Chapter 36: Reunion with Tang San
"Xiao Zong, hurry up, hurry up!" Xiao Wu shouted loudly while pulling Ye Lingling's hand.
Seeing Xiao Wu so full of energy, Zu Zong secretly regretted going out shopping earlier. Even if he did go out, he shouldn't have stopped by their room to say hello. After Xiao Wu woke up and heard from Ye Lingling that Zu Zong had left, she became upset. Now that Zu Zong had just returned, Xiao Wu wanted to drag him out again.
Brushing aside the bangs on his forehead, Zu Zong responded weakly, "Yeah, yeah, I get it, I get it."
From the moment Zu Zong returned, Xiao Wu had been pouting, and her eyes kept "fiercely" glaring at him, as if to say she was mad.
"Big sister, I just got back. Plus, didn't I bring you both gifts?" Zu Zong tried to explain.
"Hmph! You went out without telling me, and besides, I don't like your gift at all."
But even as she spoke, Xiao Wu was holding onto the rabbit mask, clearly reluctant to let it go.
Zu Zong (rolling his eyes): If you don't like it, why are you holding onto it like that?
Ye Lingling, dressed in black gauze, stood nearby. She glanced at the soul tool on her wrist out of the corner of her eye, and a rare smile appeared on her face.
Zu Zong noticed this scene and thought to himself, "Looks like she really likes that mask."
In the original story, Ye Lingling was introduced as a tragic character. She was the sole inheritor of the Nine Heart Begonia Martial Soul, which could only have one successor per generation.
At most, only two Nine Heart Begonia Soul Masters could exist at the same time. When one dies, only then can another successor appear. Anyone would feel despair, having to watch their closest loved ones pass away.
Zu Zong glanced at Xiao Wu and said, "Let me make this clear—we're just having dinner. After we eat, we go back to train. We have to compete in the Great Spirit Arena tomorrow."
"Then I want a carrot meal! Lingling, what about you?"
The three of them found a decent restaurant. By the time they finished eating, it was already completely dark outside.
After paying the bill, the group of three walked out of the restaurant.
Suotuo City was bustling at night, just as lively as it was during the day.
Suddenly, Xiao Wu exclaimed, "Wow, Xiao Zong, look! There's a huge building up ahead! It looks like a mountain!"
Zu Zong looked ahead and saw an enormous oval-shaped building, standing 120 meters tall.
"That's the Great Great Spirit Arena of Suotuo City," Ye Lingling, who had been silent, finally spoke. From her tone, it seemed like she was somewhat familiar with the place.
Zu Zong asked in confusion, "Lingling, have you been here before?"
Ye Lingling nodded. Her expression remained cool, but there was a slight warmth in her voice as she answered, "Last year, Teacher Qin Ming brought us here once."
"Since that's the case, let's go in and take a look! We're going there tomorrow anyway, so we might as well get familiar with it," Zu Zong said, eager to see the Great Great Spirit Arena of Suotuo City. In Nuoding City, the soul fights had been small-scale affairs. Nuoding City was such a tiny place that you wouldn't even encounter a Soul Elder there. This time, he was ready to fight a few serious matches.
The carefree Xiao Wu, thrilled at the chance to keep wandering around and not having to go back early, immediately jumped for joy. "Yay!"
The three of them walked slowly towards the Great Spirit Arena.

Meanwhile, at the entrance of the Suotuo City Great Spirit Arena, the Shrek group had just finished their soul battle and gathered at the entrance.
As in the original story, Tang San had joined Shrek Academy under the recommendation of Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang. However, due to being tricked into the small dark room by the gatekeeper on his first day of school, Tang San missed his encounter with Xiao Wu, so he had come here alone.
At this moment, Tang San, Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Zhu Zhuqing were standing at the entrance, reenacting a scene from the original novel.
"You guys head back first. The dean just told me to visit his shop," Ma Hongjun suddenly said, his small eyes gleaming with excitement.
Dai Mubai showed a faint, amused smile. "Then we'll head back first. Take it easy."
"Dai, are you coming with me?"
"Nope, stop wasting time and get going," Dai Mubai snapped, glancing sideways at Zhu Zhuqing.
Ma Hongjun, a bit slow to catch on, didn't notice Dai Mubai's glance. His chubby face flushed red with excitement as he said, "Let's go together. Didn't you say women are resources, not people?"
Finally, Dai Mubai couldn't hold back any longer. "Get lost. I don't have your terrible taste."
Ma Hongjun pouted, clearly displeased, but when he saw the anger flashing in Dai Mubai's evil eyes, he decided against challenging him. He turned and left.
"Mu Bai, what's Ma Hongjun going to do?" Tang San asked.
Dai Mubai laughed and said, "What else can he do? His evil fire is flaring up again, so he's off to find a brothel."
At this, Dai Mubai deliberately glanced at Zhu Zhuqing, realizing that he had made a major slip-up earlier. When Ma Hongjun asked if he was going, Dai Mubai casually replied, "I don't have your terrible taste," which essentially meant that he was a regular customer. Still, he figured that if Zhu Zhuqing cared about him, at least she might scold him.
However, Dai Mubai was overthinking it. Zhu Zhuqing remained cold and indifferent, not reacting at all, even when the brothel was mentioned.
Suddenly, Zhu Zhuqing's face softened slightly, and a rare smile appeared.
This confused Dai Mubai, who had been watching her closely. Following her gaze, his eyes also lit up.
There were two beautiful girls ahead. One was younger and not as stunning as Zhu Zhuqing, but the other girl, wearing a black veil, was truly exceptional. The faint air of mystery surrounding her, combined with her cold temperament, was mesmerising.
"What a beautiful sight, like a veiled pipa. Such poetry!" Dai Mubai thought, admiring her beauty. None of his previous girlfriends could compare to her.
Dai Mubai admitted to himself that he was attracted. If Zhu Zhuqing weren't here, he would have already approached them.
He automatically ignored the blue-haired boy standing beside them.
"Could Zhuqing know those girls?" Dai Mubai wondered.
But then he noticed that Zhu Zhuqing wasn't looking at the girls—she was looking at the blue-haired boy. That smile, a smile that even he had never seen from her before.
"Damn it, who is that blue-haired pretty boy?" Dai Mubai thought angrily, feeling jealous as he watched his "fiancée" smile at another man.
Tang San, standing nearby, was also fuming. He had spotted someone he despised with all his heart—the man he had hated since he was six years old.
Zu Zong noticed Tang San and his group, a strange smile forming on his lips.
Xiao Wu also sensed that someone was looking their way. She turned to Zu Zong and asked, "Xiao Zong, do you know those people over there?"
"Oh, that ordinary-looking one, the ugliest one, is Tang San, the guy I always told you about. As for the blonde and the girl in black he's staring at, I don't know them," Zu Zong said, pointing.
As he spoke, Zu Zong couldn't help but think, "Tang San seems to hate me a lot; the blonde one must be Dai Mubai. Staring at Zhu Zhuqing like that makes sense. But why is Zhu Zhuqing staring at me? Could it be that my charm has become that irresistible?"
