Chapter 59: Chapter 58: Soto Great Soul Arena (Part 2)
After briefly skipping over this small interruption, Flender continued, "The soul power level of a Soul Master is a sign of their strength, and soul rings are the best way to showcase that power. However, this does not truly represent a Soul Master's actual strength. Only through personal effort and the title earned in the Great Soul Arena can the true power of a Soul Master be reflected."
"Any Soul Master, regardless of their level, will be represented simply by the term 'Dousoul' when they enter the Great Soul Arena. After their first victory, they will receive a badge, and with each subsequent victory, they will earn points. Once their points reach a certain level, the badge will level up."
"This badge is a symbol of a Soul Master's rank in the Great Soul Arena, and it is recognized in all major cities across the continent. There are many advantages to having a high-level badge, but I won't go into all the details. The lowest level is the Iron Badge. Moving up, we have the Copper, Silver, Gold, Purple Gold, Sapphire, Ruby, and Diamond badges. There are a total of eight levels."
"May I ask, Flender, what level of badge do you have?" Chu Chengzhou asked curiously.
Flender: "..."
Did I ask you to question me about this?
Would I really tell you that I'm a Gold Badge?
Although a Gold Badge isn't bad, what if you surpass it in the future? Where would that leave my reputation?
Flender shot a dissatisfied glance at Chu Chengzhou and then scanned the other three in turn, pausing slightly longer on Xiao Wu before saying, "Your task is to earn at least a Silver Badge before graduation. Don't think it's easy to get the Silver Badge. Mu Bai and Hong Jun have already participated in many battles here."
"Mu Bai, Hong Jun, tell them the requirements for leveling up the badges here and share your battle records."
Though Mu Bai was reluctant to speak to Chu Chengzhou, it was Flender's request, so he couldn't refuse. He put on a serious face and said, "I started participating in the Soto Great Soul Arena's battles when I was a 29th-level Great Soul Master. So far, I've fought 29 battles, with a record of 15 wins and 14 losses, earning 1 point."
"To level up from Iron Badge to Copper Badge, you need 100 points. Each victory in a battle earns you one point, but losing a battle will deduct some points. If you have a winning streak of five battles, the points for each consecutive victory will increase by 10. If you reach a streak of ten victories, each additional win will grant 100 points."
"Even if you reach Copper Dousoul, if your points drop by 100, you will lose your Copper Badge rank. To level up from Copper to Silver Badge, you need 1,000 points. For battles between Copper Badge-ranked Soul Masters, each win gives you 10 points, and losing deducts 10 points. The streak bonuses are the same as for Badge."
"In other words, a newcomer needs to win 19 consecutive battles to obtain the Silver Badge Badge."
"Is that really that bad?" Xiao Wu couldn't help but comment.
"Hmph, the Great Soul Arena isn't an easy place to navigate!" Mu Bai replied with some annoyance.
"There are three types of battles in the Great Soul Arena: one is called 'the Game,' which is a sparring match, just as I mentioned earlier. The battles here are tiered, so even if you are a 31st-level Soul Master, you might face a 39th-level Soul Master."
"I had a low soul power level at the time, and when I fought, I often faced opponents who were several levels higher than me, so naturally, it was difficult to win," Mu Bai added, looking disgruntled.
"Blaming the difference in soul power is just an excuse. The truth is, you were just weak. I, a 29th-level Great Soul Master, could easily defeat a 3-ring Soul Master like you," Chu Chengzhou sneered.
"You—!" Mu Bai was furious.
"What's wrong? Am I not speaking the truth? Your White Tiger martial soul is a top-tier martial soul, and your soul rings are perfectly matched. How many 3-ring Soul Masters in the Great Soul Arena can compare to you? With your record, you still dare to say your opponents were too strong?" Chu Chengzhou's disdain grew.
Hearing Chu Chengzhou's taunting, Mu Bai clenched his fists tightly. If he didn't know he wasn't a match for Chu Chengzhou, he would have rushed up to beat him up. But for now, he held back to avoid humiliation.
"Alright, stop talking so much!" Flender shot Chu Chengzhou a glare.
He didn't understand why Chu Chengzhou had such a strong animosity towards Mu Bai. Every chance he got, he would taunt him. Did the two have some sort of grudge that Flender didn't know about?
In fact, other than the robbery incident from the day before, the two didn't have any other conflicts.
However, Chu Chengzhou knew that as long as he still coveted the "Yorong" lady, his relationship with Mu Bai would always be antagonistic. Since they were enemies, he wouldn't pass up any opportunity to strike.
"We've gone over the rules of the Great Soul Arena, and now that it's almost time, let's head over there. I'll explain the rest when we arrive," Flender said, taking out five copper coins to pay for the tea and leading the group toward the Soto Great Soul Arena.
As they got closer, the overwhelming sense of awe from the Great Soul Arena became even more pronounced.
The Soto Great Soul Arena was an elliptical structure, standing at over 120 meters tall. Inside, there was a main arena and 24 sub-arenas, capable of accommodating up to 60,000 spectators.
This place wasn't just for Soul Masters to spar and exchange skills; it was also where various factions could showcase their strength.
As they walked toward the Soto Great Soul Arena, Flender briefly explained some of the remaining details to the group.
There were three types of battles in the arena: one was the regular sparring match, which was a friendly competition where killing wasn't allowed. Another was the life-or-death battle, used to settle irreconcilable disputes. The final type was the gambling battle, where the Great Soul Arena acted as the referee. Both sides would send out the same number of Soul Masters to fight, and the winning side would claim everything agreed upon in the bet.
Gambling battles were often used by nobles and Soul Master families to resolve major conflicts, or to deal with people who had created those conflicts.
The battles themselves could be one-on-one, two-on-two, or, the most exciting, team battles. For team battles, the number of participants was typically negotiated between the two sides, but according to the rules of the Great Soul Arena, it was usually between seven and ten people.
