Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Losing Both the Lady and the Battle
"I'll show you what I'm really capable of," Nobita muttered, eyes glistening with tears as he rifled through his deck of transformation cards. "The Tyrannosaurus card... this one's perfect."
His expression shifted from fury to glee. A crooked smile crept across his face.
Sliding the card into the device, he began to imagine the scene in vivid detail Hiro and the others fleeing in terror from a rampaging T-Rex, only for him to appear just in time to save them. He would rescue Shizuka like a true hero and win her heart.
"Wait... if I turn into the dinosaur, I can't exactly be the hero."
He paused, frowning.
"I'll ask Doraemon to play the part of the T-Rex instead."
Smug with his brilliant plan, Nobita tossed the transformation circle aside and finally found his missing swim trunks. After putting them on, he headed toward the beach, fully intending to convince Doraemon to take part in his scheme.
What he didn't realize was that, after he left, a small lizard happened to scurry across the gadget. The little creature unknowingly stepped into the transformation ring and began to grow at an alarming rate.
"Nobita, there you are!" Gian called from the beach as he shaped a sandcastle with Suneo. "We saved some food for you. Come grab it before it's gone."
But Nobita didn't need their pity. Their leftovers meant nothing to him. His gaze fixed instead on Hiro, who was up in a palm tree, picking coconuts for Shizuka. Envy flared in his chest.
"Doraemon, come with me for a second."
Without waiting for a reply, Nobita grabbed the lounging robot cat and dragged him into the nearby woods.
He whispered his plan, but Doraemon frowned and crossed his arms.
"Nobita, you can't keep doing this. You're always using my gadgets to cause trouble. I'm not helping you this time."
"Why not, Doraemon?" Nobita pleaded. "Don't you want Shizuka to like me?"
"This isn't about romance. You're just trying to cheat again. I'm not going along with it."
Their argument quickly escalated, neither side backing down.
Frustrated and angry that Doraemon wouldn't help with such a "simple favor," Nobita lunged forward and began tugging on his friend's head in protest.
Just then, something massive stirred above them.
From behind a tree, a large red head slowly emerged, hot breath steaming through its nostrils.
"ROAR!!"
A towering Tyrannosaurus burst out, jaws wide open and drool dripping from its sharp teeth. Each heavy step it took sent tremors through the ground.
"Wha-what the heck?! Doraemon, what's going on?!"
Nobita froze in place, eyes wide with horror.
"How should I know? Whatever happened, we need to RUN!"
Doraemon grabbed Nobita by the collar and bolted. In the panic, he couldn't even pull out the right gadget.
Meanwhile, the others heard the deafening roar from across the beach.
From the edge of the trees burst Doraemon, dragging a limp, terrified Nobita behind him. And close behind them was the massive dinosaur, stomping after them with terrifying speed.
"A dinosaur?! Everyone, run for it!" Gian screamed.
He and Suneo bolted in opposite directions, tripping over themselves to get away. Suneo's swim trunks nearly flew off in the rush, but under the circumstances, no one cared.
In moments like these, you could truly feel how small humans were barely the size of one of its claws.
Hiro also froze for a moment, his legs turning to jelly. But seeing Gian race past him snapped him back to his senses.
He spun around.
Shizuka was still standing there, dazed and petrified.
His heart sank.
He didn't hesitate. Scooping her into his arms, he took off running in a full sprint. Fortunately, daily exercise had made him strong. Shizuka felt as light as cotton, and his feet barely touched the ground as he carried her.
"Help!!" someone yelled from behind. The T-Rex was closing in fast.
Gian and Suneo dashed into the ocean, trying anything to escape its reach.
The sound of heavy breathing and snapping jaws sent a chill down Shizuka's spine. Her face turned bright red. Despite her efforts to stay composed, her body trembled uncontrollably from fear.
She pressed her legs together, but the panic overwhelmed her.
A soft cry escaped her lips.
Her pale yellow swimwear clung tightly to her skin, and though Hiro couldn't see what had happened, a faint scent hit his nose. It wasn't unpleasant just surprisingly innocent.
"Shizuka... did you...?"
Still running, Hiro glanced down. A strange warmth touched his stomach.
The situation was awkward uncomfortably so but he didn't stop.
"I... I'm sorry..." Shizuka whispered, covering her face in embarrassment. "This is so humiliating... I can't even look at you."
Her voice trembled, and her whole body radiated shame.
"It's fine. Really," Hiro reassured her, scanning ahead. "Wait... I think I see a cave by the cliff. Let's go!"
With the T-Rex practically breathing down his neck, Hiro's instincts kicked in. He pushed forward with everything he had.
At the last second, he dove into the cave with a sliding move, narrowly avoiding the dinosaur's snapping jaws.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The T-Rex smashed its massive head against the cliffside, shaking loose dust and rocks. But the cave held strong.
"ROAR!!"
Frustrated, the dinosaur gave one last roar, then stomped away.
"I... I think we're safe," Hiro panted, leaning against the stone wall, drenched in sweat. His heart was pounding.
All of this... because of Nobita's idiotic plan and some random gadget gone haywire.
"Ah... you... touched me!" Shizuka suddenly squeaked.
Now that they were no longer in danger, Hiro's senses finally returned. He realized where his hand had ended up.
"Sorry! The cave's just really narrow. There's no room to move!"
"I know..." Shizuka's cheeks turned scarlet. She tried to scoot back, but the small space only made things worse.
Her soft breath caught in her throat.
Leaning against Hiro's chest, feeling the warmth of his heartbeat and the faint thrill of the rescue, Shizuka found herself overwhelmed. It was the classic damsel-in-distress moment, cheesy but undeniably effective.
Her heart fluttered wildly. Her gaze sparkled.
Hiro noticed. He wasn't oblivious.
It was a dangerous signal.
But... why resist?
"Thanks, Nobita," he thought silently. "You actually gave me the perfect opportunity. Praise Minos."
He leaned down and pressed his lips gently against hers.
Shizuka didn't pull away. Her eyes widened briefly, then slowly closed. The kiss was innocent, awkward, and impossibly sweet.
Her lips were soft and cool, like jelly candy.
After a long moment, Hiro whispered, "Shizuka... I like you."
As someone who knew how to seize the moment, he had no intention of wasting this one.
"I... I like you too, Hiro," she replied, barely audible.
Her voice trembled like a summer breeze. Her cheeks were flushed, her entire body warm. She didn't know how to say no or maybe she didn't want to.
Time passed. The fifteen-minute effect wore off, and the giant T-Rex shrank back into a harmless little lizard.
The island was peaceful once again.
Doraemon and the others began searching for Hiro and Shizuka.
"Shizuka! Where are you?!" Nobita shouted, his voice hoarse from panic.
He was deeply worried, terrified that Shizuka had been eaten by the monster.
Just as he was about to call out again, a strange heaviness fell over him. His heart twisted sharply in his chest, filled with a pain he couldn't explain.
Somewhere deep inside... something had been lost.
