Demon Slayer: The Tenth Hashira with Dōjutsu

Chapter 59: DSWS: Chapter 59

"Butterfly Mansion, Hashira Meeting"

In the Butterfly Mansion's hospital ward, all the high-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps, including Kagaya Ubuyashiki and the Nine Hashira, gathered around Aoki's bed.

"Wow, he's really badly hurt! No way," Mitsuri Kanroji exclaimed, covering her mouth in surprise.

"What a mess. But surviving is a miracle. With injuries like that, most would be dead. Not at all glamorous,"

Tengen Uzui said in his typically arrogant tone. However, beneath his bravado, he was genuinely shocked by Aoki's condition, his criticism masking his underlying concern for his fellow Hashira.

A cold glance from Shinobu Kocho silenced him.

Himejima Gyomei, his hands clasped around his prayer beads, wept. "So pitiful… injured like this… it would have been better if he hadn't been born. He wouldn't have to suffer."

"Shouldn't we focus on something more important?" Obanai Iguro said, his white snake coiled around his neck.

"The fact that Rengoku and Aoki, working together, couldn't defeat Upper Moon Three, only managing to force a retreat, is far more concerning."

"None of us have ever encountered an Upper Moon before, so we lacked understanding. We assumed they were only slightly stronger than the Lower Moons.

Clearly, we were wrong. Upper Moons are far more formidable than we imagined."

"Upper Moon Three alone defeated two Hashira. How strong are Upper Moons Two and One, and Muzan Kibutsuji?"

"I admit, seeing Aoki like this is unsettling. He's a comrade… though we weren't close. But shouldn't we prioritize strategies for dealing with the demons? Isn't that the more pressing issue?"

Obanai Iguro was right. Before this, they hadn't encountered any Upper Moons, let alone Muzan Kibutsuji.

Their understanding of demons was severely limited. Aoki's near-fatal injuries highlighted the urgent need to develop effective countermeasures against the demons.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Giyu Tomioka's voice was sharp and annoyed. "We just leave him here?

He's a comrade! We can discuss strategies here! Demons are nothing! I'll kill as many as come!"

Obanai Iguro started to retort, but Kagaya Ubuyashiki interrupted.

"Tomioka is right. We can discuss strategies here. Aoki is our comrade, no, our family. We can't abandon him.

But since Aoki is unconscious, Rengoku will explain the details of the battle."

Rengoku Kyōjurō stepped forward, his voice booming.

"Good! I'll explain the situation!"

Shinobu Kocho subtly gestured for him to lower his voice, which he did.

"We killed Lower Moon One on the Mugen Train. Before we could rest, an explosion signaled the arrival of Upper Moon Three."

"He was incredibly strong. Even Aoki-san and I couldn't defeat him. Due to exhaustion, we were at a disadvantage. Aoki used black flames, forcing Upper Moon Three to sever his own arm, giving us a brief opening."

"But we didn't capitalize on it. Aoki only managed to pierce Upper Moon Three with his broken Nichirin Sword, failing to decapitate him.

He was then severely injured by a single punch. Upper Moon Three retreated due to the rising sun. That's my report."

Obanai Iguro played with his snake. "So, Aoki's injuries are his own fault for missing the opportunity. He should have killed him."

Tengen Uzui immediately nodded in agreement. Aoki had the chance to kill Upper Moon Three but missed it, resulting in his severe injuries.

Giyu Tomioka clenched his jaw, his usual sardonic remarks absent. He lacked the energy for mockery; he just wanted to unleash his fury on some demons.

Mitsuri Kanroji covered her mouth. "That's not entirely fair. Aoki wouldn't make such a basic mistake. He probably had no better option than to pierce Upper Moon Three."

Muichiro Tokito, Giyu Tomioka, and Shinobu Kocho remained silent, their thoughts unreadable.

"Regardless of the circumstances, Aoki's condition is concerning. Rengoku, is there anything else you need to report about the mission?" Kagaya Ubuyashiki asked gently.

"Yes, Master. You only asked about the Upper Moon, so I didn't mention it," Rengoku Kyōjurō said. "I also have something to say about Tanjiro Kamado's sister."

Giyu Tomioka and the others perked up; their previous opposition to Nezuko's acceptance into the Corps remained.

"On the Mugen Train, Tanjiro's sister showed no intention of harming humans. While we were asleep, she used her blood to wake us and protected an entire car of passengers. She showed no aggression towards humans. I approve of her!"

This wasn't entirely satisfying to Giyu Tomioka and the others, but they'd secretly hoped for this outcome.

A Nezuko who wouldn't attack humans posed no threat to the Corps. She could also be a valuable subject for research into turning demons back into humans.

Despite their reservations about her demonic nature, the benefits outweighed the risks.
