Dimensional Quest: I Got Reincarnated Into My Trashy Fanfic

Chapter 57: [Banri] 'If she can't, I'll have to be the one that explains things to Rokujou-sensei.'

David and Shouko were standing shoulder to shoulder in front of a kitchen island that had a large counterspace and an oven in the middle with a glass stovetop.

"The meat is still marinating so we'll focus on the side dishes right now. Since gyudon is already pretty filling, I planned to make miso soup and potato salad. How do those sound to you?" David asked.

Shouko didn't write anything down and instead just nodded in excitement.

"Haha, alright. Go ahead and pour a few cups of dashi stock into that pot and I'll start peeling these potatoes," David said as he pointed to a big pot on one of the stove's heating elements.

Once again, Shouko just nodded her head in excitement as she measured out three cups of dashi stock and put them in the pot before turning the heat on.

David watched her with a smile as he quickly peeled the potatoes and threw them in a pot of water to boil.

Since they could only wait for now, David leaned against the counter as he looked over at his wives and guests in the living room, smiling as he saw Toa getting flustered by all of the new people and environment around her.

"Haha, they look like they're having fun. Are you sure you don't want to join them, Shouko?"

Shouko grabbed her notebook from the counter before walking right up to David,

*scribble scribble scribble*

and shoving the notebook in his face.

*"I want to be with you, David."*

Shouko looked at David with puppy dog eyes, making his heart melt.

Just like with some other girls, David instinctively reached out and patted Shouko's head, gently stroking her soft hair.

Shouko's face turned bright red, but she didn't move and only looked off to the side.

"Ah!" David came back to his senses and realized what he just did, pulling his hand back and scolding himself.

'Dammit, think about your actions, dude.'

"Sorry, it was an instinctive reaction. I need to work on that so I don't get arrested for harassment in the future, ahaha...," David said, hoping he didn't make Shouko feel uncomfortable.

*scribble scribble, erase, scribble, erase erase, scribble scribble*

Shouko was going crazy on her notebook, writing and erasing constantly, causing David to feel nervous.

David pulled a bottle of strawberry milk out of his inventory, not worried about Shouko seeing him use his powers anymore, and sipped it down slowly to calm himself down.

After a couple of minutes, Shouko's face was still bright red as she flipped the notebook over for David to see.

*"Do friends do that to other friends? Is it weird if I feel good from that? I have a ticklish feeling in my chest that makes me happy, but I didn't feel that way with the others. Am I a bad friend for wanting you to touch me more?"*

*PFFFFT!!!*

David's eyes almost popped out of his skull again as he read what Shouko wrote, choking on his drink and spitting it out all over the kitchen sink.

*cough cough cough!!!*

⟪ Dammit, be careful with your phrasing, Shouko! ⟫

The girls in the living room all turned their heads to see the commotion, only to see David leaning over the sink and coughing while Shouko just held her notebook up against her tomato-red face and trembled.

After David caught his breath and was no longer in danger of 'death by favorite beverage,' he turned to look at Shouko and saw the scared yet embarrassed look on her face.

He took a deep breath before saying, "First of all, I apologize for touching your head. That was rude of me when I literally just told you I wouldn't flirt with you, definitely my bad. Second, yes, some friends will pat each other on the heads, but only when they're close friends that have known each other for a long time or are both of the same gender."

Shouko nodded slightly as David continued.

"It's not weird if you feel good from that, it's just... I dunno, I don't want to confuse your feelings. I don't want to sound full of myself, but that ticklish feeling in your chest that you get with me and not the others is probably because I caused you to feel something for me that you wouldn't have for just a friend when I patted your head."

"However, I'm the one at fault here for the excessive physical contact. Wanting to feel more of that feeling isn't a bad thing either and it doesn't make you a bad friend. If anything, I'm the bad friend for making you feel that way."

David rubbed his face and sighed, feeling like an idiot for flirting when he just wanted to help her make friends.

Shouko looked at her notebook for a moment before she started writing again.

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"I'm not upset about it and I liked it. Why are you apologizing to me?"*

David raised an eyebrow, "I mean, I told you I wouldn't flirt with you unless you asked me to and I said I would just be a friend, right? Me doing what I just did makes me a liar and makes me feel manipulative. "

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"And I told you earlier that I wanted you to flirt with me. I don't understand why you see the need to apologize or feel bad. You can still be my friend and flirt with me, right?"*

David couldn't tell whether he wanted to laugh or cry.

'Shouko, you really don't understand how friendships work, do you...?'

"No, because friends don't actually flirt with each other. That's something you do with someone you have a crush on and want to be in a relationship with. While there are technically friends who flirt with each other, it's usually either done in a joking way or it's done with deeper intentions."

Shouko seemed to be thinking hard about what David told her until the blush that had just disappeared started to reappear.

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"What does it mean to have a crush on someone?"*

David thought for a moment about how to answer that question.

"Having a crush on someone means to have that person on your mind more than anyone else. You think about them even when they're not around, and when they are, your heart beats faster. You want to talk to them, be close to them, and you might be more scared of saying or doing the wrong thing around them, too."

"It's not always obvious at first, but if you find yourself thinking about someone and smiling for no reason, that might be it. Don't worry though, it's not something you have to figure out right away," David said reassuringly.

He hoped she wouldn't overthink anything and get overwhelmed by both the idea of friendships and romantic relationships.

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"I think about you a lot, David. Ever since you gave me your contact information yesterday, I've been thinking about how to talk to you and get closer to you. My heart is beating faster right now even though my face might not show it. I want to talk to you and get close to you, but I'm afraid of saying the wrong thing. I smiled when you texted me and when I thought about coming over for lunch. It might not look like it, but I've been smiling all day."*

Shouko couldn't write it, but she had actually been thinking about him every day since last week when she started to hear his inner voice. It was a constant, soothing, and charming voice that she wanted to keep listening to like a 24/7 radio station.

David, somehow not knowing that, wanted to facepalm.

⟪ Did I just totally confuse her? If I'm her first friend, it's obvious that she'd be acting like this toward me. I mean, her heart beating faster could just be due to her excitement from spending time with her first friend, right? ⟫

[What if she genuinely has a crush on you and your denial ends up hurting her? It sure reminds me of Makoto and Hasegawa...]

'...'

David looked at Shouko and could see the seriousness in her eyes.

"...Do you think you have a crush on me, Shouko? I don't want you to be confused now only to realize that you don't have feelings for me later and then our friendship turns awkward."

Shouko shoved her notebook further in David's face and just nodded her head fiercely.

Well, Shouko thought she was being fierce with her affirmation. To David and the other girls watching, she looked incredibly cute as her eyes went wide and she leaned her upper body forward in anticipation.

"...Pffft hahaha! Shouko, I know you're trying to be serious, but your actions are too cute right now."

Shouko shrunk back a bit and pulled her notebook away.

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"I'm serious. I think I have a crush on you, David."*

She flipped it around to show David and left her face uncovered this time, showing a small, gentle smile.

"I... Th-Th... Think I... L... Li... L-Like... Y-Y-Y... Y-You... D-D-David...," Shouko said with an incredibly sweet and gentle voice, staring right into David's eyes with her dark purple eyes filled with an almost sad gaze.

David looked back at her and gave up with his internal struggle.

⟪ Yup... Marin must have infected her with the 'instant love' disease... Oh well, I'll just try to take things slow with Shouko and find out how she truly feels along the way. ⟫

He smiled and reached forward to pat her on the head again.

"Alright, fine. We'll stay as friends until you know for certain how you feel about me, but I'll flirt with you to see if it changes anything. If at any point you want me to stop flirting and you realize your feelings were just a spur of the moment thing, just let me know and I'll do my best to turn our friendship into a normal one."

Shouko looked down to start writing again, but when she felt David start to remove his hand from her head, she shot her hand out at an incredible speed and grabbed his arm, pressing it back down so his hand was still on her head.

David just smiled and didn't say anything as he waited for Shouko's next words.

*scribble scribble scribble*

*"I will figure out my feelings, I'm certain. Also, please touch me more."*

David's lip twitched. "...You need to work on your phrasing a bit, Shouko... If you don't understand, you can ask Marin about it and she'll tell you why."

Shouko really didn't understand, but David refused to say anything else about it, afraid of corrupting her further.

He looked over at the pot of dashi stock and added some cubed tofu and green onions, though he used air manipulation to add them as his right hand was occupied with Shouko and he didn't want to stretch his left arm over awkwardly across the stove.

Plus, using air manipulation is just cool, okay...?

The potatoes were still not done yet so he focused on the main dish now.

In another pot, he added dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sliced onion, waiting for it to heat up so he could throw the meat and marinade in when it's ready.

Of course, he did all of it with one hand as he continued stroking Shouko's hair, making her feel inexplicably happy.

...

In the living room, Yoruichi leaned over to Marin and asked, "So, how long did it really take you to fall in love with David?"

Marin, not looking the least bit embarrassed, proudly said, "I met him on Tuesday night and fell in love with him on Wednesday morning!"

Rangiku and Isane looked at Marin with raised eyebrows.

"So... Less than a day to fall in love with him and three days to be his main wife?" Yoruichi asked.

"Hmm... Now that you mention it, I suppose it has been less than a week... Weird, it feels like longer. Oh well, that sounds about right~!" Marin replied with a shrug.

[Yoruichi] 'I admit David is the most attractive man I've ever seen and his power is hard to fathom so far, but falling in love in such a short amount of time sounds a bit unrealistic to me... How many other girls are the same as her?'

Luckily for Yoruichi, Isane asked what she was thinking. "Are there any others here who fell in love with David in such a short amount of time?"

Tomoe, Mio, and Toa raised their hands, with Toa looking the most embarrassed out of them all.

Sofia refrained from raising her hand as she was still unsure of if she actually had feelings for David or if she was just wanting to use him for her own needs.

"Wow... I was thinking it was an age-related thing at first, but Tomoe-san told me that her and Mio-san both don't even know how old they are...," Isane said thoughtfully.

"Well, it was different for Mio and I. I saw his memories and found him interesting. His looks and abilities are favorable, his attitude is wonderful, he doesn't show mercy to his enemies, and he's my young master. How could I not fall in love with him?" Tomoe said.

"Indeed. For me, it was because husband can give me what I desire most and saved me from a lifetime of starvation. He is kind and caring, he always listens to us, he has already shown himself to be a loving father, and sex with him is... out of this world," Mio added.

Tomoe nodded in agreement to Mio's comment about sex, giving her a high-five. They were both clearly happy with the events of last night.

Marin then looked over at the other women and asked, "So what, you're telling us that you haven't fallen in love with hubby~?"

Rangiku, Isane, and Yoruichi simultaneously said, "No."

"Tch, I doubt it. Who were the ones listening and watching the orgy last night, huh?" Sofia prodded.

Isane blushed and looked down, but didn't say anything.

Rangiku crossed her arms under her breasts and said, "It was a good show, so what? Just because I was listening doesn't mean I'm in love with David."

"Uh-huh, because you definitely weren't jealous of the wives last night," Sofia snorted.

Rangiku blushed slightly and her eyebrow twitched, but then she got up to grab a beer from the fridge, choosing to ignore the comment entirely.

Sofia then looked at Yoruichi to hear her answer.

"What? I was trapped in there because Marin brought me in. I didn't do or feel anything over their little bedroom escapade," Yoruichi said, looking confident with her answer.

"Heheh~, I felt you staring at us all night though?" Marin teased.

"Shut up, that was probably a stray animal outside or something."

"...On the 30th floor?" Sofia asked.

"Look, whether I was looking or not doesn't matter. I'm not in love with David, I just find him incredibly attractive and abled. He called me sexy, but that doesn't mean he's in love with me, does it? It just means he has a working pair of eyes," Yoruichi countered, grinning as she crossed her legs.

"Alright alright, let's not judge each other for how quickly we fell in love with hubby. I'm just happy that Shouko is figuring out her feelings, heheh~," Marin said, genuinely happy with the possibility of getting another sister.

"We still don't know if she actually likes him or not. If she has no experience with relationships, platonic or otherwise, she could just be excited to finally have a friend and is confusing that with love," Yoruichi said.

"Don't be such a downer~! Let the kids fall in love, hahaha~!" Rangiku said as she sat back down with a beer in her hand and a goofy grin plastered on her face.

It should be noted that Rangiku is not drunk yet, her attitude is simply coming from the excitement of having a cold beer in her hand.

"I'm not, I'm just being realistic here. I think it would be great if Shouko actually managed to find love in her first friend, no matter how quick it was, but I just want her to actually know what she's feeling so she doesn't confuse herself. David feels the same way."

Marin stretched her legs out and propped them up on the coffee table in front of her as she rested her hands behind her head.

"Eh~, it'll be fine. I have confidence that she's going to fall in love with him if she hasn't truly done so already. Now we just need to bring Orihime into the mix, heheheh~."

Rangiku took a swig of her beer, "Ahhh~... Why ya gotta bring more people from our franchise into it?"

"I just like her is all, heheh. She's a total cutie and her only quirk aside from being a tiny bit of an airhead is her taste in food!"

"Her taste in food?" Sofia asked, curious about how someone could have something as simple as food as a notable quirk.

"She uh... likes to eat some questionable things...," Isane said.

"Such as?"

"...Natto, yogurt, soy sauce, mustard, pickles, and jam on toast, all combined into one monstrosity..."

Isane made a disgusted face as she recalled one of the things Orihime ate on their outing yesterday.

"Or wasabi, soy sauce, and chocolate cake... Ugh, that one just smelled awful," Rangiku added.

"Don't forget about her peanut butter and dried squid~! That one was gnarly, kyahahaha~!"

Mio looked at Marin and asked, "How was it? That sounds delicious to me!"

Marin laughed even harder as she imagined Orihime and Mio eating disgusting things together and enjoying every last bite.

"Why are you laughing? I haven't been able to eat much lately and I would very much like to eat with this Orihime girl."

Mio wasn't lying either. The last time she got to eat anything too crazy was back in the Cradle during the 7 month timeskip.

Ever since then, she's just been eating whatever David eats and never had the courage to ask him for anything that could be seen as weird.

"Anyway, I just think it would be fun to have her around, but I know it probably won't happen, at least not for a while."

"Why not for a while?" Toa asked, trying to join the conversation whenever possible.

"Hubby seems to meet new girls every time he goes out and he said he wanted to just stay inside until school starts. I think it's more likely that he won't meet any new girls if he just stays in, at least not until school starts. That's why I said 'not for a while'."

The girls all nodded in understanding.

"Okay, that conversation is over~! Who wants to place bets on who'll become the next wife between Sofia, Toa, and Shouko?" Marin asked with a mischievous grin.

"Haha~! Count me in!" Rangiku exclaimed, spilling her beer as she waved her arm around.

"I think Sofia has a higher chance," Isane said matter-of-factly.

"My money's on Toa. If she loses, I'll just take her back to her old world and train her in The Wasteland for a bit as a punishment," Tomoe chimed in, making Toa feel shivers run down her spine.

"I believe in Shouko, she's already closer than the other two by a mile," Mio added.

"What if it's another girl first?" Yoruichi asked.

Marin was stunned for a moment, but then she said, "In that case, you'd win, heheh~!"

The girls all laughed and talked more about the likelihood of who would be first, but nobody actually thought that Yoruichi would be the winner.

...

At Haneda Airport, five girls were leaving baggage claim with exhausted expressions on their faces as they chased after a sixth girl.

"Mika, wait!" An older girl around 19 years old called out.

She had shoulder-length orange hair with a single ponytail that was a bit longer than the rest of her hair that went over her left shoulder, purple eyes, a beautiful face, and a slim 170 cm tall figure that emphasized her D-cup breasts.

She was wearing a black grey-striped turtleneck, waist-high light denim shorts, golden dangle bar earrings, and three thin golden bracelets on her left wrist.

She was in the lead of the other four girls and was trying her best to catch up with the girl in front of her, Mika.

"Mika!"

After Mika was stopped by a large group of people, she came to a halt, allowing the orange-haired girl to finally catch up. The orange-haired girl grabbed Mika by the shoulder and turned her around to face her.

Mika was just as beautiful as the orange-haired girl. She had long, bright blonde hair that reached the middle of her back, sparkling blue eyes, and a permanent facial expression that always made her look slightly sad.

She was 161 cm tall, had a thin build, and her C-cup breasts were well-hidden behind the sleeveless black sundress she was wearing, though the black lace choker on her neck gave her a dangerous and sexy look.

Her eyes looked red and puffy, like she had been crying for days and only recently got some relief.

"Let me go, Banri. We're finally back and I can finally go see him... If Ouka is that upset over me rushing, she can just stay behind. Sisters or not, none of you are going to stop me. Besides, we agreed that I get to be the first one to see him," Mika said monotonously.

The orange-haired girl, Banri, just hugged Mika and patted the back of her head gently.

"You don't know if he's the same one we've been looking for, okay? We've been looking intermittently for 10 years and we just don't want you to get your hopes up... None of us want to stop you, we just don't want to see you suffer anymore."

Banri, being the oldest sister, was very experienced and proficient in calming down her younger sisters.

Despite Mika's cold outer appearance and attitude, all the sisters know that she's the one that feels love the most and is equally the most vulnerable in certain situations.

Situations exactly like this one.

"...If I'm right, then I don't want to be late."

"Sweetie, it'll only be a few minutes faster at most and you'd be leaving the rest of us behind. Look," Banri said, pointing to the rest of her sisters trying to catch up.

"Kotono can barely breathe. You need to remember that you're stronger than other people your age, okay? Minami is the most athletic one out of us and she still can't keep up, not to mention Ouka who outperforms everyone else on the track team. We're still in public so you can't be revealing anything."

Mika looked to where Banri was pointing and saw her other sisters out of breath and struggling to move further.

There was a black-haired girl with bangs covering her left eye, Kotono. A pink-haired girl with twintails, Ouka. A green-haired girl with her hair cut short, Minami. And there was a bespectacled blue-haired girl with her hair flowing down to her butt, Seiha.

All of the sisters were absolutely gorgeous and they turned heads wherever they went.

Mika made eye-contact with Ouka and saw the pink-haired girl flare up in frustration, though she quickly calmed down as she remembered the situation.

"Let's just go. I feel like my heart is being squeezed in a vice every second longer that I have to wait," Mika said as she turned around, still speaking in her monotonous voice.

Despite speaking in monotone, Mika's voice was as beautiful as a Siren's song.

Banri just smiled, shook her head, and didn't say anything else as she followed behind Mika with the rest of her sisters.

As they were walking, Mika's head was full of nothing but David.

She was thinking about their past, how she died, how David's life probably turned out after she was gone, how her life is now, how his life must be now, what his wives might look like, what he ate for breakfast, what he might eat for dinner, how he probably looks now, how he smells, how he tastes, how his toothbrush tastes, how his underwear smells...

Mika's face remained expressionless and she didn't even blush as she thought about nothing other than David, just like she had for the past 15 years.

"He better be... who we're looking for... this time... Seeing her get her hopes up... only to have them crushed... pisses me off," Ouka muttered, feeling completely out of breath.

Kotono patted Ouka on the back in an attempt to cheer her up even though she was worse off and couldn't even speak.

"Chances are high he is. Combine the fact that Mika's existence is rather unique, we can hear his voice, and that he even said her old name nostalgically before, the only way it couldn't be him is if someone takes over his body right before we meet him," Seiha said, keeping her composure.

"Whatever... All I want to do... is to make sure Mika... can meet up with David..."

"Piece of cake!" Minami said, feeling another burst of energy. "He lives right next to us so it'll be easy! Hahaha, how coincidental is it that he moved in near us while we were in America?"

"I don't believe it to be a coincidence. I've noticed that no men live in the building except for David. Unless more men have moved in since we left, I'm positive he's the only one. He seems to know about multiple franchises and has said so himself that there are more than one franchise existing there as well. Therefore, I'm certain that somebody is pulling the strings behind the scenes, I just don't know if it's a bad thing or not."

⟪ Damn, lunch was amazing. I'm glad to see Komoe-chan and Rinon getting along, heheh. I wonder what it would've been like to have kids in my past life. Then again, who would I have had them with? Ellen? Amanda? Hm... Thinking back further, Mikayla probably would've been a good mother. ⟫

Mika stopped walking and froze in place, clenching her fists as she listened to the new broadcast.

⟪ Ugh, why the hell am I thinking of Mikayla all of a sudden? I'm happy now, I don't need to remember the past... I do miss having noodles with her though... I wish I had the power to save her back then, but I guess magic only exists in novels that you get reincarnated into... Haaa, alright, stop thinking about it and focus on cleaning, dammit. ⟫

Tears started forming in Mika's eyes as she looked back at her sisters with a slight smile on her face.

"It's him! I swear it's him!" She yelled, becoming more animated than she had in years.

Banri, Minami, Ouka, and Kotono were all stunned and didn't know what to say.

Seiha just pushed up her glasses and said, "Told you so."

Before Mika could break through the doors in the airport and run at an unbelievable speed, Banri placed a hand on her shoulder and held her tight.

"Mika, we need to think things through before doing anything rash, okay?"

Mika relaxed her tensed body and nodded her head.

"Right... I almost got carried away again... Thank you, Banri."

"We may not be blood-related, but we're sisters. I love each and every one of you and I want everyone to be happy. I don't want you to make a mistake and scare him off, okay?"

"...Okay."

Banri looked into Mika's eyes and instead of removing her hand from Mika's shoulder, she walked closer and wrapped her whole arm around Mika.

"Let's just walk like this, I'm feeling a bit tired and need your support," Banri lied.

She knows her sisters the best and she knew that if she released Mika, that crazy girl would expose her abilities and probably get herself hurt trying to break into David's home.

[Banri] 'I really hope she can control herself...'

Banri took a deep breath and looked back at her younger sisters, giving them a warning look.

Seeing how serious their oldest sister was being, the girls all did a weapons check.

Seiha reached up and felt the frost-blue gemstone pendant around her neck.

Ouka casually felt the cute pink hair ties holding her hair up in twintails.

Minami looked down to see the silver ankle bracelet still in place.

Kotono shyly poked the microphone-shaped hairpin holding her bangs in place over her left eye.

Once the check was done, they all nodded toward Banri who had just checked her own triple bracelets on her left arm.

[Banri] 'If she can't, I'll have to be the one that explains things to Rokujou-sensei.'

She shuddered at the thought of getting yelled at and being forced to do even more intensive training later if things went south.

[Banri] 'Ugh, please be good, Mika...'

---

(A/N: So... I wanted to not include these girls until a bit later, but... Mika's a tiny bit crazy and forced me to bring them in sooner.

I'm sorry... :X

Also, I tried making it obvious who these girls are and where they're from, but if you don't know yet, you'll find out soon.

Also also, yes, they're now part of a bigger franchise... I'm sure "Rokujou-sensei" gave it away. Again, if you don't know yet, you'll find out soon, heheh...

I've been full of energy and have been trying to push 1-2 chapters out a day. Hopefully that'll keep going because Mika and David's meeting is going to be rather interesting to say the least...

Please point out any obvious mistakes I make because I will 100% miss them for weeks at a time if at all. I was reading the earlier chapters because I was bored and found like, 5 mistakes in the first chapter I picked... So yeah... Author is big dumb and needs to be scolded...

Anyway, that's all from me. As always, thanks for reading this chaotic mess of 99% character interactions and 1% action... (eyes emoji)
