Dimensional Kaguya Ōtsutsuki

Chapter 568: The New Investigator

"Hmph." Tatara shot Kaguya a cold glance, snorted lightly, and turned away, walking off into the distance.

"Tatara-san," Eto Yoshimura called out, tilting her massive head inquiringly.

"It's time to leave," Tatara said in a deep voice. "Lingering here any longer is pointless. The CCG forces will arrive soon, and if they catch up to us, it could become troublesome."

"Understood, Tatara-san," Eto Yoshimura responded, her massive claws thudding on the ground as she followed after him.

"Hey, you're just going to leave like that?" Kaguya hurriedly ran after them, shouting anxiously, "Don't go yet! Don't you want to learn the technique? If you do, I'll give you a discount—80% off! 50% off! How about that?"

This was a prime opportunity to fleece some gullible targets, especially ghouls like these who rarely considered the finer details of currency. Kaguya was determined not to let it slip away.

But Tatara completely ignored her shouts. Eto Yoshimura, on the other hand, turned her head slightly, giving Kaguya a curious glance before continuing to follow Tatara, leaving her behind without hesitation.

Kaguya started to chase after them, but Kishou Arima appeared in her path, blocking her way. Calmly, he said, "Don't bother. They aren't your match."

"Hey, you," Kaguya said, glaring at him. "Don't get in the way of my business! And besides," she added, her tone growing annoyed, "how do you know I can't beat them?"

"Confidence is a good thing," Arima replied, his cold gaze meeting hers. "But being overly confident and relying too much on your own strength will eventually lead to an unforeseen failure." Without waiting for her response, he turned and began walking toward the CCG base.

"He was just getting beaten to a pulp earlier, and now he's acting like he's some kind of mentor. His thick skin is truly unmatched," Kaguya muttered disdainfully, watching him walk away as she curled her lips in scorn.

At that moment, the sound of hurried footsteps filled the air. A large group of human troops arrived, splitting into two formations to surround Kaguya completely. They held submachine guns and quinques, all aimed at her, their combat stances radiating tension.

"Freeze! Don't move! Hands up!" a tall man appeared in front of her, his voice ringing out loudly. He had short black hair, long, sharp eyebrows, and narrow eyes. His face was chiseled like stone, exuding a calm but formidable presence. In his hands was a nearly two-meter-long blade with a pole handle, and his tone was commanding.

Kaguya blinked in mild surprise as she turned to face him. She recognized him—he was someone she had seen during her time at the CCG. His name was Koutarou Amon, a Senior First-Class Investigator. His physical fitness and combat skills were exceptional, making him one of the most capable within the organization.

"Hey, is this how you treat someone who just helped you?" Kaguya ignored the man in front of her and shouted toward Kishou Arima, who hadn't yet gone far.

Koutarou Amon paused in confusion and glanced toward Arima.

Arima stopped in his tracks, turned back slightly, and said, "It's true—she was just fighting the ghouls alongside us earlier."

"I see," Koutarou Amon said, relaxing slightly as he straightened his stance. "If that's the case, then—"

"But even so," Arima interrupted, slipping his broken glasses into his pocket. His tone was calm but firm. "It doesn't rule out the possibility that she's a spy for the ghouls."

"A spy?" Kaguya's fury erupted as she stormed toward him, only to be restrained midway. "You ungrateful bastard! If it weren't for me saving you, you'd already be dead! And now you're accusing me of betrayal?"

"Even without your help, they're no match for me," Kishou Arima glanced at her and said calmly. "Escort her to the RC gate for a scan. Additionally, draw blood for a more detailed examination."

"Is that level of scrutiny necessary?" Koutarou Amon asked, startled.

Ordinarily, RC scans only required passing through the RC detection gate. Additional tests, such as blood sampling, were only requested for significant cases or under special circumstances.

"Yes," Arima said, turning to Kaguya, who was fuming with anger. "Apologies, but these are critical times. I hope you can understand."

"Understand, my ass!" Kaguya shouted, furious.

...

Two Hours Later

Kaguya pressed a cotton ball against the needle mark on her arm, her delicate face so stormy it seemed as though water might drip from it. Those nobodies actually had the nerve to draw her blood. If not for her desire to keep her identity concealed, she would have wiped them all out.

Her current plan was simple: she wanted the CCG to notice her and integrate her into their ranks. From there, she aimed to trace the Washuu family through subtle clues. This was the reason she had been enduring these indignities. The information Kaguya had previously obtained from the CCG Director's office hinted at a connection between ghouls and the Washuu family. Given the Washuu's significant ties to the organization, there was a strong likelihood they were behind it all.

As for the mysterious meteorite that was said to possess extraordinary powers, it didn't seem directly related to the origin of ghouls. Even if it did, its connection remained tenuous, and Kaguya's focus was firmly set on the Washuu family.

The Washuu family hid deep within the CCG, and their clandestine "V" organization was even more secretive. No one truly knew their intentions. Using brute force alone would make uncovering the secrets Kaguya sought exceedingly difficult in a short time.

Moreover, if Kaguya were to attack openly, the Washuu family might retreat into deeper hiding. If they disappeared into the shadows, finding them would be like searching for a needle in a haystack.

...

"Your test results are ready."

A familiar voice suddenly broke Kaguya's thoughts.

Turning her head, she saw it was Koutarou Amon.

Koutarou walked over to her and said, "Apologies for earlier—it was just routine procedure. I hope you can understand."

"Whatever," Kaguya said curtly, throwing him an annoyed glance. "If you've got something to say, say it quickly. Are you here to tell me my RC cells are abnormal and that you're going to arrest me?"

"No," Koutarou replied, shaking his head. "Your RC cell count is 250, which falls within the normal range for humans. You've been cleared of suspicion as a ghoul."

"You're the one who's 250!" Kaguya snapped, snatching the report from his hands angrily.

...

"Are the test results on that individual ready?" The white-haired, chiseled-faced man sitting in the chair turned around and asked.

"They are," Koutarou Amon said as he handed the report to Arima. "Her RC cell count falls within the normal range and shows no significant abnormalities—it's consistent with that of a typical human."

"So, she's indeed not a ghoul..." Arima murmured, his gaze lingering on the details in the report. Yet, his expression remained cautious.

"But there is something unusual, which I'm sure you've noticed as well," Koutarou Amon continued. "Her cell activity is extraordinarily high. Normally, untreated human blood cells begin dying within a few hours. However, her cells showed no signs of death even after prolonged storage. Not only that, but their activity level remained nearly identical to when the sample was freshly taken."

Arima stared at the report, lost in thought for a while before asking, "Does she exhibit any other abnormalities, like dietary habits?"

"It seems she isn't particularly concerned about food. Earlier in the cafeteria, she ate enough for three people and still didn't appear full," Koutarou Amon replied. "If she were a ghoul, she wouldn't eat regular food, and human food should cause them nausea. Her behavior, in that regard, is quite unusual."

"Still, we can't let our guard down," Arima said as he stood. "This individual, Liuli, who claims to be Tsukiyomi's sister, is a subject of interest. If necessary, we must take decisive measures."

"Understood," Koutarou Amon nodded. "By the way, she made a request."

"What request?" Arima asked calmly.

"She wants to join the CCG," Koutarou Amon said.

"Join the CCG?" Arima's sharp eyes narrowed slightly.

...

After the intense battle between the CCG and Aogiri Tree, the CCG base had suffered considerable damage. The building was left in ruins, with shattered walls and debris everywhere. Even after being washed by rain, the faint smell of blood still lingered in the air.

Thanks to reinforcements from the CCG headquarters and the assistance of top-ranked investigators like Kishou Arima, Aogiri Tree's ghouls were unable to cause catastrophic damage. While the casualty numbers were high, they were within acceptable limits—a small consolation amidst the chaos.

...

Outside the CCG building, on the training grounds.

"I heard you want to join the CCG," a gentle voice suddenly spoke, pulling Kaguya out of her thoughts. She turned to see a beautiful blonde woman—it was Akira Mado.

"Why are you out of the hospital? Are your injuries healed?" Kaguya asked, her gaze drifting to Akira's abdomen, which was flat and smooth without a hint of excess fat.

"Smack!" Akira dropped a thick stack of documents onto Kaguya's head and huffed, "Thanks to you, I don't have the luxury of wasting time lying around in a hospital bed."

Ever since Kaguya handed Matasaka Kamishiro and Rize Kamishiro over to Akira, the latter had been on edge. Despite the fact that Rize was a stunning beauty, the reality was that she was also an SS-rated ghoul—one of the most dangerous out there. Handling her was like holding a ticking time bomb.

Akira had also come to realize that Aogiri Tree's target in this operation had been Rize Kamishiro. Though she didn't yet know why they were after her, it was clear that such an elaborate assault on the CCG must have been for an extraordinary purpose.

"Don't worry. A ghoul like that won't cause you any trouble," Kaguya said casually, tilting her head slightly. "If she could break free, she'd have done so already. Clearly, she can't."

"Why are you so certain of that?" Akira asked curiously as she walked over and sat down beside Kaguya.

Kaguya pointed at her own nose with her finger and said, "Because I'm here."

"Has anyone ever told you something important?" Akira leaned in close, staring at Kaguya with a serious expression.

"What did they say?" Kaguya was momentarily stunned.

"That your skin is unnaturally thick," Akira Mado said with a huff, poking Kaguya's forehead with her finger.

"Thanks for the compliment," Kaguya chuckled, narrowing her eyes mischievously as she grabbed Akira's finger.

"I wasn't complimenting you," Akira retorted, shaking off Kaguya's hand. "By the way, you still haven't answered my question. Why do you want to join the CCG?"

"Well..." Kaguya tapped her chin thoughtfully before turning her head and blinking innocently. "Probably because it's more fun here."

Akira was speechless.

...

"Hey, hey, did you see that?"

"You mean the new investigator who just joined the CCG?"

"Huh? Never heard about it."

"She's over there, sitting on that chair."

"No way, the CCG has such a beautiful investigator?"

"Yeah, she just joined. Supposedly, she's the younger sister of the missing investigator Tsukiyomi."

"That's so enviable."

"If I had a girlfriend like that, my life would be complete."

"It's still daytime, you know."

"So what?"

"Stop daydreaming already."

"..."

As expected, Kaguya's application to join the CCG was approved. After all, her abilities had already been recognized by most.

Of course, while many accepted her claim of single-handedly defeating SS-rated ghouls like Matasaka Kamishiro and Rize Kamishiro, there were plenty who doubted her. Many saw her as just a pretty face. In a place like this, a stunning beauty like her wasn't easily regarded as anything other than decoration. People acknowledged her looks, but her strength was another matter entirely.

Isn't that how people are?

Whenever a beautiful woman achieves something, others assume it's due to backdoor deals, secret favors, or connections like a sugar daddy. Her own abilities are rarely given the credit they deserve.

At the moment, Kaguya's face was dark, as though someone owed her a fortune and refused to pay it back. When she noticed people pointing at her and whispering among themselves, she turned her head sharply and shouted, "What are you staring at? Get lost!"

The crowd fell silent, as if frozen by a sudden chill. Their faces filled with awkwardness, and they quickly looked away, pretending to be occupied with other things. Inside, they couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret—who would've thought such a pretty girl would have such a fiery temper?
