Douluo Dalu: Three-Headed Dragon King

Chapter 178: Qian Renxue, A Gaze Between Mother and Daughter

"Congratulations on achieving final victory. The All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament's champion this year is—Thunderclap Academy. Congratulations, young genius soul master," Bibi Dong announced the result with a calm expression.

Though Spirit Hall's team had been thoroughly crushed and swept off the stage, Bibi Dong maintained the dignity and composure befitting the Supreme Pontiff in front of the watching crowd.

The red-robed bishop serving as the tournament referee loudly proclaimed, "Will the representative of Thunderclap Academy please step forward to receive the championship prize."

Yu Tianheng glanced toward Yu Tianxin beside him, then calmly walked up to the high platform. For ordinary soul masters, the title of tournament champion was the highest of honors. But for Yu Tianheng—the direct heir of Yu Yuanzhen—this honor was far from the pinnacle.

He had been raised in privilege, awakened with innate soul power nearly at rank nine, second only to Yu Tianming's full innate power. By age seven, he had absorbed the Nine-Grade Dragon Ganoderma, giving him a cultivation speed far surpassing that of most soul masters. Had he chosen to absorb spirit rings before the tournament, he might already be nearing the Soul Sage level…

Having grown up amidst glory and admiration, why would he be thrilled by a championship? Already equipped with a full set of spirit bones, what joy would he find in three ill-matched prizes?

Once Yu Tianheng reached the stage, Bibi Dong took a brocade tray from a Spirit Hall attendant and smiled. "At only eighteen, you've reached the Soul Emperor realm. A true young prodigy. You are without a doubt the rightful champion of this tournament. I wish you even greater achievements in the future—may you one day reach the Douluo Hall."

"Thank you, Your Holiness," Yu Tianheng said, accepting the tray with a slight nod.

No sooner had the tray left Bibi Dong's hands than countless eyes around the venue lit up with desire. To any soul master, spirit bones were precious beyond compare—who wouldn't covet them?

Below the stage, Hu Liena's heart trembled violently as she stared at the three shining bones, especially the light blue Spirit Condensation Wisdom Skull. It felt like it was pulling at her very soul. These bones were supposed to belong to her team—but now they were someone else's reward. How could she not feel hatred?

Just as the crowd expected Yu Tianheng to divide the bones among his team, he instead turned and walked to the tall youth standing beside the Supreme Pontiff.

"Tianming-ge, these three bones don't match my teammates' attributes. Please keep them safe," Yu Tianheng said, handing over the tray to Yu Tianming without hesitation.

Though the tournament's rewards belonged to the team, Thunderclap Academy was a subordinate branch of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan, and this victory was entirely Yu Tianheng's doing—his teammates had merely ridden his coattails. No one objected to his decision.

As for Yu Tianxin, who had withdrawn from the finals, the Heaven Dou Royal Academy hadn't even reached the quarterfinals in years. Leading them to the finals alone had already done the academy more than enough honor…

Seeing Yu Tianheng surrender the spirit bones, Yan—bandaged like a mummy—couldn't help muttering, "Is the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan that rich now? This guy just handed over three ten-thousand-year spirit bones like they're cabbages. If I didn't know better, I'd think he belonged to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. Xie Yue, who the hell is this guy to make Yu Tianheng hand them over so willingly?"

Xie Yue looked at him like he was an idiot. "You seriously don't know? Just a few days ago, the Clear Sky Douluo attacked the tournament—Your Holiness teamed up with several Titled Douluo and still couldn't stop him. But this guy crippled him in two moves. The whole city's been buzzing about it."

"Huh? Why didn't I hear about that?"

Hu Liena, beside him, pressed her hand to her forehead. "Yan… we literally talked about Tianheng's older brother during a strategy meeting. You were even pretending to take notes. What exactly is going on in your head?"

Looking at Hu Liena's flawless face, Yan looked sheepish and quickly changed the subject. "We've lost anyway. Let's think about what to do next."

While murmurs filled the crowd, a flash of white light surrounded the spirit bones. They vanished from the tray and were stored in Yu Tianming's inner Water World.

In the hollow caverns beneath that world, the three newly acquired bones—each glowing with distinct colors—gently dropped beside the mountain-like pile of dragon bones. They now rested alongside the skull from Shi Nian and the two leg bones taken from Tang Hao.

Yu Tianming withdrew his hand and smiled warmly. "The tournament's over. Let's grab Tianxin and return to the clan, the three of us."

As the brothers spoke, Qian Renxue—still in her disguise as the Heaven Dou prince Xue Qinghe—cast a smug look toward the stage. 'You spent years preparing this, only to lose it all in a clean sweep. Bibi Dong, this is your chosen one? This is your judgment?'

Though Bibi Dong's expression remained composed, a trace of turbulence passed across her face. When her gaze met the provocative gleam in Qian Renxue's eyes below, her expression nearly slipped.

In that brief moment, the Supreme Pontiff recalled the reports from Ghost Douluo and instinctively looked toward Yu Tianming. Inwardly, she sneered, 'Qian Renxue, what are you so proud of? Are you mocking our failure? Or do you think you've found a better man?'

"This year's All-Continent Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament is now officially concluded. I hope to see even greater displays of strength from all academies next time. Teams, please exit the arena in an orderly fashion." Bibi Dong quickly closed the event and turned to leave the stage, striding down the cold corridor toward the Supreme Pontiff's Hall.

She chuckled bitterly to herself. "Seems my daughter has better taste than I ever did…"

Over twenty years ago, she had fallen in love with Yu Xiaogang of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan. Now, her daughter had fallen for Yu Tianming—another member of the same clan.

But the difference was stark. Yu Xiaogang had been a talentless man with only 0.5 innate soul power, plain looks, and a frail frame—mocked and scorned by the world. Yu Tianming, though a mutant spirit user, had full innate soul power, stunning looks, a tall and powerful frame, and had already received divine inheritance by the age of twenty.

'If Tianming and Xiaogang are opposites… then maybe Xue'er will have a fate opposite mine. Maybe she'll gain the happiness I never could…'

Ever since being forced to bear a child by her teacher Qian Xunji, Bibi Dong had directed all her hatred and bitterness at Qian Renxue. In her eyes, Renxue was not a daughter but a painful reminder of her past—a symbol of the humiliation forced on her by her enemy's cherished heir.

Though Qian Xunji had died from poison sixteen years ago, every time Bibi Dong saw Qian Renxue, the resentment boiled within her. If not for Qian Daoliu's presence, she might've killed her own daughter long ago.

Then, like a little angel, nine-year-old Renxue had snuck into the Heaven Dou imperial palace to prove herself to her mother—and never returned for ten years.

That decade wore away at Bibi Dong's hatred. Hu Liena's presence stirred hidden maternal instincts. But when their eyes finally met again today—when she saw the cold defiance in Renxue's gaze—she realized they had become strangers.

Inside the grand and empty Supreme Pontiff's Hall, Bibi Dong sat on the towering throne, her black-gold robe trailing like a shadow. Though nearing fifty, she was still stunningly beautiful—regal, elegant, and serene, untouched by time.

Half an hour had passed since the end of the tournament, but Qian Renxue's eyes lingered in her mind. Large tears rolled silently down her cheeks.

'Did I really make a mistake? I gave my heart to the wrong man, spent twenty years trapped in vengeance… and in the end, it feels like the world turned against me. Even Renxue's pure eyes are now filled with hatred…'

Perhaps overwhelmed by emotion, the cold and resolute Bibi Dong—for the first time in decades—felt a pang of sorrow. What she didn't realize was that the divine power of the Rakshasa God within her was quietly weakening…

"Teacher, I'm sorry… I let you down…" Hu Liena's soft voice pulled Bibi Dong back to the present.

"Nana, don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. Those Blue Lightning brats are just too powerful. Go rest—you've fought enough today." Bibi Dong wiped her tears and offered her treasured disciple a warm smile.

At least she still had Hu Liena.

On the road from Spirit City to Heaven Dou City.

The Blue Lightning Tyrant Clan and Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan carriages stopped at an inn.

Located near the border between the two empires and close to Star Dou Forest, this inn was a popular stop for soul masters en route to hunt spirit beasts.

As the group entered the inn, a thin, tall old man slowly turned his head. He wore a black robe, with dark hair and beard, and his eyes glowed green—eerily bright.

Only his eyes moved; the rest of his body remained perfectly still. The sight was enough to startle Zhu Zhuqing and Oscar, both newly joined members of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan.

Before anyone could speak, the tall girl beside the old man suddenly stood up and smiled at Yu Tianming.

"Tianming-ge, long time no see."

"Indeed it has," Yu Tianming smiled back, his gaze shifting meaningfully to the strange old man—the Poison Douluo, Dugu Bo.

Dugu Bo's face remained impassive, but a raspy voice echoed in Yu Tianming's ear. "The Snow Night Emperor has already ingested the poison I carefully prepared. No one under heaven can cure it. He'll be dead before we reach Heaven Dou City."

Yu Tianming responded with a whisper that went straight to Dugu Bo's ears. "Will the poison's effects raise suspicion?"

"With my mastery of poison? No one will suspect a thing. The imperial physicians only think the emperor has fallen ill with a strange disease."

"Excellent. The old emperor's death is guaranteed. But I still need you to return to Heaven Dou City afterward—to support Prince Xue Qinghe in claiming the throne on behalf of our clan."

"Of course…"

Yu Tianming had arranged all this before heading to Spirit City. Dugu Yan had not accompanied him, staying with Dugu Bo after years apart while she trained at Sea God Island and the Slaughter City. They had arranged to reunite here outside Star Dou Forest.

As the secret conversation ended, Yu Tianming led Qian Renxue—disguised as Xue Qinghe—over to Dugu Bo.

"This is Prince Xue Qinghe of Heaven Dou. He and I are very close friends. He even attended your Titled Douluo ceremony," Yu Tianming said with a smile.

Qian Renxue bowed like a refined nobleman and spoke gently. "Junior Xue Qinghe greets the Poison Douluo."

Dugu Bo's eyes briefly swept over her and he gave a slight nod. "Heaven Dou's prince, is it? Understood."

Then he resumed eating and drinking in silence. Dugu Bo had spent much of his cultivation life in seclusion, both due to his martial spirit's flaws and his natural recluse nature. Even acknowledging Qian Renxue was already generous.

"Brother Xue, the Poison Douluo is here to help escort our clan's team—and he may accompany you to Heaven Dou City," Yu Tianming explained.

"I understand…" Qian Renxue looked at Yu Tianming, a glimmer of joy flashing briefly in her eyes.

Originally, she had planned to wait until the Snow Night Emperor died of old age and take the throne smoothly. But now, with Yu Tianming's intervention, the timing was perfect.

Letting the old emperor die sooner suited her just fine.
