Chapter 34: Chapter 34
[1st POV]
It was much easier than I thought it would be dealing with Pamela.
As soon as I met her, I had to explain the situation with Deathstroke and my sudden assignment.
Surprisingly, she just smiled and nodded without a hint of offense.
I even talked to her about her safety, suggesting she call my colleagues if anything happened.
Pamela's response reassured me and made me a bit wary, "I watched a few of those anime you mentioned, and now I know what tentacles are. It's quite amusing. If Deathstroke dares show up, I'll greet him and help him appreciate the beauty of a love for nature."
To prove her point, the flowers on our windowsill transformed into small vines, then…
Brrr.
It's disgusting to even think about.
After that, I almost felt sorry for Deathstroke, or at least I would have if he had actually decided to pay me another visit.
The anger I had toward him also faded.
Imagine a world-class mercenary, taking down nations, fighting the Justice League, fighting metahumans, capable of defeating anyone… and then this happens, stripping him of his… ahem, dignity.
Just as I was leaving the room, I happened to glimpse a couple of rather… interesting contents sticking out of her bag.
It's yaoi!
That's when I realized I might have created a monster even scarier than Poison Ivy herself.
...
I headed to the airport with Renee, who was already waiting for me. She was dressed in a black dress—not too revealing but far from modest.
I couldn't help but stare a little.
Hopefully, Pamela won't take castrate if she finds out I'm working with her.
The fact that Montoya is Latina, Catholic, and, according to canon, a lesbian.
She was even paired with Batwoman—Kathy Kane, a redheaded woman.
It's quite an interesting combination.
Still, who knows? Maybe I can, uh, shift her perspective?
"Ready? Got everything you need?"
She asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Yes, everything's good."
"How's the house? And Pamela?"
"The contractors are already working, and Pam will keep an eye on things. She'll be around Gotham for a while, so I'm hoping we can get everything quickly and efficiently."
"I hope so."
She nodded, and we made our way to the terminal.
I prepared for the eight-hour flight and focused on training on the plane. I was working the chakra through my body, strengthening my muscles and eyes.
I wasn't about to unlock the Sharingan or Byakugan, let alone the Rinnegan, but I could still improve my reflexes and visual sense this way.
At the same time, I slipped some small pieces of paper under my shirt.
By channeling chakra, I practiced moving them around my body with a subtle exercise in control and precision.
After arriving in Los Angeles, I'd already gained two levels in "Chakra Manipulation" and six in Chakra Control, along with an extra ten in Chakra.
We arrived at the airport and found two of our fellow police officers waiting for us.
One was a short, blue-eyed blonde woman in a business suit, looking to be around thirty or so. The other was a man a little older than her, tall, with dark hair and a well-built, athletic shape.
As I approached them, I used "Observation" and couldn't believe my eyes.

Damn!
I should have guessed—or rather, remembered—that a certain someone like Lucifer Morningstar lives here.
I totally forgot about him with all the business with Bats, Joker, and Deathstroke.
I don't even know whether to be excited or terrified about the chance to meet the famous "retired devil," or maybe I won't even have to deal with him.
"Welcome, detectives."
Chloe Decker spoke up.
"I'm Detective Chloe Decker, and this is Detective Dan Espinoza. We've been assigned to assist you with the smuggling case."
"Detective Renee Montoya."
Renee introduced herself briefly.
"Detective Isaac Dinklage. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is ours. It's not often we get to see fellow officers from Gotham."
Detective Espinoza smiled.
"It's been pretty heated over there lately..."
"That's putting it lightly."
"Yeah, I've heard about your crazy criminals and those meta-humans terrorizing your city. Now, you've also lost your coworkers in another city. My condolences."
"Thank you, Detective Espinoza."
Renee said.
Detective Decker broke the awkward pause.
"Please, follow us. We'll take you to our department and hand over all the necessary information on the case your colleagues were investigating, as well as details on their deaths."
After a lot of chatting with the women in the car, we finally arrived at the police station and were greeted by someone I had partially hoped not to meet.
"Detective!"
A dark-haired man in his thirties, dressed in a suit, practically ran up to us.
"Where did you go without me? We're partners and why do you have Detective Douche with you? Is he trying to tell you something about... Oh, unfamiliar faces. Allow me to introduce myself, Detective Lucifer Morningstar."
He immediately grabbed Renee's hand in greeting and kissed it.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. It's not often you see such beautiful strangers around here. Have we met before? Your face seems so familiar, but I wouldn't forget someone as charming as you."
"Uh... My name is Renee Montoya, Detective Renee Montoya."
Renee managed to say that it was freezing in place.
Immediately, Chloe Decker tugged at Lucifer's arm and pulled him away from us.
"He's not a detective. Just a civilian specialist, and yes, unfortunately, he's my permanent partner."
Officer Decker said resignedly.
"I understand."
Renee replied in the same tone, and for some reason, she looked at me.
"Hey! Why do I feel like I'm being compared to someone?"
I protested.
"Correct."
Lucifer jumped in.
"He and I exist on different planes of being. I am perfection itself. Well, unless you count my father, but honestly, I wouldn't call him perfection. The thing is, my father…"
"Lucifer!"
"I think I forgot to introduce myself, Isaac Dinklage, also a detective."
"Nice to meet you."
He said, shaking my hand.
Lucifer's face changed for a moment, and his eyes became a little worried and confused, but he quickly regained his composure.
"Did you perhaps work for my father before?"
"If your father isn't the president of the United States, a Marine Corps general, or Commissioner Gordon, then no."
Lucifer fell silent but continued to smile sweetly while Chloe Decker led us to her captain to present and hand over the necessary papers.
Meanwhile, Lucifer was burning me with his gaze.
He probably thinks I'm an angel or something. He probably still doesn't know who Chloe really is—or maybe he does.
I don't know the series' timeline very well, and it's been a while since I watched it.
After an hour of flipping through reports, I left Renee alone in our assigned office and went outside.
I did it deliberately so that Lucifer could see me.
Since a meeting with him was inevitable, and he seemed to understand that I wasn't just an average person, I figured we'd have a conversation.
To be continued...
