Douluo Dalu: My System Is Dissastified

Chapter 7: Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Ye's Tomb

Shenghun Village was surrounded by beautiful mountains and clear waters, with birds singing and the fragrance of nature filling the air.

The mountain behind Shenghun Village was the burial ground for the deceased ancestors of the village.

According to burial customs, a person's birth and death dates, along with various details about their father and children, had to be engraved on the tombstone. However, in the back hills of Shenghun Village, there were two very peculiar tombs. Each had only four simple characters engraved on them: Ye's Tomb.

Standing in front of these two graves was an old man who appeared to be in his sixties.

Tall and thin, the old man still carried a dignified presence. His clothes were clean and tidy, and his hair was meticulously combed.

Looking at the tombstones, he sighed and muttered emotionally, "You two, I really had no other choice. I scolded him, I tried to stop him, but he still insists on becoming a spirit master. Today, I don't know who he chose as his master, but he pulled out a black card and said he's going to Notting City to enroll in school."

"Before you both passed, I promised I wouldn't let him become a spirit master. But things didn't go as expected. I really can't control him anymore. I can only let him go to Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy to study."

"He's truly talented. His innate full spirit power is at level 20. Maybe our Holy Spirit Village will produce another Spirit Saint. This time, let me be the villain. If you want to blame someone, blame me."

As he spoke, Old Jack grew more and more emotional. He couldn't help but raise two fingers toward the tombstones.

"So you finally agreed!"

A sudden voice startled Old Jack.

He looked around and saw a child climbing down from a large tree about seven meters away.

"Ye Feng, get down from there," Old Jack shouted.

"I should've been allowed to go to school a long time ago," Ye Feng said as he climbed down, landing beside Old Jack. Then he asked, "Grandpa Jack, now that I'm going, can you finally tell me how my parents died?"

"They died of illness, of course," Old Jack said, his eyes flickering slightly. He was obviously hiding something. Then he quickly changed the subject. "Ye Feng, you can make your own lunch today. I have to go to Notting City."

"Why are you going to the city?" Ye Feng asked, puzzled.

"To handle your enrollment, of course. While I'm there, I'll try to secure another work-study spot. Our village produced a Spirit Saint, after all," Old Jack replied.

"Grandpa Jack, I have the money for enrollment!" Ye Feng took out the black card given to him by Ning Fengzhi.

A black card was a symbol of status. Only those with a certain level of wealth received such savings cards from financial institutions.

"I know you have money," Old Jack said as he gently patted Ye Feng's head. "But you still have a long life ahead of you, and you'll need money in the future. If you become a work-study student, you can save five gold spirit coins per semester."

Three Months Later

Tang San had successfully persuaded Tang Hao to let him attend school. Meanwhile, Old Jack had secured two work-study spots. Together with Ye Feng, they happily set off for Notting City.

Initially, Ye Feng insisted on not being a work-study student. However, he couldn't win against Old Jack's frugality. In the end, he reluctantly agreed and entered Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy as a work-study student.

"Xiao San, Ye Feng, once you both enter the academy, don't leave without permission. I'll come to pick you up at the end of the semester," Old Jack instructed.

"Grandpa Jack, are you leaving so soon?"

"A hotel isn't something poor folks like us can afford," Old Jack said with a sigh. "You two must do your best. I hope that when I see you again, you will have become spirit masters."

He reached out and ruffled their hair affectionately.

Right next to them was a well-decorated hotel—a clear step above a regular inn.

"Wait for me," Ye Feng suddenly said. He slipped out of Old Jack's reach and walked into the hotel. A short while later, he returned.

"Ye Feng, what were you doing just now?" Old Jack asked curiously.

"Here, take this," Ye Feng said, handing him a card.

"What is this?" Old Jack asked.

"A room key card. You use it to open the hotel room," Ye Feng replied.

"A key card? You booked a room?" Old Jack was stunned, looking at Ye Feng in disbelief.

"Obviously. Can't you see it's about to rain? If you catch a cold and get a fever, I'll have to take care of you—that would be a huge hassle. Just listen to me and stay for one night before heading back. Even if you leave now, you won't make it home before dark."

For a moment, Old Jack felt like the six-year-old child in front of him wasn't a child at all but an adult.

"Nonsense! This is a hotel! I heard it costs one gold spirit coin per night," Old Jack protested.

"Not one—two," Ye Feng corrected.

"What?! Two?!" Old Jack was completely shocked. He quickly tried to return the key card to Ye Feng, but Ye Feng refused to take it.

"Go return it! Two gold spirit coins could buy so much food!" Old Jack said, his heart aching at the thought of wasted money.

"That's impossible," Ye Feng said with a smirk. "The hotel doesn't allow refunds after payment."

Ye Feng didn't bother mentioning that if anyone tried to return the room key, he had already threatened the receptionist with a bad review and a formal complaint.

"You little brat!" Old Jack muttered, looking at the key card in his hand. He wasn't sure whether he should be touched or frustrated.

Arrival at Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy

After a while, Old Jack, Tang San, and Ye Feng made their way to Notting City Junior Spirit Master Academy.

From a distance, they saw a towering archway. The arch was twenty meters wide and ten meters high, built with sturdy stone.

Beneath the archway were two massive black iron gates, crafted from the finest materials. Through the gates, a winding path led into the campus, flanked by tall trees on both sides.

At the center of the archway, four large characters stood out: Notting Academy.

As Old Jack, Tang San, and Ye Feng reached the entrance, a young man guarding the gate immediately stopped them.

"What are you country folks doing here?" the young man sneered.

Although Old Jack's clothes were neat, he still had the look of a simple village elder in the bustling city of Notting.

"Sir, we are from Holy Spirit Village. These two children are work-study students assigned to the academy this year. Do we need to go through any formalities?" Old Jack asked politely, offering a friendly smile.

"A golden phoenix from a thatched nest? Can a small village like yours produce spirit masters?" The young man snorted. "I've worked as a gatekeeper for four years, and I haven't seen work-study students in ages. Are you fakes?"

Old Jack handed over two official certificates. "Here are their documents, issued by the Spirit Hall deacon."

The gatekeeper took the certificates and read them aloud mockingly.

"Spirit Hall… Blue Silver Grass? Innate full spirit power?" He burst into laughter. "This is hilarious… And this one? Spirit Pearl, innate full spirit power level 20? Now this is even funnier! I've been working here for years and never heard of a student with innate full spirit power. And you're telling me this one has level 20? Why don't you just say he's a born Title Douluo?"

Then, without hesitation, the gatekeeper threw the certificates onto the ground.
