Douluo Dalu: Stealing Through The Heavens

Chapter 97: It Went Wrong

He had expected Dugu Bo to show a shocked expression.

But it seemed he was overthinking it, as Dugu Bo was thoroughly enraged.

A sharp, piercing howl erupted from his mouth, and an emerald green light burst out of his body. His figure expanded in the wind, and the phantom of a giant green serpent appeared behind him.

At the same time, nine spirit rings—yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black, black—rose from beneath Dugu Bo's feet, spiraling around his body.

"Damn, I messed up," Zong muttered in shock.

In an instant, immense pressure swept over Zong, almost forcing him to collapse to the ground.

If it weren't for Zong quickly using his Nine Suns Divine Technique to protect himself, along with the support of his Eight Spider Lances and Blue Silver Emperor martial soul, he might have already fainted.

At that moment, Zong was half-kneeling on the ground, barely standing thanks to the support of his Eight Spider Lances.

Zong managed to stay standing, which shocked even the usually composed Dugu Bo. What kind of monster is this kid? The pressure he just unleashed would have been enough to knock out a Spirit King, and even a Spirit Emperor would have been pinned to the ground, unable to move.

However, despite his shock, Dugu Bo did not abandon the idea of teaching Zong a lesson.

After all, Zong had touched on Dugu Bo's sore spot! A person who plays with poison ultimately harms both others and himself. Not only had Dugu Bo's body been poisoned to the bone, but even his descendants had suffered because of it.

With a wave of Dugu Bo's right hand, a purple flame—different from before—rushed toward Zong. This purple flame was larger, deeper in color, and everything it touched, from the ground to plants, turned to ash.

Zong was horrified, but he had prepared for this. His hands formed a few strange seals, and his second spirit ring lit up.

"Second Spirit Ability—Blue Silver Blades!"

In the next moment, the Blue Silver Emperor vines covering Zong surged up, transforming into hundreds of fiery red blades that shot toward the incoming purple flames. Zong held nothing back, channeling almost all of his remaining spirit power into his second spirit ability.

This time, the Blue Silver Blades were different from before. Not only were they fully infused with fire poison, but their toughness and hardness had reached their peak, and they were also imbued with the domineering swordsmanship Zong had learned from Xuan Jian. The power was more than ten times stronger than when he fought Dai Mubai.

If this didn't work, Zong would have no choice but to use the system's teleportation function to escape.

As the Blue Silver Blades collided with the purple flames, an astonishing scene unfolded. The purple flames didn't burn through the blades, and the blades didn't pierce the flames. Instead, two shockwaves formed.

Upon closer inspection, one could see that at the point where the red and purple shockwaves met, a transformation was taking place. The red, fire-poisoned Blue Silver Blades were devouring the purple flames, but moments later, the blades would explode. This process repeated over and over, happening hundreds of times in the blink of an eye.

Seeing that only a few dozen blades remained struggling to hold on, Zong let out a bitter smile.

His mind raced. He had gone to great lengths to lure in a big fish like Dugu Bo, and if this fish escaped the hook, Zong would be very unwilling. This was a one-time opportunity. If he failed now, who knew when the next chance would come? Tang San might even beat him to it.

With this thought, Zong shouted in his mind, "Looks like I'll have to gamble; otherwise, I'll have to rely on the system to escape."

Taking a deep breath, Zong shouted loudly, "Old Poison, the reason I said you're poisoned is because I have a way to save you!"

The clash between Zong's Blue Silver Blades and Dugu Bo's purple flames created a massive disturbance.

Several miles away, the members of the Emperor Battle Team noticed it. From afar, they saw a mushroom cloud, dozens of meters high, mixed with traces of red and purple flames.

"Xiao Zong is in danger, I have to save him." Seeing an explosion in the direction Zong had left, Xiao Wu, already anxious, had her eyes turn red. She stomped the ground, launching herself into the air, and with the help of a nearby tree, leaped toward the explosion site. At this point, she no longer cared about anything else, whether it was Zong's instructions or Dugu Yan's repeated assurances. She cast them all aside.

The second to react was Ye Lingling, the most reclusive member of the Emperor Battle Team. She knew Zong had gone to meet someone but didn't know it was Dugu Bo. Seeing the massive explosion, she quickly followed Xiao Wu, using her spirit power to keep up.

Yu Tianheng frowned and looked at Dugu Yan. "Yan, could Senior Dugu have really attacked Zong?"

Among the group, he was one of the few in the know. He had been there when Zong suggested that Dugu Yan might be poisoned, and like Dugu Yan, he had thought Zong was worrying over nothing. He hadn't expected Dugu Yan's grandfather, Dugu Bo, to react so violently when she asked him about it.

Dugu Yan sighed. "My grandfather promised me he wouldn't hurt Zong. I'll go check."

As she said this, Dugu Yan also followed.

Just as Yu Tianheng was about to join them, Qin Ming stopped him.

Qin Ming looked around at the group and said in a serious tone, "Tianheng, Senior Dugu is too dangerous. You should take Osler and the others back to inform the academy's deans. I'll go and see what's happening."

Yu Tianheng nodded. While Dugu Bo wouldn't harm him, it was hard to say for Shi Brothers, Yufeng, or Oslo. Besides, they weren't close enough to Zong to risk their lives. Reporting to the deans was the safest choice.

Meanwhile, in the Spirit Hall in Martial Soul City.

A robust man in black knelt on one knee. Standing in front of him were the current Pope of the Spirit Hall, Bibi Dong, and her disciple, Hu Liena.

The man in black reported, "Your Holiness, the person you asked me to protect has been taken by Poison Douluo."

Sweat dripped from his forehead as he spoke. He knew how ruthless the Pope was. In the past, anyone who failed her orders met a deadly fate.

Surprisingly, Bibi Dong didn't get angry. She calmly said, "You may leave."

Hu Liena, standing beside her, looked puzzled and asked, "Teacher, why didn't you—"

She wanted to ask why Bibi Dong didn't punish the man in black.

Bibi Dong didn't answer directly. Instead, she gazed out the window of the Pope's Palace and murmured, "You'll understand in time. Now go back to your training. Focus on refining the immortal herb I gave you, and you still have much to improve on your soul techniques."

After Hu Liena left, a hint of killing intent appeared on Bibi Dong's otherwise calm face. "Old Poison, I hope you know what's good for you. Otherwise—"

As she spoke, Bibi Dong pulled out a red-and-white flower from her robe, gently kissed it, smiled happily, and whispered to herself, "Two more years..."
