Chapter 1157: 1156 Bold Confession
Just a few steps away, yet the Kansas City Chiefs players looked at Li Wei like mice seeing a cat, standing at attention and quickly diverting their eyesight, fearing they would fall under Li Wei's radar and vanish without a trace the next second.
In this atmosphere, Hill moved the fastest.
Even before Li Wei got close, he quickly distanced himself and stood up in one swift motion, looking at the ceiling and speaking in a deadpan voice like artificial intelligence.
"Wow. New York's weather is great. That cloud is so pretty."
Averting his gaze, as if he hadn't seen Li Wei at all, he muttered to himself and scurried away, fearing he'd be devoured by the Tigers if he moved even a little slower.
Kelsey was left alone, sitting in the same row with Thalia, and seeing Li Wei approaching, he hastily said a couple of words to Thalia, awkwardly stood up, "Rookie, you're here, th-then I'll leave you guys to it; I remember the coach calling me just now."
"Patrick, the coach called me, right?"
Mahomes, "Nope, when?"
Kelsey, "No, you must have misremembered, the coach did call me."
Mahomes: ???
Kelsey didn't give Mahomes a chance to rebut, pulling Mahomes with him as he quickly walked away, awkwardly exclaiming, "I wonder what the coach wants, haha. Haha."
The onlookers scattered away like birds and beasts, leaving the area around Thalia suddenly empty.
However, they didn't go far, each one pricking up their ears to eavesdrop.
Li Wei stopped his steps in front of Thalia, not rushing to speak. He scanned around, and the group of people, feeling the piercing gaze of death upon them, let out startled yelps and dispersed like startled birds.
Finally, it was quiet.
This scene made Thalia chuckle, her whole body shaking with laughter.
A hint of a smile appeared in Li Wei's eyes, "They didn't bully you, right?"
Thalia managed to compose herself, nodding earnestly, "Don't worry, I didn't bully them."
Li Wei nodded along, "That's good, I'm a bit relieved; otherwise, they would report to their mommies."
Thalia burst out laughing again, a rosy blush spreading across her cheeks, making her look adorable.
Li Wei finally had time to ask, "What brings you to the airport?"
Thalia tilted her head, staring at Li Wei with a playful glint in her eyes, "How do you know I didn't come here just to see you?"
Li Wei choked, letting out a silent laugh, "So, did you come here specifically to see me?"
Thalia widened her eyes in surprise, slightly opening her mouth, "Of course not! I didn't expect you to be so narcissistic." She shook her head, displaying an expression of faux distress.
Li Wei didn't expect to be caught like this, seeing the bright gleam in Thalia's eyes, a mischievous excitement glowing brightly.
Instead of being flustered, Li Wei played along, "Oh, did you only just realize it? Professional athletes and actors are both narcissistic professions; no one loves themselves more than we do. You should check out Cristiano Ronaldo's wall of photos."
Initially surprised, then bursting into laughter, unable to stop, Thalia's act cracked, her nose wrinkled slightly, shaking her head repeatedly, "No wonder everyone calls you the professor, you're not easily fooled at all."
Hmph!
Thalia let out a small huff, but it lasted less than half a second before the smile in her eyes reappeared.
"Actually, I'm heading to Los Angeles for an audition."
Li Wei slightly raised his chin, realization dawning upon him; he almost forgot Thalia was an actor, "Congratulations, you're about to make it to the big screen."
Thalia rarely showed a bit of shyness and nervousness, "It's just an audition, not a role yet; I don't know how many people are auditioning."
Li Wei, "I believe you can get the role."
Thalia slightly froze, looking up at Li Wei, her shifting pupils revealing her uncertainty, clearly understanding that Hollywood wasn't that simple.
Li Wei looked steadily at Thalia, nodding once more, "I'm serious. I think you should be on the big screen, no, I believe it. I believe that day will soon come."
"By then, I'll be shouting Thalia, Thalia, please give me your autograph, and you mustn't pretend not to know me."
Light-hearted yet unwavering.
Thalia felt her heart skip a beat, her cheeks suddenly burning, with that kind of shyness and thrill swelling immensely in her chest.
"So, has she changed?"
Without thinking, the words escaped Thalia's mind, directed at Li Wei.
Immediately regretting it, she inwardly held onto a sliver of hope, staring unmovingly at Li Wei, anticipating his answer.
Li Wei was briefly stunned, she? Who?
"Who?" Li Wei asked.
Thalia, "Your girlfriend."
Li Wei, "Huh?"
When did he have a girlfriend, and why didn't the person in question know?
Thalia's cheeks were almost on fire, "Ariana Grande, didn't you two publicly acknowledge your relationship in the last game?"
Li Wei hadn't anticipated this plot twist, his smile blooming brightly, "No, we're just friends. Don't listen to Travis's nonsense; it's just a locker room joke. We're purely just friends."
Thalia awkwardly shifted her gaze, the thundering sound of her heartbeat reverberating in her eardrums, "Really? Or are you like James Bond, having a friend here, a friend there, a friend in every city worldwide, but they're not your girlfriends."
Poof.
Li Wei laughed out loud, "Thalia, are you comparing me to James Bond now? Oh, the honor is mine. I never knew I had such charm; perhaps I should try my luck in Hollywood."
Thalia turned her head again to look at Li Wei, her eyes landing back on his smiling face, "Every man dreams of being 007, no one can resist."
Her half-smiling eyes carried a hint of teasing before she changed the subject.
"Based on your response, you didn't deny it, so I guess you really are that kind of friend."
Li Wei quietly watched Thalia, their gazes intercepting in the air. Only then did Li Wei realize Thalia wasn't joking.
He was somewhat surprised.
But Li Wei still cracked a joke, "Thalia, if you say this, people will get the wrong idea, you look like you're jealous."
Thalia's cheeks immediately heated up, her eyes flickering as if caught in the act, but she didn't avoid or dodge; instead, she mustered her courage.
"What if I am?"
