"Alright! I happen to have some free time lately, so I can take you to the Star Dou Forest."
Flander didn't ask any more questions and agreed immediately. After all, it was his responsibility as the dean to help students hunt soul beasts for their advancement.
"How about we leave now?"
Chu Chengzhou tested the waters.
"Are you in such a rush to get yourself killed? Don't you think I have a lot of things to arrange at the academy?" Flander rolled his eyes.
"So, Dean Flander, what exactly is there that needs your arrangement at the academy?" Chu Chengzhou immediately countered.
Flander: "..."
It seemed... there really wasn't anything that needed his attention?
...
After breakfast, Chu Chengzhou packed some supplies into his storage necklace and said goodbye to Xiao Wu. He then followed Flander as they set off for the Star Dou Forest.
Flander didn't bring any other students along this time, as their goal was to hunt soul beasts that were around five to six thousand years old. Such beasts were rare in the outer regions of the Star Dou Forest, so they would have to venture into the inner areas.
The inner areas of the forest were home to soul beasts that were ten thousand years old, which were not suitable for students who were only around the third-ring Soul Master level at best.
As a flight-type Soul Saint, and with only Chu Chengzhou accompanying him, Flander didn't take the 11th bus to the Star Dou Forest. Instead, he simply carried Chu Chengzhou and flew directly there.
The Star Dou Forest wasn't far from Shrek Academy, and by noon, Flander had already brought Chu Chengzhou to the outer edge of the inner regions of the forest.
At this point, Flander dared not continue flying in the sky with Chu Chengzhou. He descended directly into the forest below.
In the Star Dou Forest, flying soul masters were not the rulers of the skies; flying soul beasts were. Flander didn't want to draw attention and risk being taught a lesson by a flying soul beast.
Although Flander's strength wasn't weak, it wasn't enough to take on many of the soul beasts in the Star Dou Forest. If they were unlucky enough to encounter a high-year flying soul beast or a group of flying beasts, Flander might be able to escape, but Chu Chengzhou would likely perish in the forest.
"Listen up, kid. The Star Dou Forest isn't just a regular hunting ground for soul beasts. It's extremely dangerous here, and you could be attacked by a thousand-year or even ten-thousand-year soul beast at any moment. Don't wander too far from me."
After landing, Flander sternly reminded Chu Chengzhou.
"Mm, I know!" Chu Chengzhou nodded. He was well aware of the dangers of the Star Dou Forest.
Even a Title Douluo could meet their end here. As a mere 30th-level quasi-Soul Venerable, he had to be extremely cautious.
"Alright, let's take a break, eat some dry food, and then we'll head out to find the soul beasts you need."
Flander waved his hand.
Chu Chengzhou nodded slightly and took out a bag of dried meat from his storage necklace, chewing on it while sharing some with Flander.
"Tsk~ It's a pity we didn't bring Oscar along," Flander said nostalgically as he drank some water and chewed on the dried meat.
Having a food-type soul master as a teammate would be incredibly convenient when traveling.
Not to mention, they wouldn't have to worry about food supplies, and soul power food could do more than just fill their stomachs.
For example, Oscar's large sausages not only filled their bellies but also helped recover stamina and heal injuries.
"Oscar's sausages? Dean Flander, I think you should teach him how to make them without chanting a spell. Otherwise, his sausages are a bit hard to swallow," Chu Chengzhou couldn't help but tease as he remembered Oscar's quirky soul technique chant and the greasy expression and tone he used while making them.
"You can make it without chanting a spell?" Flander was surprised. He had always thought that food-type soul masters had to use incantations to create soul food.
After all, Oscar did, and Shao Xin, a food-type Soul Sage, also did the same.
"Well, theoretically, it's possible! Soul masters use their soul techniques by relying on their martial soul, soul skills, and soul power. Other soul masters don't need to chant to use their techniques, so theoretically, food-type soul masters should be able to do the same."
"You should let Oscar practice his soul power control when you get back. Maybe one day he won't need to chant when making sausages."
In Chu Chengzhou's view, the need for chants in soul techniques used by auxiliary and food-type soul masters was due to their insufficient control over their soul power. This problem was easy to solve—just learn how to control the soul power.
However, any skills he had gained through his own methods, except for his family and soon-to-be family, he wouldn't share with others.
Oscar wasn't his relative, so a little suggestion would suffice. There was no need to teach him the real skills.
"Is that so?"
After hearing Chu Chengzhou's theory, Flander raised an eyebrow. It seemed like the kid might have a point?
Well, when they got back, he'd let Oscar try it. If it didn't work, no harm done—at worst, it would be a waste of time. After all, Oscar was usually free anyway.
Just then, distant sounds of fighting reached their ears.
"Be careful!" Flander quickly warned, becoming alert.
This was the Star Dou Forest, where danger lurked at every corner. With an extra person like Chu Chengzhou around, Flander couldn't afford to be careless.
Without needing Flander to say more, Chu Chengzhou immediately put away his dried meat and drew out his Thousand Forged Silver Bow.
"... You kid can fight with that thing?" Flander was taken aback when he saw Chu Chengzhou holding the silver bow.
"Of course!" Chu Chengzhou nodded. His combat ability wasn't any weaker than his summoning skills!
Although archers often had a bad reputation for their poor aim and were accused of using underhanded tactics, it was undeniable that archery was one of the most effective forms of combat. This could be seen from the status of archers in ancient feudal armies in his previous life.
Spearmen, sword-and-shield soldiers, and other units couldn't compare to archers.
As for cavalry? Excluding the heavy cavalry that acted like tanks, the light cavalry archers who could kite were still the top among light cavalry.
Besides, almost every general knew how to use a bow and arrow.
Unless it was a village-level brawl, you could always see archers in any major battle.
"There should be soul masters hunting soul beasts over there. Don't act rashly."
Flander pointed in the direction of the fighting.
"Mm."
Chu Chengzhou nodded.
Before long, with a tiger's roar, the distant sounds of battle ceased. It seemed like high-level soul masters were bullying lower-level soul beasts.
Just as Chu Chengzhou thought this was a minor incident, Flander suddenly furrowed his brows. "A soul beast is coming!"
Soon, a black figure shot out rapidly from the nearby bushes.
It was a sleek, black leopard-like soul beast, with dark purple stripes covering its body and dark golden eyes.
T/N: I've noticed that alot of people keep complaining about mc sharing some of the the skills he makes with Xiao Wu, (Just the meditation and body training ones from what I remember) I'd like to say that the most valuable part of his cheat is that he can upgrade his martial soul and the age of his soul rings. Plus it's not strange to share stuff with people you think of as family. I'm curious on exactly why you don't like the mc sharing stuff with her. I'd get it if he shared it with like Ma Hongjun or something but not this.
