Demon King of Time in Marvel

Chapter 13: The Time Stone Test

Chapter 13: The Time Stone Test

Ohma surveyed the training room. It was a vast, open space, its walls shifting and changing like the rest of the Keep, currently resembling a futuristic gymnasium with holographic training dummies and energy grids flickering across the floor. He'd already spent a few days in the library, absorbing as much information as he could about temporal mechanics, energy manipulation, and various other skills he felt he needed to hone. Temporal Manipulation for Dummies was surprisingly helpful. Though, I think I'm past the dummy part.

He held up his hand, focusing his temporal energy. A small sphere of shimmering light appeared, hovering in his palm. He concentrated, trying to accelerate the sphere's rotation, to speed up time within its confines. The sphere began to spin faster and faster, blurring into a white orb. He then tried to reverse the process, slowing the sphere's rotation until it was almost frozen in time.

Not bad. But I need more control. He dissipated the sphere, the energy fading into the air. He needed to be able to manipulate time on a much larger scale, to affect not just small objects, but entire areas, perhaps even entire timelines.

He moved to the center of the room, activating one of the holographic training dummies. It materialized as a humanoid figure, armed with energy weapons. The dummy began firing, bolts of energy streaking towards Ohma.

He activated [Bullet Time], slowing his perception of time. The energy bolts seemed to crawl through the air, giving him ample time to dodge and weave. He moved with a speed that defied normal human limitations, his movements fluid and precise.

This is child's play. He deactivated [Bullet Time], deciding to increase the difficulty. He willed the Keep to create more dummies, each with different weapons and fighting styles.

Soon, the room was filled with holographic figures, firing lasers, throwing energy blasts, and engaging him in hand-to-hand combat.

Ohma fought with a ferocity he hadn't known he possessed. He used his temporal powers to his advantage, briefly accelerating his own movements, creating afterimages, and even briefly rewinding small moments to correct mistakes. He was learning, adapting, pushing his powers to their limits.

Hours blurred into days, and days into what felt like weeks. The Keep, in its own way, became his training partner, constantly adjusting the training scenarios, providing him with new challenges and pushing him to improve.

He had been able to refine his combat skills by incorporating his temporal abilities, leading to a new type of style he called Chronokinetic Combat. His attacks would appear extremely fast while causing the victim to be slowed down. He even began experimenting with layering different temporal effects, creating brief pockets of accelerated time around his fists as he struck, maximizing the impact.

He practiced controlling his temporal energy, learning to create larger and more complex temporal distortions. He studied the research papers he had gathered from the library, delving into the intricacies of spacetime and quantum mechanics.

He even started experimenting with his energy manipulation, learning to absorb and redirect energy blasts, creating shields of pure energy, and even generating his own energy attacks.

The 'You Too Can Fly' book proved less helpful than he'd hoped. Apparently, wings were a prerequisite, not just willpower. Though, coating myself in temporal energy work well enough.

While practicing energy manipulation, Devon accidentally discovered a new ability. He was channeling a burst of energy when he felt a strange tug, a momentary distortion, and suddenly he was behind a training dummy. It felt like a slip through time, not traditional teleportation—there was a slight echo, a flicker in the air where he had been, as if time itself was catching up. He called it [Blink].

Experimenting further, he learned to control it, though initially his jumps were erratic, phasing through walls or landing short of his target. He visualized his destination, focused his energy, and blinked—the world dissolving for a fraction of a second before reforming around him. He practiced dodging energy blasts and repositioning himself in combat with Blink, though its current range was limited to five meters.

Finally, he felt ready. He still had a lot to learn. From what he could gather Devon had divided his time manipulation in six stages:

Basic, Advanced, Expert, Transcendent, Universal and Multiversal level.

It was based on several criteria, including reach and the complexity of his abilities. He theorized that he had mastered the Advanced level and was beginning to explore the Expert level.

Devon had been training non-stop after knowing he was in the marvel universe. With his current training complete, he went back to the throne room, sitting on the golden Throne of Epoch.

He wanted to test something, so he quickly browsed through various timelines reaching one where everything had decayed. A zombie universe, Perfect.

Devon started to make preparations to jump to the new universe. This time he double checked his calculation. I won't end up in the depths of the ocean or somewhere equally unpleasant.

The Keep glowed for a minute before stabilizing, hinting at their arrival. Devon opened the gates and went out of the Keep.

The atmosphere of this universe was badly polluted. Buildings were decimated, cars thrown around and there was a strange rotten smell in the air. Ugh, what is this bad smell?

Not taking any chances, Devon immediately transformed into his Ohma Zi-O form. He closed his eyes, using his enhanced senses to locate the object that would have brought him here - The Eye of Agamotto. Finding it, he swiftly ascended to the sky and flew towards its direction, his flight path leaving sonic booms that crumpled the dilapidated buildings.

He soon reached Times square, landing on a corner rooftop. He surveyed the area, pinpointing the zombified Stephen Strange. He jumped down, his landing created a shockwave, mainly because he didn't bother with the infamous superhero landing.

Sensing new prey, the zombies swarmed him, but Ohma moved in a blur, reaching the zombified Strange. He needed the Time Stone. The easiest way to acquire it was when it was unguarded.

He snatched the Eye of Agamotto from the Doctor's neck, but the horde had started clawing at his armor, which remained in pristine condition.

Ohma decided to end their suffering, as a reward for their unwitting assistance. Ohma brought his hand up and punched. The force of the blow sent shockwaves rippling through the air, shattering windows and crumbling the facades of nearby buildings. Even holding back, the power was immense. The zombies closest to the impact were vaporized, leaving only scorched outlines on the ground.

Ohma ascended to a suitable height and unleashed his ultimate attack:

[Hour of Demise]

Ohma moved, getting into the stance for his signature kick.

[Overlord's Decimation]

The impact sent shockwaves rippling outwards, devastating the city and sending debris flying. The tremors could be felt hundreds of kilometers away.

With peace and quiet returned to his surroundings, Ohma took out the time stone from the Eye of Agamotto.

To wield an infinity stone required strength, a requirement Ohma had already surpassed. Not to mention that it was Time stone, and his temporal abilities ensured he would be able to wield it. There was just one problem: the Infinity Stones were unusable outside their native universes. Which meant no travelling to different timeline, or taking this one home.

He tried using it, finding that he was easily able to. The time stone, as if sentient, attached itself to the chest of Ohma Zi-O's armor.

Ohma used its power to check the anomaly with the white crystal, trying to find its origin but came up short. He then tried finding more about the broken time, but all he could infer was that he could go in there to restore them. Of course, it won't tell me how.

He also tried finding more about Kang or the TVA, but the stone fell short, as those were outside of time. So much for untold power. It hasn't shown me anything that would be worth the trip…yet.

He tried again, this time simulating a certain scenario, and was surprised at the outcome. It's possible, I would have to do some work for it though.

Since learning he was in the Marvel Universe, Devon had been pondering the nature of reality in these kinds of worlds. Here, abstract concepts took on physical forms. Infinity was represented by Space, and Time by Eternity.

With so much damage to time, why hadn't Eternity done anything yet? He didn't really think he would get an answer, mainly because the stone would not snitch on its 'boss'. But he was surprised yet again when he received an answer.

The Time stone projected a vision into his mind, a scene of cosmic desolation. A vast empty space where a colossal figure, radiating power and light, laid still and lifeless. Eternity was dead.

[ Afterwards in the Zombie Universe]

A lone, ragged figure pushes aside a piece of rubble, revealing a glimpse of twisted metal and sparking wires. He spoke in a mixture of fear and hope.

"No… no way. Whole blocks… just gone. Like a god… or a demon… had just… snapped his fingers. But… underneath …that's where they made it. The virus… the serum… the thing that turned us… into them. It was here. And now… now maybe… just maybe… it's over"
