Chapter 6: The Dragon Palace
"Arya," Mother suddenly said, pulling me from my dreams, "Yes?"
"Remember to enjoy, make lots of friends, and greet the royals with proper manners, like I taught you. If you make any mistakes, don't worry everything will be fine. You are going to separate from us because children and adults have different sitting arrangements. There will be the same kids whom you have seen in the temple, plus the royal twins. Lastly, make sure you know, or must keep in mind, that who you are, DO NOT anyone can walk over you,Understand?"
'I never saw my mother this serious.' Nevertheless, I nodded.
The view outside the carriage was beautiful, even though it was evening. The streetlights gave a beautiful glow. Our carriage had magical glasses so we could see outside, but nobody could see inside. The Duke's mansion is located on the north side of Nandaka City, while the temple is located in the middle of the city. But the Dragon Palace is situated on the top of Dragon Hill on the mountain of Veerapita, so it will take an hour or so to get there. On the other hand, the Royals use teleportation for every visit.
Nandaka is surrounded by the river Azurecail on the three sides and the hill Veerapita on one side. It is impossible to go to the capital without the help of teleportation. The river of Azurecail is the second most holy river. There is a big forest, Gilaonfang, said to be very dangerous,at the outer side of the river. The hill is located on the eastern side of the city, and our kingdom's Dukedom is situated on the North side of the kingdom.
While I was daydreaming, my mother was resting, and my father was reading something I am not sure if it's a document or something else. There are no bumps on the road thanks to the magical carriages. Truthfully, these carriages are better than modern cars. With little hustle and bustle, we arrived at the door of the palace. If I say the door is huge, that's a mistake because it's so freaking gigantic. It's made from some strong, strong metal with a big, dark blue dragon on it. Truly speaking, it's scary to look, especially those eyes.
We are still in our carriage when they open the gate while announcing my parents' name. And for the first time, I have seen a palace so big. Our own palace is big, but this is on another level. Big gardens, wide roads, high sculptures of different dragons, different animals and birds you name it, literally everything you can think of.
Among them there was a fully shining building, like a sun among the stars, so bright and big. I felt like my eyes were going to pop out any time, even if it was night time. Here, everything was full of light, the palace looked like a city in paradise. After crossing a small gate, a long corridor, and in the end a very tall and decorated, well-built door of expensive stones, we entered in the main big building of the palace.
"Yours, Grace," A guard in imperial uniform greeted us.
Father just nodded.
"Let me guide the Miss," After getting the permission from my father, he guided me.
"Arya, at all the best, enjoy a lot. Okay?" Father rubbed my head lovingly while mother warmly nodded.
I could see a long corridor and the end of it was a door. With every step, my heartbeat increased, the uneasiness was making me more afraid of that door. There were too many questions in my heart.
'Should I run away? Are there already kids or am I the first one to arrive or last ?' I thought. I swiftly reached the door.
The door guard opened it for me while announcing, "Lady Ignis entering!"
I took a deep breath and stepped inside. 'I can do it!' the door closed behind me. Even though I knew the rules and etiquette, the fear wasn't gone. At least I don't need to greet anyone but only the royal twins, I can survive. There were already many kids. I don't know if I'm the late one though, but let's sit for now. As a Duke's daughter, they all need to greet me first, So I calm down a little. I looked towards the main sofa that was almost in the middle of the hall. I could see everyone looking in my way, no one was approaching me.
I am aware that my facial features, my 'Sila' score, and my position as a noble are intimidating, but isn't it rude not to greet me? Keeping my head light with elegant steps, I was approaching the sofa. Then two girls, one with orange hair with dark green eyes, the other with dark blue and lavender eyes, greeted me.
"It's Lady of the house Count Elcowlta, Poppy Elcowlta, greets the Lady Ignis." The orange-haired girl said,
"It's Lady of house Count Rekonala, Laira, greets Lady Ignis," the dark blue-haired girl said. Even though I felt the sudden interaction was a little overwhelming, it didn't show on my face. I also greeted them back elegantly.
"Lady Ignis, oh my Goddess, you were so awesome!" Poppy said.
"Oh yes, Lady Ignis is like an idol to us," Laura added. Their twinkling eyes bothered me a little but made me happy and proud of myself. But I kept my face humbled.
"Oh, it was nothing, it's not in our own achievement, it's our Ancestors and Goddess's blessings," I humbly said.
"But because I was the first one , I don't see your score," I added guilty.
"Oh, not to worry, mine was '69' and Poppy scored '70'," she said.
"But Lady Ignis, you are as beautiful as a Red Rose," Poppy gleefully said.
That was the cue for me to feel shy.
"Yes, talented , beautiful and kind," Laira added.
"You guys are talented and cute too, and please call me Arya."
"Oh my Goddess, really?" in unison.
"So now we are friends?" Poppy happily asked.
"No, No, how that can be--"
I cut Laira in, "So you don't want my your friend."
"No, No, that's not what I meant …" Laira panicked.
"So we are friends," I declared.
They arent my first friends, but I can see my best friends in them.
While we were laughing and chatting, we moved to the food and drink tables.
"So Arya, what would you like to drink?" Poppy asked me.
"Hmm...." when I was busy thinking about the flavour of my drink, something shattered and a sharp cry could be heard behind me.
