Chapter 200: Chapter 199: City of Stars

The next morning, Gilbert woke up and patted Naomi Watts, who was lying in his arms. He placed his hand on her waist but was quickly slapped away by Naomi.

"Stop it, let me sleep a little longer."

"Sleep? Get up and move around," Gilbert replied.

"Jerk, didn't you use too much strength last night?"

Naomi flipped over and continued sleeping, ignoring Gilbert.

Gilbert laughed heartily, got up, washed up, and went to the dining room for breakfast, checking the newspaper.

While eating breakfast and reading the paper, the entertainment section was dominated by The Sixth Sense. Most media outlets gave it widespread praise, with only a few picky ones pointing out trivial flaws, but Gilbert didn't care at all.

The promotional plan for The Sixth Sense was set for next week, and Gilbert would need to take the main cast on a nationwide tour of the major box office cities for publicity.

Thinking there was nothing else to do in the next couple of days, Gilbert decided to dress up and secretly watch his own movie to see the real reactions of the audience during the viewing.

Just then, Naomi Watts came downstairs for breakfast, and Gilbert took the opportunity to invite her: "Naomi, how about going to watch a movie with me this afternoon?"

"What movie?"

"Of course, it's my movie."

"Didn't we already watch it?" Naomi Watts asked, curious.

"I mainly want to see the audience's real reaction. The premiere is mostly full of fake praise," Gilbert explained.

"Alright then!" Naomi Watts thought of it as a date activity. The two of them dressed like a regular couple, went shopping, ate together, and kissed in the cinema.

She had always wanted to do this, but due to Gilbert's status and their relationship, it hadn't happened before.

In the afternoon, Gilbert and Naomi Watts, dressed casually, held hands and strolled around, just like any normal couple, kissing occasionally on the street.

Maybe their disguises were particularly convincing, or maybe Naomi's skills were just that good, but no one recognized them as the famous director Gilbert and top actress Naomi Watts.

"Wow, Gilbert, I'm so happy, it feels like I'm flying!" Naomi Watts said as she pulled Gilbert to the Ferris wheel at Santa Monica Beach.

As the Ferris wheel slowly ascended, the cityscape of Los Angeles unfolded in front of them, and Naomi Watts screamed with excitement.

Maybe it was the work stress lately, or maybe it was the rare one-on-one time with Gilbert, but Naomi Watts was genuinely happy.

"Be careful, don't fall down," Gilbert warned.

"It's fine, this door won't open…" Naomi Watts hopped into Gilbert's arms, her blue eyes gazing at him, and the two of them kissed.

When the Ferris wheel stopped, Naomi Watts was already weakly in Gilbert's arms.

Gilbert helped her, and the two walked into the cinema to watch The Sixth Sense.

On a Saturday afternoon, the cinema had a good attendance rate. Gilbert glanced around, and although it wasn't during peak hours, the theater was nearly full, proving that The Sixth Sense still had a good draw.

After finding their seats in the back, Gilbert focused on observing the audience's reactions. As the story progressed, it was clear that the viewers were immersed in the film.

Especially during the scene where Haley, playing Cole, has a conversation with his mother in the car, Gilbert saw many emotional fans wiping away tears.

"You're crying?" Gilbert turned to Naomi Watts, who was wiping her tears with his sleeve.

"It's so touching, isn't it normal to cry?" Naomi Watts replied, still sniffling.

When the scene where Bruce Willis's character, the doctor, bids farewell to his wife, Naomi Watts couldn't hold back and cried uncontrollably.

Gilbert helplessly hugged Naomi Watts. "Don't cry, don't cry, I'm right here with you!"

"Who knows if you'll still be around? When I'm old, maybe you won't like me anymore," Naomi Watts sobbed.

Maybe it was the romantic atmosphere of the evening, or maybe it was the rare moment to be vulnerable, but Naomi Watts let down her guard and expressed her true feelings.

She wanted to stay with Gilbert forever, but she knew that wasn't very realistic.

Gilbert kissed the corner of Naomi Watts's mouth, tasting her tears. He held her tightly, stroking her head as if he wanted to pull her into his embrace.

"Don't cry, darling. If you want, you can stay by my side forever," Gilbert said.

"Really?" Naomi Watts looked at him with tearful eyes.

"Of course," Gilbert nodded, then whispered something in her ear.

Naomi Watts couldn't help but laugh. "Oh, I didn't expect you to think that way. Well, wait until I'm in my thirties or forties, and we'll see if you're still interested in me."

As the movie gradually ended, Gilbert had completely forgotten about the audience's reactions. He spent the whole time flirting with Naomi Watts.

Maybe next time, he shouldn't bring Naomi Watts along—who knew she would be so easy to move?

That said, apart from Charlize Theron, who had a tougher heart, most of his women were softer.

Even Theron appeared tough in front of others but showed a more vulnerable side when with him. But due to her personality, she also had a bit of a boyish charm.

After the movie ended, Gilbert and Naomi Watts walked out of the theater hand in hand.

"How about we walk back holding hands?" Naomi Watts suddenly suggested.

"Such a long way? Walk all the way back?" Gilbert felt his legs trembling.

"Let's just walk! If we really can't, we'll call someone to pick us up…" Naomi Watts said coquettishly.

"Alright, alright, we'll walk back then!" Gilbert agreed, trying to fulfill Naomi Watts's wish.

Naomi Watts cheered and skipped ahead, waving back at Gilbert. "Gilbert, hurry up!"

In Los Angeles, luxury theaters were often where important film premieres took place, so reporters were never in short supply.

One reporter saw the scene and immediately pressed the shutter, capturing the moment. After Gilbert and Naomi Watts walked farther away, the reporter realized something.

"Was that? Gilbert and Naomi Watts? Are they on a date?" the reporter wondered, confirming his material.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to follow them discreetly.

As they walked, Gilbert began to feel something was off. "Naomi, this doesn't seem like the way home!"

"Just follow me, it's the best spot for a view. The color of the sky here can only be seen at seven in the evening," Naomi Watts said, pulling Gilbert along. "Hurry up, we're running out of time."

Gilbert, not understanding, was led to Griffith Park's Hollywood Hills and the Casey Point.

Gilbert recognized the scene immediately—it was one of the spots from La La Land. He had seen it before and remembered it clearly.

"Wow, look at the sky, Gilbert! The color, combined with the city lights, is so beautiful!" Naomi Watts shouted toward the valley below, her hands cupped around her mouth.

"It is beautiful," Gilbert agreed, nodding. He now understood why La La Land insisted on shooting on location—this view was unparalleled.

The sky at Casey Point around seven in the evening turned into a perfect, dreamy purple, and Los Angeles, with its dreamlike qualities, made it hard to ever want to wake up.

"Naomi, suddenly a song and a movie popped into my mind," Gilbert said.

"What song? What movie?" Naomi Watts asked.

"I don't remember exactly, but it went something like this: City of Stars, are you shining just for me? City of Stars, with all this splendor, I'm overwhelmed…"

Gilbert sang the lines earnestly, but Naomi Watts couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Ha ha ha, Gilbert, your singing is terrible!"

"Uh, what can I do? I can't sing," Gilbert said helplessly.

"Hahaha, but I've never heard those lyrics before," Naomi Watts asked, curious.

"Uh, don't mind the details. The sky looks great. Let's dance!" Gilbert quickly changed the subject.

"Here?" Naomi Watts asked.

"Right here, and it's a perfect time for me to check how well you've learned to dance and sing."

They danced under the streetlights, embracing each other without music, surrounded by the dreamy purple sky.

The reporter, who had followed them, couldn't resist taking pictures and capturing the moment.

The photos were so beautiful. Gilbert and Naomi Watts had found the perfect place for a date. The reporter thought, Next time I'll bring my girlfriend here.

The sound of the camera startled the two as they danced. They looked over at the reporter.

The reporter, feeling embarrassed, apologized. "Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. This scene was so beautiful, I just had to capture it.

Can I keep these photos and publish them in the newspaper?"

"Your thoughts?" Gilbert asked Naomi Watts.

Seeing Naomi nod, Gilbert turned to the reporter. "Of course, just make sure to give us a few copies as a keepsake."

The reporter was overjoyed. "Of course, sir! I won't disturb your date anymore. I'll send you the photos as soon as they're developed."

The reporter left happily, and Naomi Watts leaned on Gilbert's arm, feeling blissful. "When Michelle and Charlize see this, they'll probably be jealous. Have you thought about how to calm them down?"

"Calm them down? I'll use my male charm to conquer them…"

"You have male charm?" Naomi Watts was skeptical. "I don't believe it…"

"Don't believe it? Well, just wait and see…"

After the movie, Gilbert had completely forgotten the audience's reactions and only remembered the City of Stars and the romantic date with Naomi Watts.

When they got back, Naomi Watts excitedly described the date, making Cameron Diaz and Charlize Theron envious.

The two of them had their revenge on Gilbert, making sure he couldn't get out of bed, but ultimately, it was Gilbert who ended up teaching them a lesson.

Despite it all, Gilbert was still very caring toward his women.

Gilbert promised to take Cameron Diaz on a vacation to New Zealand during his time off, and Charlize Theron would have plenty of time to be with him in the next project.

The next day, a reporter from The Los Angeles Morning News published an article about his interview with the audience of The Sixth Sense. The second page featured a photo of Gilbert and Naomi Watts kissing at Casey Point.

He had heard those lyrics from Gilbert, and so he titled the photo: City of Stars.
