Douluo Dalu 2: Sun-Moon Glory

Chapter 146: Chapter 144: The Emperor's Loyal Warrior, Ji Juechen

"We can only face it head-on."

Ji Juechen looked up at the incoming chainsaw sword, its jagged teeth spinning at a speed his eyes could no longer follow. A grave thought crossed his mind.

All the spectators, including Meng Hongchen on the battlefield and the audience in the stands, held their breath. Just moments ago, they were worried about the seemingly frail figure of Huo Yuhao charging straight ahead. But now, seeing his bulky figure clad in an unknown metal soul device and the terrifying chainsaw sword, all their concern had shifted toward the unremarkable Ji Juechen standing beneath that blade.

Ji Juechen swiftly raised both hands, gripping the Heavenly Meteorite Iron Sword horizontally in front of him to block the chainsaw sword. Without hesitation, he swung his much smaller blade upward against the descending chainsaw.

A thunderous clash rang through the arena. The upward swing of the Heavenly Meteorite Iron Sword collided with the downward cleave of the chainsaw sword. A sharp metallic screech echoed, as the soul power and sword intent channeled through Ji Juechen's blade met the deadly force of the chainsaw. The resulting shockwave burst forth like a nuclear explosion, sending both Ji Juechen and the partially armored Huo Yuhao flying backward.

The audience held their breath — what would be the outcome of this clash?

Soon, the result became clear. Ji Juechen stood up slowly, clutching the broken half of his Heavenly Meteorite Iron Sword. In contrast, Huo Yuhao stood firm, his Icesoul Chainsaw Sword intact but no longer buzzing, and his Icesoul Armor bearing only minor scratches.

Ji Juechen looked in silence at his broken blade, then at Meng Hongchen poised behind him and Huo Yuhao standing imposingly in front. He slowly spoke.

"I admit defeat."

The arena erupted in astonishment. A team of a Soul Emperor and Soul King had lost — and so effortlessly — to a Soul Ancestor and a Soul King?

The referee, still shaken, trembled as he announced the outcome. The most dazzling performer in this match was undeniably Huo Yuhao. From easily taking down Jing Ziyan to overpowering Ji Juechen in direct combat, his performance was simply astounding — especially considering he was just a Soul Ancestor.

And that metal suit he wore… was that a new type of soul device?

To outsiders, Ji Juechen and Jing Ziyan's defeat may have seemed shocking, but in truth, it wasn't entirely undeserved.

As mentioned earlier, if Jing Ziyan had taken the boy Soul Ancestor seriously, she wouldn't have been felled so easily by a single spiritual assault. Similarly, if Ji Juechen hadn't assumed he could defeat Huo Yuhao with one reckless strike, Huo Yuhao wouldn't have had the chance to slowly clash blade-to-blade using his Icesoul Armor and Chainsaw Sword — the chainsaw consumed immense soul power. That single strike which broke Ji Juechen's sword had already drained over half of Huo Yuhao's soul power.

Had Ji Juechen coordinated with Jing Ziyan from the beginning and fought cautiously, Huo Yuhao and Meng Hongchen might have had to go all out to win — perhaps even fusing their martial souls and unleashing all of Huo Yuhao's powerful domain-type abilities.

Huo Yuhao let out a long breath and retrieved his Icesoul Armor and Chainsaw Sword into his storage soul tool. That full-force spiritual shock had drained more than half his spiritual power, and the soul power spent was even greater. If he hadn't broken Ji Juechen's sword just now, and Ji Juechen had continued pressing the attack, Huo Yuhao would've been unable to keep using the chainsaw and armor to hold him off.

His Soul Ancestor-level cultivation was still a limitation. If he were already a Soul King, he would've had many more strategies to choose from. Right now, Huo Yuhao was truly unmatched among peers of the same rank — no exceptions.

After a brief silence, the arena burst into thunderous cheers. Huo Yuhao's dazzling performance had stunned everyone present, including Wang Dong and Ma Xiaotao. They looked at Huo Yuhao's calm figure on the stage, eyes glimmering with different emotions.

As for Ji Juechen, after the short wave of frustration and disappointment, his heart ignited with renewed fighting spirit and anticipation. He had finally found a worthy opponent!

Meng Hongchen sighed as she looked at Huo Yuhao. She hadn't done much in this match — just served as a distraction. But then she giggled to herself. 'My Yuhao was just so handsome out there! I definitely want a suit of that armor for myself! Wearing that kind of soul device makes you bigger, better, and stronger!'

"You… that sword… what is it?"

Ji Juechen's voice sounded in Huo Yuhao's ears, rising above the crowd's cheers.

Huo Yuhao raised an eyebrow and replied, "Eighth-grade soul device. Icesoul Chainsaw Sword. Can slice through anything."

Ji Juechen gazed once more at his broken Heavenly Meteorite Iron Sword. Though he held some sentimental attachment to it, if he could make it sharper, he certainly wouldn't mind.

Huo Yuhao smiled faintly, seeing through his thoughts.

"You want one too? I can help modify your broken sword — combine its design with some of my chainsaw's features. Since I broke it, it's only right that I take responsibility."

Ji Juechen said nothing, only nodded with anticipation. He then used his soul power to float the two halves of his sword toward Huo Yuhao.

Huo Yuhao took the broken blade and stored it in his soul tool. Truth be told, he already had a decent idea in mind for a modification. Ji Juechen's sword was the perfect test subject.

He imagined Ji Juechen in the future, influenced by him — wielding a chainsaw sword, clad in powered armor, slashing through enemies like an iron juggernaut.

'My loyal interstellar warrior of the Imperial Emperor...'

Thinking further, Ji Juechen developing along that path didn't seem too far-fetched. From what Huo Yuhao knew of the original work, Ji Juechen had mastered the essence of swordsmanship by abandoning soul skills in favor of self-created techniques. His self-developed Sword Obsession Domain was proof of his genius. With a razor-sharp chainsaw sword, his strikes would be taken to the extreme. "Can slice through anything" wouldn't be an exaggeration at all.

What's more, his soul skills that amplified soul power made him well-suited to wield a chainsaw, despite its energy demands. And if equipped with compact powered armor or exoskeletal gear, it would completely solve Ji Juechen's weakness in defense due to his "lopsided" specialization.
