Chapter 139: Chapter 137: The Eternal Undead Tower Reveals Its Might
"Take me to the sanctuary where your parents' souls are imprisoned."
Tang Si's voice was calm and steady as he watched the First Saint's soul and the wrathful spirits from the Soul-Devouring Banner vanish under the purifying power of undeath. Then, he turned to Nana and spoke with gravity.
"As you command, Master."
Nana respectfully bowed, concealing the fervent admiration in her eyes after witnessing Tang Si's overwhelming strength.
She turned and led him through the small door. Strangely enough, despite the chaos in the underground hall moments earlier, there was no response from the other spirit servants outside.
As they exited, they encountered a group of eight spirit servants gathered nearby.
These servants were all weaker than Nana. With a swift surprise attack, she struck them down one by one before they had a chance to resist.
"The First and Second Saints are dead. Pledge your loyalty to my master—the Sovereign of Death—and your loved ones shall be redeemed!"
Nana stood before the fallen servants and declared in a loud voice.
At the same time, Tang Si raised his hand and made a motion in the air. The masks on their faces were ripped away by invisible force, revealing youthful, anxious faces filled with terror and uncertainty.
Looking at their blank, pale expressions, Tang Si let out a cold snort.
"If I meant to kill you, you'd already be corpses. But if you submit to me, your loved ones' souls may yet return—reborn into new vessels. Of course, if you choose not to, I won't make things difficult for you either. I'll erase your memories and let you go. The Holy Spirit Cult is my enemy. Do not mistake me for the same filth that profanes death and desecrates the soul."
Tang Si spoke with a trace of the authority belonging to the Ruler of Death. His voice carried an unquestionable command, one that made the spirit servants feel—just for a moment—that resurrection might truly be possible.
And if they refused… what future awaited them? These people had already been abandoned by the world, their spirits worn down by suffering. Maybe submitting to this terrifying man—who had killed both Saints and seemed like an evil soul master himself—was their only option.
What's more, he had mentioned memory cleansing. But to what degree? Would they be reduced to fools?
"...Master."
One by one, the eight spirit servants knelt respectfully, bowing their heads to the floor.
After all, it was true—Tang Si had freed them from the tyranny of the evil soul masters.
Tang Si nodded in satisfaction.
"Then you are all my servants now. Take me to the sanctuary where your parents' souls are held. I know some of you doubt the truth of what I've said about resurrection. Very well—watch and see for yourselves."
At his side, Nana cast another fanatical glance at Tang Si and nodded. She truly believed now that her master possessed such divine power.
Together, Nana, the eight spirit servants, and Tang Si headed toward the soul sanctuary. Though none of them spoke, eerie, tormented cries echoed constantly from ahead.
The nine of them, all once victims of the Holy Spirit Cult's cruelty, clenched their teeth and fists as they listened to the cries—their loved ones, wailing in agony.
"Sis..."
"Dad... Mom..."
"Brother..."
Each of the spirit servants whispered the names of the family members who had been imprisoned inside. Could their souls really be brought back? They knew full well the kind of torment the Holy Spirit Cult inflicted on imprisoned spirits.
Even in the original tale, Huo Yuhao had only been able to purify and release such damaged souls. But things were different now.
Huo Yuhao—or rather, Tang Si—possessed the Eternal Undead Tower, a divine artifact once created anew by Electus, capable of repairing fragmented souls. With its power and the proper spirit-summoning techniques, resurrection—at least to some extent—was possible.
When they arrived at the sanctuary, Tang Si saw a circular pool filled with an ominously black liquid. Trapped souls screamed within, their twisted faces barely visible through the viscous surface.
"This is..."
Tang Si frowned deeply. This thing gave him an utterly vile feeling. Before, he had accused the Holy Spirit Cult of defiling undead magic mostly as a rhetorical excuse—but this... this truly disgusted him to the core.
Even Nana's face twisted in revulsion and sorrow. Her parents' souls had suffered endlessly, soaked in this grotesque liquid day and night.
She clenched her teeth.
"Master, I don't know what this stuff is exactly. All I know is that after continuously feeding it souls, the evil soul masters use it to enhance their cultivation."
At that moment, the voice of the experienced Electus echoed in Huo Yuhao's mind—his reaction not unexpected.
"That's Soul-Devouring Water. It tortures souls over long periods, draining their strength into the liquid. Hmph... so those so-called evil soul masters use it as a refining base for their power? Disgraceful. A true desecration of undeath."
There was fury in Electus's tone. And rightfully so—how could someone who mastered the power of undeath not feel enraged by such sacrilege?
"Thankfully, this liquid only torments the soul—it doesn't completely destroy it. Use the Eternal Undead Tower, Yuhao. This world owes these poor souls that much."
Tang Si nodded silently at Electus's words.
He gestured for Nana and the eight spirit servants to step aside. Then, channeling his undead power, his eyes turned ashen gray. A faintly glowing miniature tower began to form above his uplifted palm—pure white and translucent.
The moment they saw the tower, Nana and the others were stunned.
In this place full of wickedness and torment, the sight of that glowing white tower brought them unexpected peace. Their once-tainted souls felt cleaner, as if being washed by some sacred force.
Could someone who seemed like an evil soul master really possess such purity?
Their eyes turned to Tang Si with reverence, wonder… and hope.
"Return. Leave this defiled place behind."
Tang Si intoned in the ancient tongue of undead magic.
The Eternal Undead Tower in his palm shone with brilliant white light, casting a divine beam over the dark pool.
The tormented souls within the Soul-Devouring Water, sensing the light's call, struggled with all their might to escape. The black liquid that once imprisoned them now offered no resistance. One after another, ghostly white silhouettes broke through the surface and streamed into the tower.
Nana and the eight spirit servants were utterly stunned.
They had tried before—tried everything to free their loved ones from this cursed pool. But they had failed every time.
And now...
