Chapter 1 - Prologue - part 2

Prologue part 2

Despite the early hours, I found the campus full of life. Students were buzzing through the school grounds, making the school’s clean hallways, and towering buildings shine brighter. Hmm, what’s the special occasion? I don’t know what was welling up inside of me, curiosity about how energy-filled the campus was, or a tinge of fear that I might have missed an important announcement. Everywhere my eyes landed, the same scenes were present. Students were huddled in one place, sometimes scattered in other areas, but they all looked excited about something. Waiting for a big announcement to come through. Before I realized it, I wandered through the campus and my legs led me to the school cafeteria. Its walls had a porcelain shade with sleek black strips starting from the top and going down in a diagonal line. All the tables were in geometric shapes pieced together like a puzzle to form long columns throughout the place. They were a contrasting bright yellow compared to the main color of the cafeteria. At least there aren’t too many people here… Unlike everywhere else, the cafeteria was generally quiet. I guess this is the perfect time to ask around about what’s happening. Wouldn’t want to be left in the dark for too long!

I just stood there, looking around and turning in semicircles searching for at least one familiar face. Seriously.. don’t know anyone here. I could use more friends. Or just acquaintances at least! Having decided to give up the search here, I feel a pat on my shoulder and I feel my hopes get up once more as I turn around to look behind me.

“Hello, hi, and good morning! Looking you like you don’t know what’s going on either, huh?” She greets me with a smile, one that I’ve found familiarity with since our childhood, while not even bothering to stifle her soft chuckles between sentences. “And it looks like you don’t as well.” I reply, letting my tone dip down a bit sending my words through with mock sarcasm. “Huh- Hey! I’m not as clueless as you, Levi!” My friend puffed up her cheeks, and huffed at my face, “I do know what’s going on.” The pout on her face made me want to bully her more, but I can save that for later. “Then would you mind to enlighten this ‘clueless’ friend of yours?”
