they stormed a quiet, impoverished village and rounded up every man, woman, and child, forcing them at gunpoint into the village square.

Their intentions were obvious.

The war correspondents on-site tried to shout them down, but what could journalists do? Even with basic protective gear, they were no match for the Ten Rings.

The only reason the Ten Rings hadn't turned their guns on the reporters was because they wanted the publicity, or perhaps because they hesitated at the thought of killing citizens from a certain powerful nation, knowing there were military forces nearby that could retaliate.

But they had no such qualms about the villagers.

They herded them like livestock, none able to escape, none daring to resist. These villagers were just ordinary people, unarmed, helpless.

Surrounded by gunmen aiming their weapons at them, they awaited tragedy.

Then, at the critical moment, a figure streaked through the sky. A suit of metal in red and gold came hurtling toward them.

Iron Man had arrived.

With a boom, Tony landed in the middle of the village square, striking the classic superhero pose and sending a powerful shockwave through the area.

The Iron Man suit might have looked like a normal humanoid figure, not particularly massive. But this was a suit of solid steel, and its weight was no joke.

No wonder it needed a nuclear battery to power it.

Tony's sudden arrival left everyone stunned. This figure, like something straight out of a sci-fi future, was beyond anything they'd ever seen.

All eyes were on him, their first glimpse of Iron Man.

Far away in a certain nation, Obadiah stood frozen before his TV screen, unable to sit. He stared, heart racing, at the armored figure on screen.

His excitement surged. He was sure of it—inside that suit was Tony Stark. And yet, Obadiah felt smug. To him, the suit looked flimsy. Its mass, its armor, its sheer power—none of it, he thought, could compare to his Iron Monger.

What if the Iron Monger had made this entrance?

Obadiah couldn't help comparing them and convinced himself that his creation would win hands down.

But for now, his Iron Monger was still a useless hunk of steel. His gaze locked onto the arc reactor in Iron Man's chest, aching for the day he could build one himself.

Back at the village, Tony didn't just stand there soaking in the spotlight.

He surveyed the scene.

Suddenly, gunfire erupted. The Ten Rings didn't wait, didn't bother with threats or speeches. They opened fire.

How rude—no monologue?

Tony didn't flinch. The bullets pinged harmlessly off his suit, sparks flying as his armor shrugged off the rounds.

Ordinary bullets weren't going to penetrate this armor.

"My turn," Tony said, no longer content to play defense. The suit's systems, now integrated with JARVIS, had already locked onto every hostile target.

His wrist-mounted weapons activated, unleashing precise bursts that took down the gunmen in a heartbeat. The area was cleared in an instant.

For a moment, no one moved. The villagers stared, dumbfounded. Even the reporters stood frozen, cameras fixed on Tony, unsure what to do, what to say.

Then a child, safe at last, burst into tears—and the spell broke. Families clutched each other, overwhelmed to have survived.

Who would have thought they'd be saved by this metal giant?

The reporters swarmed in, eager to question their mysterious savior. But Tony wasn't about to stick around. His mission wasn't finished.

He had more to do. The Ten Rings' bases had to be wiped out, especially those stockpiled with Stark Industries weapons.

Tony wasn't about to let those arms, some of which he'd designed, be used against him again.

And this was the perfect chance to show the world what the suit could do.

He rocketed skyward, confirming the coordinates JARVIS had locked down, and set off for a nearby cave.

It was supposed to have been his prison, but this was his first time seeing the place.

Before he even got close, enemy fire found him. An RPG blast sent him crashing down. Tanks in the area swiveled to aim at him.

This Ten Rings cell had tanks? How deep did their resources run?

But Tony wasn't rattled. This was his suit's trial by fire, and he'd come loaded for bear. Unsure of his combat potential, he'd equipped himself heavily.

From his wrist, he launched a volley of tiny missiles—thumb-sized, but more powerful than any RPG. They tore through tank armor like paper, leaving nothing but smoking wreckage.

The cave mouth was ringed with weapons caches. Tony's suit opened up, unleashing a hailstorm of micro-missiles. In seconds, the entire area became an inferno. Guns, ammo, rockets—all ignited in a spectacular blaze.

The fireworks show cost more than any real fireworks ever could.

And in the end, Tony saved a hostage too—a man named Yinsen. According to Tony's later account, this thin, scholarly-looking man had been making a desperate last stand when Tony arrived.

If Tony hadn't gotten there in time, if JARVIS hadn't detected him, Yinsen would have died.

That day, Tony Stark shone brighter than ever. No one yet knew that the man in the suit was Tony, but the world reported the incident nonstop.

And before long, someone gave the metal man a name.

Iron Man.
