Douluo Dalu 1: The Tang Family Rebel

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Meeting Tang San

The twin girls each clung to one arm of the heterochromatic-eyed young man. He ignored Tang San entirely, his gaze sweeping over Xiao Wu for a fleeting moment, a strange glint flashing in his eyes, though it disappeared just as quickly.

Approaching the counter, the young man addressed the staff member, "You must be new here. Don't you know that there's always a room reserved for me?"

The server immediately bent over in apology. "I'm so sorry, Young Master Dai. It slipped my mind since you haven't been here for so long."

He then turned to Tang San and Xiao Wu, apologizing, "I'm terribly sorry, dear guests, but this room was already reserved for Young Master Dai. Please consider finding accommodation elsewhere."

Tang San frowned slightly. Not wanting to escalate the situation, he decided to let it go. After all, there were plenty of hotels, and losing this one wouldn't matter much.

But Xiao Wu wasn't having any of it. "How dare you look down on people just because we're young! Do you think you can bully us? This room was clearly ours first, and I'm not backing down! Let him get lost!"

The heterochromatic-eyed man finally turned around, his cold and sinister gaze landing on Xiao Wu. He nodded slightly and said, "Interesting. It's been a long time since anyone dared to speak to me like this. I can sense soul power in both of you, so you must be soul masters. Fine, the two of you can fight me together. If you win, I'll leave immediately. Otherwise, I'll have to see you both... demonstrate the meaning of the word 'roll.'"

Hearing his words, the twin girls beside him chuckled softly without a hint of worry. They obediently released his arms and stepped aside.

At that moment, the server returned with a middle-aged man, who had evidently overheard the tense exchange. The manager, visibly anxious, tried to mediate. "Please, let's not resort to violence! We can talk this out."

The heterochromatic-eyed man cast him a sidelong glance. "Manager Wang, your establishment's standards seem to be slipping."

Manager Wang wiped the sweat from his forehead and replied with a forced smile, "Young Master Dai, please don't say that. It's entirely my staff's fault for being unaware of the rules. My apologies! I'll arrange your room immediately."

Dai Mubai snorted coldly. "Enough with the nonsense. They insulted me, and now they want to leave? Let's settle this with a fight. Any damage will be on my tab."

Xiao Wu, who had been the big sister figure at Nuoding Academy for years, was fuming. She was about to step forward when Tang San held her shoulder to stop her. "Let me handle this."

"Why? I want to beat him so badly that he's crying on the floor!"

Tang San frowned. "Watch your language. I told you, I'll always protect you." He didn't want Xiao Wu to get involved because he sensed how strong their opponent was and didn't want her to get hurt. Even if he lost, he couldn't allow Xiao Wu to suffer.

Hearing his promise to always protect her, Xiao Wu's angry expression softened. She glanced at Tang San and said, "Fine, but be careful."

"There's no need to argue anymore," Dai Mubai said impatiently, annoyed at the affectionate interaction between the two. "I already said both of you can come at me together."

Tang San calmly stepped forward. "Please, show me what you've got."

Just as the two were about to fight, the entrance door swung open, and a newcomer walked in. Ignoring the tense atmosphere between Tang San and Dai Mubai, he walked directly to the counter.

"I need a room," he said.

The young man was dressed entirely in white, his long, jet-black hair cascading down his back like a flowing river. Though his face was unremarkable, his deep, mesmerizing black eyes radiated an extraordinary charm, transforming his ordinary features into something inexplicably captivating.

"Uh... I'm sorry, sir," the server stammered, smiling awkwardly. "We only have one room left, but that room is already..." He trailed off, his gaze darting nervously to Tang San and Dai Mubai, who were moments away from clashing.

"I see..." The black-haired youth nodded, then turned toward Tang San and Dai Mubai. "You two are fighting over this room?"

"Hmph! You want this room too?" Dai Mubai sneered, his arms crossed. "Fine. Judging by your appearance, you must be a soul master as well. Beat me, and the room is yours."

"Beat you? Are you sure you want to fight me?" The black-haired youth, Yun Chuan, raised an eyebrow in amusement. "Alright, if you're so eager for a beating, I'll oblige."

It was time to collect some interest.

In his past life, Yun Chuan had despised the Evil-Eyed White Tiger for abandoning his fiancée and indulging in debauchery here.

In Yun Chuan's view, being a philanderer wasn't inherently unforgivable—he himself was no saint. However, a man should at least have some sense of responsibility. Abandoning his fiancée in a perilous environment to enjoy a hedonistic life? That wasn't something a real man would do. In his eyes, this cowardly man didn't deserve Zhu Zhuqing!

Because Dai Mubai had been absent during Yun Chuan's arrival at Shrek Academy, he didn't know that this young man before him was their new teacher.

Looking at Yun Chuan's youthful appearance and dismissive tone, Dai Mubai couldn't contain his rage. "Fine! I'll see what you're made of. I hope your strength matches your arrogance!"

With that, he unleashed his martial soul.

"White Tiger, possess!"

A dazzling white light erupted from Dai Mubai's body. His arms stretched wide, his chest puffed out, and his muscles swelled, straining against his clothes. Every muscle became sharply defined, and even the surrounding air seemed to grow restless.

His golden hair turned black and white, with white dominating and streaks of black scattered throughout. Four faint lines appeared on his forehead, forming the character "王" (king).

His hands underwent the most dramatic transformation, doubling in size and sprouting white fur. Razor-sharp claws, eight inches long, extended and retracted, gleaming coldly.

Dai Mubai crouched slightly, his pupils glowing with deep blue light. Three bright rings of light—two yellow and one purple—rose beneath his feet, radiating an oppressive soul power.

"A thousand-year soul ring," Xiao Wu gasped, relief flashing in her eyes. She was glad she hadn't fought him; otherwise, she and Tang San might have been the ones getting beaten.

This young man, known as "Young Master Dai," already had three soul rings, one of which was a thousand-year ring. Judging by his age, he couldn't be more than three or four years older than them.

Three soul rings indicated that his soul power had surpassed level 30, making him a Soul Elder—a formidable opponent with a powerful beast martial soul.

"Dai Mubai. Martial soul: White Tiger. Level 37 Soul Elder. Please, enlighten me," he said formally, his domineering aura filling the room.

Yet, Yun Chuan remained calm. At level 79, he was a Soul Saint with seven black soul rings—an unparalleled anomaly with soul power rivaling a Titled Douluo. A mere level-30 Soul Elder was nothing to him.

Reaching out, Yun Chuan summoned a simple blade of Blue Silver Grass, his expression indifferent. "Tang Chuan. Martial soul: Blue Silver Grass. As for my level, I'll keep it to myself—you might faint from shock."

Seeing the Blue Silver Grass, Xiao Wu tugged on Tang San's sleeve. "Hey, Xiao San, his martial soul is the same as yours! And his last name is also Tang. Could you be brothers?"

"How could that be?" Tang San shook his head. "Blue Silver Grass is widely recognized as a trash martial soul and one of the most common. It has no special traits, and very few with it ever become soul masters. This is my first time seeing another Blue Silver Grass soul master."

But as he looked at Yun Chuan, a strange sense of kinship stirred within him, as if they truly were family. Could it just be the shared martial soul? Or was there more to it?
