Chapter 29: Chapter 29

[1st POV]

She was no longer dressed in her tight schoolgirl swimsuit but was wearing a white medical coat, and her hair was short.

She just needed glasses to complete the look.

"You're wake? That's good. I won't have to inject you with a bunch of stimulants."

"Why did I pass out? What happened?"

I asked her, but I already knew the answer.

"Unfortunately, I can't answer that question because I don't know. You suddenly started bleeding from your nose in the forest and lost consciousness. I brought you here and checked, but I found no abnormalities."

"And may I ask what kind of place this is?"

"My secret laboratory."

"Oh right, you were apparently a scientist once..."

"I still am. It's just that I have to fund my research through robbery."

"I see."

"And now,"

She pulled one of the chairs closer and sat down, crossing her legs... and she wasn't wearing any underwear.

"You will answer my questions. First, who are you?"

"Um. Isaac Dinklage, Gotham City police officer, twenty-three years old, unmarried..."

"Not that nonsense. I already learned that without you..."

'Where did that knowledge come from?'

"What I'm interested in is why you survived my kiss. Everyone I kiss dies from internal frostbite. They turn into icicles."

"Well, to be honest, I really don't know what you're talking about. I'm just an ordinary guy. The fact that I survived that is probably just luck."

"I don't believe in luck or coincidences. I'm a scientist. I only believe in facts. I checked your body while you were unconscious, took some tests, and… they showed nothing. You're no different from an ordinary person in this world. Nothing, and that's strange. I even specifically tested you for magical abilities. However, your body didn't respond to a certain curious artifact that could determine that. You're a puzzle to me."

"Well, I think every man should be a little mysterious to appeal to a beautiful girl. I see I've succeeded. Now I have the chance to talk to you more calmly instead of with an icicle at my throat."

"You think being tied to a bed and next to a psychopath who could kill you at any moment is a more calmly setting?"

"Well, yeah. I don't really think you want to kill me that badly and you can't really call yourself a psychopath."

"Hmm. And why can't I be called a psychopath?"

"You're a broken person."

Killer Frost's eyes widened, but she didn't say anything as I continued.

"You see yourself as a monster. You hate yourself for something. I'm more than sure that the police don't know your whole story and why you've become who you are now. However, I know one thing for sure, it's not about the abilities you have. In fact, it complicates your situation in socializing and separates you even more from ordinary life. You wouldn't be different from any other woman in Gotham if that part of you were taken away. You have your fears, hatred, and desires, and you can't escape them. They haunt you and won't let you rest. You run from them, but you can't get away. They always follow you and always catch up, causing even more suffering… You have a personality disorder. As you know, it's a specific mental state where a person significantly differs from the average person in terms of how they think, perceive, feel, and relate to others..."

"Does that mean I'm crazy after all?"

She smiled but was forced, "Do you think I don't know? I'm fully aware of my state. But I have no intention of discussing it with anyone. Just because you've become Ivy's personal psychologist and a call boy doesn't mean you can lecture to me!"

"I'm not lecturing to you. I'm just saying that I understand you, because..."

Bang!

The entrance door to the room burst just as I was about to begin round two of processing Killer Frost.

I was hit by pieces of the wall, but luckily, it didn't hurt me too badly.

However, Killer Frost was pinned under debris or the door—it's hard to tell in all this dust.

"Hee-hee-hee… how interesting…"

'Oh, come on! That voice?'

"Hi there, Isaac!"

The Joker exclaimed cheerfully.

"J-Joker? How did you get here? What are you doing?"

I asked him.

"What do you mean, what? I'm here to save you, of course!"

He began cutting the straps that bound me.

Meanwhile, I was experiencing cognitive dissonance.

I was being rescued not by Batman and his crew, the police, Argus, Superman, Flash, or anyone else from the 'supers'.

Instead, it was someone I was supposed to lock away.

The logic of this world amazes me even more.

I'm at a loss for words.

Now I'm free, while Killer Frost has already regained her senses and is looking at the Joker with wide, terrified eyes as he aims at her.

"It's time to have a little fun shooting at the snow woman, hee-hee-hee…"

"Stop, Joker!"

I shouted, and fortunately, he listened to me.

"What?!"

"Don't kill her. She needs to stay alive."

"Why?"

He scratched the barrel against his temple, "She tried to kill you. Besides, I don't like her because it's too cold for my humor. Boring."

He aimed the gun at her again.

"I'll explain, just not here. It's important!"

Joker looked at me, then at Frost, with his piercing gaze before holstering his weapon.

"Alright, besides, I need to talk to you anyway. Let's go. Doggie's probably been waiting for me for an hour. I had to run around this base to find the right room…"

"Ding!"

After that, I followed the Joker.

I hope Batman doesn't find out about this. Otherwise, I can expect a thorough brain check and, at worst, a one-way ticket to Arkham.

...

Somewhere unknown.

The God of Games nervously watched his assistant, who was currently typing furiously at the computer.

"Well? Are we ready yet?"

"No!"

"How about now?"

"No!"

After a minute passed.

"What about now?"

"NO! Damn it. I'm trying to fix what you and I have messed up, and you're getting in my way. It turns out that we won't be able to correct everything that happened after the glitch, and here you are, nagging me."

"he barely got anything... or rather, he will in the future."

"Yeah. We can fix almost everything except for four key moments in the multiverse. The first two occurrences—missions—are quite unusual in terms of their entertainment value. However, the last two can't be changed at all, and each one is worse than the last. Just think about it, he'll soon have to face that whole gang of villains. And then the last one..."

The boy shuddered again as he glanced at the screen, "...this "mission" will change him and I don't even know in what direction. There are 63 possible outcomes after it, and most of them depress me. Those bonuses he got, and his brains will turn him into an overpowered character."

"Why worry so much?"

God of Games waved his hands.

"I'll definitely come up with something. I am the God of Games, I designed the entire system."

"But you're not the one feeding it with divine energy. That's Death, Fortune, and Yahweh."

"Sigh! Fine. Let's work on this. I think I'll go consider how to help the player… Just think, I'm a God! And helping a mere human… what a disgrace. And what would my mom say? I don't help other players like this…"

To be continued…
