Don’t Mess with the Puppy!

chapter 0 - Prologue

Yoon Chiyoung recently regained energy in his otherwise dull life.

It was the vitality that came after raising a puppy.
A puppy that bit him thoroughly every day without holding back. A puppy that destroyed his clothes and valuables or dunked them in water, sneezed deliberately on his face, and wagged its tail only for pretty girls.
Woof! Woof!

“What are you saying? You like me that much? Want to go home quickly?”
Sometimes, when he asked his subordinate in the dog tribe what it meant,
“Yes, Director... it’s saying, ‘You son of a bitch.’”

“Ha, so damn cute... Alright, let’s go home quickly and be alone together.”
Even when it cursed, the puppy was adorable.
Yoon Chiyoung didn’t care that his fingers were covered in scratches or that his phone shattered into pieces after falling from the 27th floor of his apartment—he liked the puppy. He liked how it stole his food and left traces on the white fur around its mouth, ✧ NоvеIight ✧ (Original source) proudly so; he liked its coyness, acting friendly only in front of food.

At first, honestly, he just enjoyed teasing it, but later he came to like its soft, warm body. Then he fell for the way it used its small brain to torment him. Afterward, when he got used to being alone, he treasured the puppy when it pressed its warm backside against him in his arms.
But then.
“......”

Yoon Chiyoung found his puppy in a dark alley.
After only a month of raising it, it had finally run away, appearing bloodied after just one day.
Its dirty white fur was matted with blood, and its soft tongue hung limply between its parted jaws. Even when he called its name, there was no response, and its body temperature was rapidly cooling.

With a face that looked like it was about to collapse, Yoon Chiyoung embraced the white puppy.
“Puppy...”
“......”

“…Why did you go out alone?”
If it hated him, it could have just kept bothering him by his side, but it had to show up hurt and tear his heart apart. He wanted to tell it that, finally, it made him suffer just as it wanted, but there was no reaction even when he held it close.
“Why…”
In the end, Yoon Chiyoung showed tears. It was a sight unimaginable on the first day he met the puppy.

He had only wanted to tease the puppy who disliked him.
He never wanted it to become something he cherished more than himself, like now.
