Chapter 6: Chapter 5
Peter Parker sat on the edge of Johnny Storm's couch, carefully wrapping a bandage around his ribs. Every movement sent a sharp pain through his body—a painful reminder of last night's fight with Morbius.
Across the room, Johnny leaned against the wall, arms crossed, scowling at the torn-up Spider-Man suit sprawled over a chair.
"Who the hell messed up my suit?" Johnny grumbled. "I worked so hard to make that!"
Peter winced as he tightened the bandage, then looked up at his best friend. "Vampire."
Johnny blinked. "Seriously?"
Peter nodded.
For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Johnny exhaled and shook his head. "Why not vampires? What's next? Human goblins? A talking lizard? A guy with robot arms like an octopus? Or maybe a giant human rhino?"
Peter groaned and held up a hand. "Dude, stop jinxing me. I know I'm gonna have to fight those guys if the author keeps writing this story."
Johnny furrowed his brow. "What?"
Peter rubbed his temple. "I got hit in the head too hard. Ignore me." He sat back with a sigh. "Point is, I can't let Morbius keep running around draining people."
Johnny nodded. "Okay, so what do we know about vampire weaknesses?"
Peter frowned, thinking. "Wooden stakes, sunlight, fire, decapitation… Oh, and Christian symbols."
They exchanged a look.
Johnny sighed. "We are both broke as hell. Where are we gonna get holy weapons?"
Peter suddenly remembered something—or rather, someone. "Wait… does Catholic count?"
Johnny tilted his head, considering. "I don't know. But I think I know who you're talking about."
Before they could continue, the sound of a police radio crackled to life, announcing a high-speed chase in progress.
Peter sighed, standing up. "I'll be back. Meet you at school."
Johnny saluted as Peter pulled his mask back on, swung open the window, and leapt into the city night.
Midtown High
The next morning, Peter and Johnny strolled through the crowded hallways of Midtown High, their conversation shifting to Blue Lock.
"I don't think the animation's that bad," Johnny said with a shrug.
Peter turned to him with an expression of pure betrayal. "It's worse than Seven Deadly Sins Season 3, and that was garbage."
Before Johnny could argue, their attention was drawn to a couple kissing by the lockers.
Johnny groaned. "God, I need a girlfriend."
Peter smirked. "What happened with Sarah?"
Johnny immediately looked away. "She… uh… cheated on me. With Chris."
Peter raised an eyebrow. "Chris? The nerd?"
Johnny nodded. "Apparently, he's got a big weapon, if you know what I mean."
Peter cringed. "Oof. Sorry, man. You'll find the right one someday."
Before Johnny could respond, a loud commotion erupted from down the hall. Students crowded around, forming a circle as shouts and gasps filled the air.
Peter and Johnny pushed their way through the crowd—and found themselves staring at a brutal beatdown in progress.
A girl with jet-black hair, dressed entirely in black, was wrecking one of the football players. The guy barely got a chance to swing before she dodged, countered, and slammed him into the lockers with a force that made Peter wince.
Peter tapped a nearby student. "What happened?"
The student leaned in. "Dude slapped her butt. She started kicking his ass."
Peter nodded, impressed. The fight ended with the football player groaning on the floor as the girl dusted herself off and walked right past them, barely acknowledging the chaos she left behind.
Johnny and Peter turned to watch her go.
"Well, that was… something," Peter muttered. "Who is she?"
A student nearby answered, "Jessica Jones."
Peter turned to Johnny—only to find his best friend frozen, eyes locked on Jessica like she was the only person in the world.
"Uh… Johnny?"
Johnny grabbed Peter by the shoulders, eyes wide. "Dude. I think I'm in love."
Peter patted his shoulder. "Good luck, buddy."
Nelson & Murdock
After school, Peter and Johnny walked through the busy streets of New York, Johnny talking way too much about how "badass" Jessica Jones was.
Eventually, they stopped in front of a brick building with an old, faded sign that read:
NELSON & MURDOCK
Johnny knocked, and after a few moments, the door creaked open. A tall man with red-tinted glasses and a cane stood in the doorway.
"Johnny. Peter," Matt Murdock greeted, a knowing smirk on his face. "What's up?"
Peter shifted awkwardly. "Uh… we need your help, Matt."
Matt stepped aside, letting them into his office.
The room smelled like old books and coffee. Matt gestured for them to sit as he leaned against his desk.
"So," he said, "what's this about?"
Peter and Johnny exchanged glances.
Johnny cleared his throat. "We're, uh… working on a school project about vampires."
Peter nodded. "Yep. Totally. School project."
Matt's smirk deepened. "Uh-huh. And let me guess—you need to know what works best against them?"
Peter leaned forward. "Exactly."
Matt tapped his fingers on the desk, pretending to think. "Holy water would work best."
Johnny frowned. "Where do we even get that?"
Without a word, Matt got up, walked to a nearby closet, and pulled out a small glass bottle filled with clear liquid. He tossed it to Johnny, who caught it.
"That was weirdly easy," Johnny muttered.
"Perks of knowing a guy," Matt said.
Peter and Johnny stood, ready to leave.
But as they reached the door, Matt casually added, "Good luck with the vampire, Spider-Man."
Peter froze.
Slowly, he turned back around, eyes wide beneath the mask. "W-what?"
Matt simply smirked. "You're not the only vigilante in this city, kid."
For a moment, Peter was speechless.
Then, a slow grin spread across his face.
"Noted."
And with that, he and Johnny walked out, the hunt for Morbius truly beginning.
Chapter Ends.
