Demon Slayer: Strength Gained with Every Swing of the Sword

Chapter 83: Chapter 84: Welcome Back, Hakuji

Just the name "Koyuki" triggered a flood of memories, long buried in his mind.

The once blurry face now appeared with crystal clarity.

"Master... Koyuki..."

Slap!

Akaza collapsed onto the ground, his eyes wide in confusion.

Scenes from his life as a human flashed before him.

From stealing medicine to save his father, to being taken in by Master Keizo, and eventually meeting the most important person in his life—

Koyuki!

Though Akaza's life had been tragic, he had encountered his happiness—Keizo and Koyuki.

Keizo changed his fate, preventing him from falling deeper into despair.

It was also Keizo who taught him the art of the Suliu Fist, giving him exceptional martial skills.

And it was Keizo who helped him find the greatest happiness of his life.

Akaza vaguely remembered how he had first seen Koyuki—her gentle demeanor, her cautiousness.

Back then, he thought his life could only be lived as a sinner, doomed to a tragic end. But that girl was like a ray of light in the darkness—so bright, so warm.

When he learned that the girl loved him, a sinner, he was shaken. He began to dream of shedding his sinful identity and living a simple life with her.

Her name was Koyuki, a fragile girl, but also a strong one. She loved watching fireworks, and he had taken her to see the sky lit up by them.

It was beneath those fireworks that he confessed his love for her. And from that moment, he swore to protect Keizo and Koyuki—even if it meant sacrificing his life.

But happiness was fleeting. It was so brief that Akaza couldn't believe his tragic fate still awaited him.

When he returned after visiting his father's grave and found both Keizo and Koyuki already dead, he knew there was nothing left in this world worth living for.

He killed everyone who had murdered Keizo and Koyuki, then buried their bodies with his own hands.

In despair, he no longer knew the meaning of his own existence.

Eventually, he encountered Muzan Kibutsuji...

Muzan defeated him, forcing him to become a demon.

Over time, Akaza lost all memory and was consumed by a single obsession: to become stronger. He took the name Akaza.

Tears streamed down Akaza's face as he pounded the ground in agony. He had forgotten the original purpose of the Suliu Fist—it was meant to save, to protect, not to kill!

At that moment, he was no longer Akaza. In his eyes, his hands were stained with blood and the vengeful souls of the fallen.

He realized what he truly wanted to destroy was not the world, but himself—the man who had failed to keep his promises to his father and lover, and had sullied the Suliu Fist, once used for protection, with blood.

Akaza let out a bitter laugh.

Suddenly—

He froze.

Because he felt a familiar presence behind him.

Tears flowed freely from his eyes.

"Is it you? Koyuki?"

He turned around and saw her, the girl he had longed for, gazing at him gently. She softly cupped his face with her hands.

And slowly kissed him.

"Welcome back, my husband."

Tears streamed down Koyuki's face, as if she felt great sorrow for Akaza.

"Koyuki... my wife... I'm sorry!"

Akaza cried, reaching out desperately to hold her, but his hands couldn't touch her.

"Only now, in this moment, do I recognize the true you, Hakuji. You've been forgiven. Now, carry on the legacy of the Suliu Fist!"

Master Keizo's figure appeared by Akaza's side, nodding with approval.

"Master Keizo!"

Akaza fell to the ground, frantically prostrating himself.

Blood began to flow from his forehead as he refused to use his demon healing abilities, letting the wound grow larger.

"Are you here to take me with you?"

Akaza asked through tears.

In that moment, he felt as if he had returned to the days at the Suliu Fist dojo. The darkness in his heart was finally dissipating.

"I'm coming to join you now," he whispered, smiling through his tears.

Snowflake-like runes appeared on the ground.

"Destruction Kill—Chaotic Style!"

Akaza quickly formed a fist with both hands, aiming to strike his own head.

But suddenly—

His hands froze in mid-air, and a look of pain spread across his face.

"Akaza, without my permission, you dare to end your life?"

"Don't be fooled by so-called emotions. Go kill that Demon Slayer! Hurry!"

Muzan Kibutsuji's voice echoed in his mind like a cursed sound. Akaza's memories began to blur once more.

It was clear that Muzan was sealing his memories again.

"No!"

Akaza shouted.

From a distance, Feng Yu had been watching, unable to stay still any longer. Through the transparent world, he saw Akaza, Koyuki, Keizo, and Muzan!

Akaza's soul was tainted by blood-red mist, and his eyes grew cold.

"Muzan, I won't let you win!"

Feng Yu's Onikiri sword turned blood red.

"Breathing in Full Concentration—Breath of Light, Fifth Form, Flash of Light!"

A beam of light flashed, and dust flew up. Akaza's head was severed once again by Feng Yu's sword, falling to the ground.

The blood-red mist that had polluted Akaza's soul began to fade, and Koyuki's spirit rushed toward him, embracing his soul.

"Don't... Akaza... don't turn back into that... Don't kill anymore..."

Koyuki clung tightly to Akaza's spirit, comforting him.

"Koyuki... Koyuki..."

Akaza murmured, lost.

"Wake up, Hakuji! You're not Akaza, you're Hakuji!"

Master Keizo's spirit shouted, and a wooden stick appeared in his hand, striking Akaza's soul.

Akaza's eyes slowly began to clear.

"I... I've been controlled by Muzan again..." Akaza spoke in pain.

"Feng Yu... please, kill me..."

Akaza turned to Feng Yu.

"My sword can no longer kill you. We must wait for the sun to rise."

Feng Yu shook his head, then an idea suddenly struck him.

"Akaza, do you want to atone for your sins? Help me kill Muzan, and save more lives!"

Feng Yu asked, offering him a choice.

But Akaza shook his head, refusing.

"No. If I live, Muzan will control me again. I just want to be with Koyuki in the afterlife..."

"That's not the problem. I know a way to free you from Muzan's control!"

Feng Yu quickly explained.

Akaza's strength was immense, possibly even greater than the Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. If he could be swayed to fight for their side, it might bring great victory.

Feng Yu didn't want Akaza to die in vain.

"What method?" Akaza asked.

"Do you know of Tsuyako?"

"That woman..."

Akaza recalled a demon named Tsuyako...

"Are you saying she can help me escape Muzan's control?"

Akaza asked.

"Yes, she can!"

Although Feng Yu's confirmation gave him hope, Akaza's face remained neutral. He turned toward Koyuki, smiling.

"Koyuki... I may need a little more time before I can join you in the afterlife..."

"It's okay, Akaza. Do it for me. Help them."

Koyuki smiled at Akaza.

"I will always be by your side."

She embraced him tightly.

"I promise, Feng Yu."
