Chapter 31: The Decisive Battle Begins with Billy Wang
Donghai College.
The typhoon in Donghai City came very suddenly, having a huge impact on the entire city. Shops couldn't open, schools had to suspend classes, and even city traffic ground to a halt. All departments of the General Administration Office were operating at full capacity.
The typhoon lasted for an entire week. At its strongest, it could even uproot large trees, and many buildings were damaged.
Fortunately, it was finally over.
After the typhoon, the air in Donghai City felt exceptionally fresh. A light mist hovered in the air, the sun shone down brightly, and now and then, a rainbow could be seen spanning the sky. The heavens were crystal clear and cloudless.
When Nan Fusheng stepped into the classroom, he saw Xie Xie pacing anxiously. The moment he spotted Nan Fusheng, his eyes lit up.
> "Fusheng, have you seen Wulin?"
> "Wulin? No. What's going on?" Nan Fusheng played dumb despite knowing the general situation around Tang Wulin. After all, Wulin would likely return soon. Even if he didn't, three-on-three or four-on-four didn't make much difference to him.
> "I don't know what's going on with him. He hasn't returned any calls. I think his communicator ran out of power—it won't connect at all," Xie Xie said worriedly.
> "Do you know where his forging studio is? Should we go look for him during lunch?" Gu Yue, standing nearby, also frowned, worry written on her face.
> "I've got zero interest in forging. How would I know where his studio is?" Xie Xie smiled bitterly. "That day, he said he'd be in the studio the whole time. If he's really still there, then something must've happened. Otherwise, he'd never be late like this."
> "You know something," Gu Yue muttered. "Let's go to the Forge Association at noon. They might have a registration record of where his studio is."
Xie Xie didn't object and nodded.
> "Good idea. Let's do that."
When Tang Wulin still didn't show up after school at noon, the three went to Wu Changkong to request leave. After getting his approval, they immediately flew out of the campus and headed to the Forge Association.
Half an hour later, they left the Forge Association looking gloomy.
The reply from the association was simple: the location information of any registered forging room was confidential and could not be disclosed—unless they had an official permit. And as it turned out, Tang Wulin's information had a higher confidentiality level than most.
> "What now? Should we ask Teacher Wu to help us apply for official permission?" Gu Yue looked to Xie Xie.
> "That won't work. Official authorization isn't something you get quickly—it takes time. No way it gets done today. Looks like the three of us will be competing alone tonight," Xie Xie replied bitterly. "Wulin isn't the kind of person to disappear like this. Something must have happened."
Nan Fusheng also frowned.
> "Let's head back first. No matter what, we should at least get Teacher Wu to apply. The match isn't more important than Wulin's safety."
> "Yeah."
---
> "Official permission?" Wu Changkong's cold face darkened even further as he listened to the trio.
Tang Wulin still hadn't returned to class, and even after searching outside the academy, there was no trace of him.
> "Go back to class first. I understand," Wu Changkong said coolly.
> "Teacher, will just the three of us compete in tonight's match?" Xie Xie asked.
> "Just the three of you," Wu Changkong replied without emotion.
> "Yes."
---
Afternoon classes passed quickly. Perhaps because the typhoon had kept everyone cooped up for too long, the moment school ended, the playground was packed. A huge crowd of students—and even teachers—gathered to watch today's first-grade promotion match.
> "Have you heard? This year's promotion matches are insane! Grade 1 Class 5—the lowest class—won three matches in a row. They might go all the way!"
> "Get real. Do you know how terrifying this year's Class 1 is? They're called the strongest freshman class ever for a reason. Three of them already have second spirit rings, and their spirits are all powerful. Grade 1 Class 5 only has first-ring soul masters. There's a whole level of difference between them. One less skill, weaker spirit power—they don't stand a chance. I want to see how far Class 1 can go. I heard even the second-years are nervous."
Students whispered among themselves, while teachers around the competition field discussed quietly too.
Leading Grade 1 Class 5, Wu Changkong walked at the front. Behind him were Nan Fusheng, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue.
At the same time, another commotion erupted at the opposite end of the field.
The crowd parted on instinct.
Leading the group was a female teacher, around 27 or 28 years old, resembling Ye Yingrong, but even more stunning—yet with an arrogance Ye Yingrong lacked.
Behind her walked the students of Grade 1 Class 1, known as the strongest freshman team in years.
Both groups took their places around the competition field, awaiting the match to begin.
Director Long Hengxu had already stepped onto the stage. He nodded at the two head teachers before addressing the crowd:
> "Due to the typhoon, the promotion matches were postponed. Today marks the fourth match: Grade 1 Class 5 versus Grade 1 Class 1. Teacher Wu, how many participants will your class be sending today?"
> "Our class will be sending..." Wu Changkong was just about to say "three" when—
> "Teacher Wu, wait a second!"
The voice came from behind Class 5.
Hearing that familiar voice, both Xie Xie and Gu Yue's faces lit up with surprise.
Tang Wulin ran up from behind the crowd.
His current appearance was far from ideal—messy hair, pale face, and an unstable aura.
> "Where were you? Why are you just getting here now?" Xie Xie asked, clearly annoyed.
> "It's hard to explain. Let's talk after the match," Tang Wulin said, forcing a weak smile. "Teacher Wu, I'm ready to participate."
Wu Changkong looked at him silently and then nodded.
> "Four participants from our class."
> "Four from Class 1 as well," said the other teacher—Ye Yingluo—with her head raised.
> "Both sides, enter the arena," Long Hengxu instructed.
What surprised Nan Fusheng and the others was that Class 1 took the same formation as them—the "品" character formation (three in front, one protected in the back).
> "My name is Zhang Yangzi," said the composed youth standing front and center.
> "Wei Xiaofeng, we meet again." The thin boy on the left sneered and raised a hand, giving them a thumbs-down.
> "You—!" Xie Xie was enraged and almost lunged forward before Tang Wulin held him back by the shoulder.
Xie Xie glanced at Wulin in surprise.
> This guy… feels stronger than before!
> "Wang Jinxi," the boy on the right said calmly.
> "Wang Billy," said the tall, dark-skinned boy in the back with a wide grin, flashing a white-toothed smile at Nan Fusheng and the others.
> "Tang Wulin, Class 5, Grade 1."
> "Gu Yue."
> "Xie Xie!" His eyes burned with cold fury as he glared at Wei Xiaofeng.
> "Nan Fusheng." Nan Fusheng stared curiously at Wang Billy, who stood tall and well-protected behind the other three. He looked more like a senior student! How could someone like that not be a power-type Spirit Master?
Seeing tensions rising before the match had even begun, Long Hengxu furrowed his brows.
> "Let me remind you all—this is an internal academy match. Victory is secondary. Intentionally injuring your opponent will result in severe punishment."
> "Yes!" the eight participants responded in unison.
> "Good. Get ready. Both sides, retreat and take your positions."
Under Long Hengxu's supervision, both sides stepped back, maintaining proper distance.
