Doraemon: Reborn As Dekisugi

Chapter 34: Chapter 32: Visiting Shizuka's House [Part 2]

Dekisugi carefully put away the homework he had completed and took out his drawings along with some tools he had brought along. Although he had considered bringing a drawing board, the size and inconvenience of carrying it had deterred him. Still, he figured he could manage fine without it since his hands were steady from years of drawing manga.

Shizuka noticed him setting up and walked over with a curious expression. "Dekisugi, do you need a drawing board? I have one at home. I really like drawing too, and I use it often in the park."

Dekisugi looked up, surprised but pleased by her suggestion. "Oh, really? That would be great, Shizuka. Thank you! It'll make things much easier." He smiled warmly, watching as she turned to fetch it. Shizuka's thoughtful gesture made him feel at ease, and he couldn't help but admire her kindness.

When Shizuka returned with the drawing board, she handed it to him with a cheerful smile. "Here you go, Dekisugi. I hope this helps!"

Dekisugi nodded, setting it up. "It's perfect, Shizuka. Thank you so much." Seeing her standing there with such an earnest expression, he chuckled softly. "You're always so considerate. It's really nice." His compliment made Shizuka blush slightly, and she sat down nearby to watch him draw.

Meanwhile, back at Nobita's house, he was sprawled on the tatami mat, his face twisted in frustration. He had finally finished copying all his homework, an ordeal that felt more exhausting than anything else.

"Ugh, I'm so tired," Nobita groaned, stretching his arms above his head. "Why hasn't Doraemon come back yet? I should hide this gadget before he returns, or he'll just take it away again." He glanced nervously at the see-through stickers and the observation machine on the floor beside him.

Doraemon had always been cautious about lending gadgets to Nobita, knowing his propensity for getting into trouble. This time, however, Doraemon had seemingly forgotten about the see-through stickers, giving Nobita free rein to use them—for better or worse.

Bored, Nobita stared at the observation machine, an idea suddenly sparking in his mind. "Wait a minute! I can use this to look at Shizuka's diary. Didn't I stick those see-through stickers on her schoolbag? I wonder what she's written in there." Excited by the prospect, he jumped to his feet and started fiddling with the machine.

He scanned through the contents of her bag, grumbling as textbooks appeared on the screen. "Mandarin, arithmetic… Ugh, why is it all just school stuff? How boring!" He huffed, scratching his head in frustration. But then, his eyes lit up when the screen revealed a blue diary.

"Found it!" Nobita exclaimed, only for his excitement to dissipate moments later. His face fell as he read the name on the cover. "Wait… this isn't Shizuka's diary. It's Dekisugi's!"

Nobita's jealousy flared. He slammed his hand down on the machine and scowled. "Dekisugi and Shizuka exchanged diaries? Are you kidding me?! That's so unfair!" His mind raced with bitter thoughts as he imagined their interaction.

Meanwhile, back at Shizuka's house, she sat beside Dekisugi, watching him work on his manga. She leaned closer, studying the intricate details of his drawings. "Dekisugi, your manga is so beautiful," she said with genuine admiration. "And those Digimon you drew are adorable. How do you come up with these ideas?"

Dekisugi's face lit up at her praise. "Thank you, Shizuka. Hearing that from you really boosts my confidence." He paused to add a few more lines to his drawing. "I think I can finish this tonight. Tomorrow, I'll show you the completed pages. Let me know what you think, okay?"

Shizuka nodded eagerly. "I'm really looking forward to it! Will you submit it to a publisher after that?"

"That's the plan," Dekisugi replied, smiling. "I've already picked out a publishing house—Baiquan Publishing. They seem like a good fit."

The two continued chatting as they shared snacks and drinks. It was a pleasant, relaxing break after their respective tasks, and Shizuka found herself enjoying Dekisugi's company more than ever.

Back at Nobita's house, his frustration had reached its peak. "Shizuka's never exchanged diaries with me," he muttered bitterly. "Why does Dekisugi get to do all these things with her?" Tears welled up in his eyes as he scribbled angrily on the observation machine's screen, writing "Dekisugi is a big idiot" and drawing crude faces to vent his jealousy. Eventually, his emotions wore him out, and he fell asleep on the tatami mat, tears still clinging to his lashes.

As evening approached, Dekisugi glanced at the time and began packing up his things. The sky outside had grown dim, and the smell of dinner wafted up from the kitchen. He turned to Shizuka with a grateful smile.

"Shizuka, it's getting late. I should head home now," he said, standing up.

Shizuka walked him to the door, and as they passed the kitchen, they both greeted her mother, who was busy preparing dinner. Shizuka's mother smiled warmly but didn't offer to set another plate; it was clear the family's meal was already planned. Understanding this, Dekisugi said his goodbyes and stepped out into the cool evening air.

As he walked home, Dekisugi felt a sense of contentment. The time spent with Shizuka had been enjoyable and productive, and he looked forward to showing her the finished manga the next day. Little did he know, Nobita's jealousy was simmering, ready to boil over in the days to come.
