Chapter 312: Encounter in the ceremony.
The tea had become cold and Rowen was staring at the chessboard with a confused expression. He didn't know what had happened, but all his pawns had been eaten by Mykel, leaving the king alone. Not only that, all his first rank pieces had betrayed him, even his queen had become Mykel's.
"That was quite a fun game," Mykel said as he looked at the chessboard where all his pawns were still alive, and the enemies had become his allies. "We should play this again some other time," he added and put down his king, admitting his defeat.
Rowen was confused once again because Mykel surrendered rather than killing his king to end the game. He realized that Mykel had been taking it easy on the game and that his actions implied that he was too powerful for Rowen.
"It took Her Majesty two decades to be able to win against me..." Rowen was still in disbelief. "I have never seen anyone play the game like you, Sir Alester," he said and looked at Mykel.
"There's nothing to brag about. This is simply a game and real life scenario isn't that simple," Mykel responded as he stood up. "I could make the game more complicated if you want, and I bet it would be a lot more fun than this," he added.
Rowen was speechless and thought about what Mykel meant by that, but the way Mykel said that made Rowen wonder. Mykel was three decades younger, but his capability was like someone who had lived for decades in a war-like environment. His plot and scheme were unstoppable even though Rowen knew what he was planning to do.
"It would be an honor if I'm given the opportunity to play that game with you, Sir Alester," Rowen said as he offered his hand for a handshake. "It was a good game and it was my loss," he added.
Mykel shook Rowen's hand and then left the room. Rowan was still staring at the chessboard and learning Mykel's moves and strategies.
"The next rift will appear in a month, what are you planning to do now?" Aevia asked.
"We will see. Something interesting might happen," Mykel answered and saw Elysande walking in the hallway and approaching him.
A month had passed and it was as Aevia said that a new rift had opened in Faelethria Kingdom. The rift wasn't like the previous one because the invasion was like stages where the boss would appear after ten stages. In the stages before the boss, Awakeners were given a chance to get stronger and understand the boss they were going to face.
Once the rift got cleared, a new rift opened three days after, a harder one. If they couldn't clear the rift in a week, an outbreak would happen and another rift would appear as scheduled. So if they couldn't clear the rift, they would be overwhelmed by the outbreaks and would end up in a never-ending chaos.
Mykel had been staying in the palace as Elestria's personal adviser and guard. Nothing much happened between them, but Elysande had been visiting Mykel a few times every week. She was trying to dig into Mykel's personality and his true intentions to get close to Elestria.
"Tomorrow we will attend the presidential inauguration ceremony in the Verdentia Republic. I want you to get some rest because tomorrow it will be busy," Elestria said as she signed a document.
Mykel nodded and then walked away, but before he could leave the room, Elestria stopped him.
"I noticed that my sister has been visiting you a lot lately. What kind of business does she have with you?" Elestria asked and stared at Mykel from her desk.
"Nothing, in particular, Your Highness. Lady Elysande is making sure that I'm living here comfortably," Mykel answered.
At that moment, Elestria could see Mykel's aura and it showed that he was hiding something. Elysande also showed the same aura when Elestria asked the same question, and it only made her suspicion grow.
"Stay," Elestria said as she stood up.
Elestria approached Mykel and stared him in the eye with a cold gaze, but that didn't even bother him at all.
"You dare to lie in front of me?" Elestria asked coldly.
"I don't lie, Your Highness, I don't think it is necessary for me to explain everything about my conversation with Lady Elysande," Mykel answered and stared back into Elestria's eyes. "I was accompanying Lady Elysande because she needs it," he pointed out.
Elestria squinted her eyes and showed her suspicion to Mykel to tell him that she didn't believe it. She was suspicious that both of them would stab her in the back in the future because she knew how rotten herself were. Not only that, but the fact that Mykel was confident about fixing Elysande's infertility made it more possible because Elysande could replace her easily.
"I will allow you to continue accompanying my sister as you plead your loyalty to both of us. But, you have to report your conversation with her to me," Elestria said with a serious expression. "If you dare to lie and hide anything from me. Remember, your life is in my hands," she warned as she put her hand on Mykel's chest.
"I understand, Your Highness," Mykel bowed his head and then left.
Mykel's reply was too fast and that only made Elestria more suspicious because she couldn't tell if he was genuine or not. She couldn't see clearly his aura and that bothered her and made her unable to have peace of mind. She started to suspect that Mykel had a scheme that he planned behind her back, but if she was wrong, Mykel would leave her side.
"I need a drink..." Elestria sighed as she rubbed her forehead.
The morning came, and Mykel and Elestria flew to the Verdentia Republic to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony. Elestria in her purple dress with a white fur coat that she put over her shoulders and a gold crown on top of her head, making her the most beautiful and elegant woman in the whole nation. Mykel was in his usual black suit, shirt, and tie with black gloves, the only difference was he wore a pin, a sword, and a wings pin that proved that he was the second most important person from Faelethria Kingdom.
Tristan was coming with them with four Zero Tiers members with him to protect Elestria. He requested Elestria to bring more, but she was confident that Mykel alone was more than enough, she even said that the Zero Tier members weren't needed.
Nobody dared to initiate the conversation with Elestria because of the rule of royalty. They weren't allowed to converse with Elestria or Elysande unless they were the ones who initiated the conversation first. That gave those two the same title around the world, the Untouchable Flowers, but of course, they both hated that title since it made them look like objects.
"Tristan, you stay here and watch the parameters. I'm going with Mykel from now on," Elestria said before she entered the grand hall.
Tristan bowed his head and immediately stationed his men outside the hall. Discover more content at My Virtual Library Empire
The moment Elestria entered the grand hall, it became silent, even the chamber assembly stopped playing the music. People were focused on Elestria and then all of them lowered their heads and put their right hands on their chests. They all respected her and nobody dared to lift their heads as they heard her walk past them.
"Where is Lady Melissa?" Elestria asked as she looked around.
"Your Majesty, if you allow me," A man in a tuxedo approached Elestria with his head looking at the ground.
"You may," Elestria nodded her head.
Mykel looked around and only a few of them had awakened, and they were as weak as normal people. The grand hall was filled with people with political power and nothing else which was quite boring. When he lost interest in the ceremony, he noticed there was someone in front of him who was quite strong, perhaps stronger than Tristan in terms of awakened power.
"Lady Melissa Evander," Elestria looked at the young woman sitting at the table in the corner, drinking her champagne.
A woman with very long dark red hair and eyes with a depressed and empty expression. At first, Mykel thought she was Lyneth, but the woman only had the same posture and body shape as Lyneth. He also noticed that the strong man he saw was guarding her on the side.
The man was wearing the same black suit as Mykel and gloves that hid his hands. The only difference was the man had a big scar across his face, making it hard to make any expression that stretched his face. The mask he wore was to hide his mouth it looked hideous and enough to make everyone disgusted by it. The man was the same age as Mykel and his eyes were as bright as the blazing flame.
"Your Majesty..." Melissa jolted and hurriedly went down to her knee, but Elestria stopped her.
"My condolences, Melissa. Can I hug you?" Elestria asked as she frowned.
Melissa nodded her head, and then Elestria hugged her so tightly that enough to make Melissa's tears fall to her chin. She was crying and couldn't help but hug Elestria back to seek comfort from Elestria.
While those two were having their own moments, Mykel and the man stared at each other. A man who had been through hell and back with only brute force and scars as proof of his resilience. The other one who had been through hell and back unscathed as his proof of brilliance. Two men acknowledged each other and couldn't help but be curious about each other's abilities.
