Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Spirit Ascension — Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Rings
The high-level Spirit Ascension Platform — a place countless Title Douluo dream of entering. Just having strength wasn't enough; only those who had made enormous contributions to the Spirit Transmission Tower or the Federation, or factions deeply tied to the tower, were granted entry.
It's not that sheer strength offered no chance; theoretically, you could fight your way up from the intermediate ascension platform. But realistically, that was near impossible. According to estimates, the guardian spirit beasts inside the high-level platform were at the hundred-thousand-year level — even if not exactly, they'd be close. The intermediate platform only allowed Soul Sages and below. Imagine a Soul Sage trying to take on a hundred-thousand-year beast — it was laughable.
Gu You followed Leng Yaozhu into the elevator, heading to the tower's highest floor.
"Master, I've always wondered: where exactly does the Spirit Ascension Platform's energy come from?" Gu You asked as they ascended.
"I don't know. I've been vice tower master for several generations now. Maybe only the original Ice Spirit Douluo knew the answer," Leng Yaozhu said, shaking her head.
Gu You didn't press further. But… it felt like she was hiding something.
"Tower Master, are you just going to let her take that boy inside?"
Qian Gu Dongfeng didn't reply at first. He closed his eyes, then opened them again. "Now's not the time to sour relations with the Leng family. That boy's talent is astonishing. It's better to build goodwill early and let her handle it."
He had also learned of Leng Yaozhu's identity as Blood One — something she had hidden shockingly well. He'd known about the Blood God Army from the start; after all, many talented young elites from the Qian Gu family had joined the Blood God ranks.
With Tang Sect's man, huh… Qian Gu Dongfeng pondered silently before vanishing.
At the top of the Spirit Transmission Tower, the space felt tight, funneled into a narrow corridor.
Maybe because they were so high up, Gu You noticed it was much colder here.
"There are several ways into the high-level platform. I'm taking you through the simplest one," Leng Yaozhu explained.
They passed through a short tunnel, and what Gu You saw next made him freeze in wonder: a circular teleportation gate, standing inside a squat metallic room.
Leng Yaozhu gathered spirit power in her palm and pressed it down. A terrifying surge of energy poured into the gate.
With a flash of blinding light, white energy coated the portal's edges. A vortex spun at the center, expanding outward until it filled the frame.
Leng Yaozhu stepped in first. Gu You followed.
Darkness. It felt like true dimensional travel.
When he opened his eyes again, lush greenery surrounded him, more intensely vibrant than anything he'd ever seen — even stronger than the core of the Golden Ancient Tree.
"Ever seen the might of the Heavenly Phoenix?" Leng Yaozhu asked, glancing over.
Gu You shook his head. Honestly, since transmigrating here, the only 'bird' he'd seen was roast chicken — the only big creature he could visualize was a T. rex.
"Today, I'll show you… what a Heavenly Phoenix is."
Leng Yaozhu's spirit power erupted, transforming into a blazing red aura.
A sharp phoenix cry pierced the sky. High above, a swirling vortex formed, and a giant fiery figure shot through the clouds.
Leng Yaozhu rose into the air, and Gu You felt a force pulling him upward as well.
Breaking through the clouds, Gu You saw it clearly — a phoenix!
Its body blazed red, its long tail shimmered with multicolored light, and as it neared, the surrounding temperature surged.
Leng Yaozhu stood atop the phoenix's head; Gu You gripped its feathers tightly.
'This feeling… this feeling is amazing,' Gu You thought. Looking down over the endless green forest below, he felt as if, with a flick of his fingers, he could command the destruction of everything.
Leng Yaozhu's martial soul was undoubtedly at the divine level — even top-tier beast spirits like the Evil Fire Phoenix couldn't compare.
"World Fire," Leng Yaozhu murmured.
The fire phoenix seemed to hear the command. Its massive wings spread wide; its red feathers began to cascade downward, painting the world in a fiery glow.
It was like the breathtaking beauty of sunset — except this sunset could last forever.
The earth burned. The forest writhed in agony.
In just ten minutes, every visible tree was scorched to ash. There were no spirit beast corpses, only dazzling energy shimmering across the ground.
Gu You's hands trembled slightly. 'So… this is the power of a Half-God.'
"That's enough," Leng Yaozhu said calmly.
"…Mm."
Seated atop the phoenix, Gu You watched as energy surged into the sky. Another grand feast. Sadly, he couldn't actually see it.
He only felt his body go soft, drowsiness overtaking him.
It wasn't until half an hour later that Gu You was finally drawn out of the platform. He didn't even know exactly how it happened — one moment everything went black, and that was that.
Three spirit rings rose beneath Gu You's feet: black, black, red.
This was a spirit ring configuration unmatched in history at his age.
…
After a brief chat with Leng Yaozhu, Gu You set off for his final destination: the core of the Golden Ancient Tree.
He was ready to break through rank 40.
Riding the high-speed train, he arrived at Shrek City by the next morning.
With a quick communication, Gu You was transported almost instantly to the Sea God Pavilion.
There, only one familiar figure waited — Yun Ming.
Gu You's face was pale; he still wasn't used to instant spatial transfers.
"She's really alive?" Yun Ming asked.
"Yes," Gu You nodded slightly.
"What madness!" Yun Ming struck the air, his force so great that space rippled faintly. After hearing what Gu You had been through, Yun Ming was furious. Hurting family — that was a line no one should cross. But looking at it another way… no one was truly in the wrong.
"I must break through rank 40 as soon as possible. Only with the one-word battle armor boost will I have a fighting chance."
"Training inside the Golden Ancient Tree? That's feasible."
The two vanished from sight.
Around them, the world glowed gold. Faint golden energy floated all around, pulsing like living threads. Thick, sprawling branches twisted through the space, and everything shimmered with a gentle, woody fragrance.
To an outsider, this might look like a forest of pure gold.
But it was more than just life energy — this was the aura of the plane itself, infused with a power close to divine force. Shifting, unpredictable, its laws unknowable.
Even though Gu You had only just arrived, he could already feel the rejection — and yet, strangely, that proud, potent life energy surged toward him anyway, as if his body was born to accept it.
