Demon Slayer:Multiverse crossover

Chapter 56: Chapter 56: Finals of the Competition!

On the morning of the final match, Mochizuki awoke groggily. Despite her unwavering belief that James would win yesterday's match, she had still prayed fervently for his safety.

It's always better to be prepared!

She got up, washed her face, changed her clothes, tied on her apron, and headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the James household.

After mixing the sandwich ingredients and placing them between two slices of bread, she neatly wrapped up two delicious sandwiches. Then, she pulled out two eggs from the fridge to fry and warmed up some fresh milk on the stove.

Once everything was ready, Mochizuki untied her apron and walked upstairs to wake James.

She slipped into his room, quietly opened the drawer, and took out his phone. As usual, she checked his chat history.

No suspicious girls! All clear!

Satisfied, she gently shook James awake with both hands.

"Brother, wake up. Breakfast is ready."

James opened his eyes sleepily, greeted by Mochizuki's face hovering close to his own.

Ever since returning to the main world, he had been relaxing too much—sleeping in every day.

This isn't good. I need to regain my sharpness. Especially if I return to the Demon Slayer world again.

So… just five more minutes.

He closed his eyes again.

"Brother, today is the final match. If you don't get up now, you'll be late…"

"If you don't get up, you won't get breakfast, hmmph!"

That threat worked like magic—James sat up instantly, practically launching out of bed.

After coaxing the slightly sulky Mochizuki back to her usual cheerful self, he went to wash up and change.

This kind of daily routine had become normal in the James household. Nothing seemed out of place.

But in contrast, over at the Shinomiya family estate, things were very different.

Inside the spacious training hall, two figures sat across from one another, their postures straight and focused. They were none other than Shinomiya Saki and her instructor, Shinomiya Ayano.

"Saki, have you memorized our counter-strategy?"

"Yes, Sensei. I understand."

"Repeat it."

"Avoid direct confrontation. Lure him into using that technique early. Once his sword breaks, I'll counterattack."

"Exactly. If our theory is correct, then that sword technique requires an incredibly advanced level of swordsmanship. He likely can't use it more than once. Once the sword is damaged, he'll lose his greatest advantage. Without it, he's just prey."

Ayano continued breaking down the battle plan—how to maintain spiritual energy, when to deploy her traps, and how to keep the pressure on James.

"Saki," she added, "the family no longer demands you to take first place. But I hope you can."

Ayano was known for her strength. A second-level powerhouse, she held great influence in the family. However, she dedicated herself entirely to training the younger generation. Thanks to her efforts, the Shinomiya clan's new generation far surpassed the other families.

Her white hair was tied loosely, resting on her right shoulder, revealing the fair curve of her neck.

Saki nodded and replied softly, "Yes."

Outside, the sky was gradually lighting up. Sunlight streamed through the windows into the dojo.

"Go. Your father and I will be there to watch."

Saki pursed her lips and stood. "Yes, Sensei."

———

Although there was still half an hour before the match's 10:00 AM start time, Hall 10 was already packed. Every seat was filled, and some spectators even sat on the stairs and steps. The air buzzed with excited chatter.

Inside the arena, the giant platform was spotless and solid, without any obstructing stone walls. It was a massive square stage, spacious enough for two people to move freely.

At each corner of the platform, powerful psychics—some even second-level powerhouses—were setting up formidable isolation barriers to contain the battle.

Compared to earlier rounds, this final match included special guest areas for members of the four major families and dozens of elite extraordinary clans.

"There are so many people!" Shido Kazumitsu sighed. Though he had lost in the quarterfinals, he'd placed fifth overall in the ranking competition.

His family had practically thrown a celebration at home. His parents were ecstatic and even considered hanging a banner. His younger brother now looked at him with shining admiration.

"Good thing we got here early. Otherwise, we wouldn't have found seats," one of the boys muttered.

The group of boys had arrived over an hour ago and secured their seats just in time.

The teachers had already taken their designated seats on the podium—except for one vacant spot left deliberately open.

In the waiting area, Mochizuki was holding James's hand tightly, gently tracing symbols of blessing with her finger.

"It's okay if you don't win," she whispered. "Just don't get hurt."

James smiled, patting her head affectionately.

"Funny… When no one believed in me, you were the one who had full confidence. Now that everyone expects me to win, you're the one getting worried."

He gave her nose a playful flick and urged her to return to the audience. A special golden seat had been prepared for family members. James had no family in this world besides Mochizuki, so she sat there with Chiyo and the others.

Time ticked by slowly. The tension in the hall grew heavier. Voices lowered to whispers, and the crowd grew still.

Boom!!

A massive bell tolled, silencing the entire venue.

Up on the rostrum, more than a dozen powerful figures appeared in silence. As usual, Shinji Nitta stepped forward and announced the beginning of the final round.

"Contestants, please enter the arena!"

James stepped out of the waiting area. With a light push of his feet, he leapt onto the platform in a single move.

On the other side, a magnificent ice staircase materialized before Shinomiya Saki. She climbed it slowly, gracefully, and with unshakable poise.

As soon as they appeared on the stage, a deafening roar echoed across the arena. Over ten thousand people shouted in unison, forming a sea of excitement and expectation.

James selected a long sword from the weapon rack nearby, while Shinomiya Saki held a longbow in her hand.

"She can use a bow?" someone muttered.

"Since when?" another asked.

"I've never seen her do that before."

The audience erupted in murmurs and speculation.

Shinji Nitta raised his voice.

"This is the final battle! Let the match… begin!"

Saki's snow-white hair fluttered gently despite the still air. Her icy blue eyes glimmered coldly as she raised her hand.

With a wave, dozens of sparkling ice crystals appeared in midair—sharp, diamond-shaped, their tips aimed downward. The temperature dropped dramatically.

"Fall!"

Her voice was as crisp as a wind chime. Instantly, the ice crystals plunged downward like daggers.

James unsheathed his sword. A brilliant slash of sword light tore through the air, shattering the incoming crystals. A dense mist filled the arena.

Saki clenched her fist. The fragments of ice on the ground surged toward James, attempting to freeze his footing.

James leapt upward, avoiding the advancing frost.

This kind of attack can't possibly hit me.

What was she planning? Even the audience seemed puzzled.

As he landed, he felt his feet slide slightly. A thin layer of ice had covered the entire platform, reducing grip and balance.

Ah… So that's her plan. Weaken my mobility first.

A faint smile curled on his lips.

Suddenly, four ice dragons burst out from around Saki, roaring with their jaws wide open. Each one exhaled a freezing breath, strengthening the frost already blanketing the field.

James stabbed his toes into the ice to stabilize himself. With a flash of his sword, the four dragons shattered into enormous chunks of ice.

The explosion covered the entire arena in shattered ice. Even the weapon rack was blasted off the stage.

So now I've lost my backup sword… What will you do next, Saki?

James tightened his grip and smiled slightly, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
