Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Qian Xunji’s Carefully Laid Trap

Chapter 54: Qian Xunji's Carefully Laid Trap

Qian Xunji's attitude grew equally resolute. "Father, you really can't kill Ah Yin!"

"Oh? You think that just because you're the only heir of the Six-Winged Angel line, I can't kill this soul beast in front of you?" Qian Daoliu sneered. "Jier, let me show you what an Extreme Douluo is!"

Right after speaking, an ocean-like, holy soul power erupted from his body. Instantly, he sealed off Qian Xunji's approach to Ah Yin. That terrifying force would crush her on the spot—never mind her; even Qian Xunji wouldn't survive it.

"Father, would you kill the third generation of the Qian family?!" Qian Xunji roared, playing his final trump card—Ah Yin's pregnancy.

At those words, Qian Daoliu's body froze. The colossal soul power swirling around him paused in midair. "What did you say?"

Qian Xunji let out a breath of relief. Fortunately, all his preparations were thorough, or else that old man might have shattered his entire plan. "Ah Yin is carrying your grandchild. You'd really kill your own descendant?"

Qian Daoliu's golden eyes flashed as he fixed on Ah Yin's trembling belly. Indeed, inside her body, there was a budding life force steadily growing. "You little bastard—you're trying to drive me to my grave! Do you have any idea what a shapeshifted soul beast might give birth to?"

Qian Daoliu wanted to kill her yet found himself hesitating. He wasn't sure what kind of child a soul beast mother would bear. If by chance it was indeed human—someone who awakened the Six-Winged Angel at age six—then he'd be a monstrous grandfather killing both mother and unborn grandchild. But what if it turned out some half-human, half-grass monstrosity that shamed the Qian line?

Realizing the stalemate, Qian Xunji maintained a composed face. "Father, day by day, you're sealed away in the Hall of Consecrations. Could you at least review some historical records? Humanity's origins, how humans can have offspring with soul beasts—unlike animals that cannot. That's precisely because humans originally descended from shapeshifted soul beasts! Which means if a soul beast mother bears a child, that baby wouldn't differ from us."

"Despite being disrespectful, if we trace our lineage all the way back, our Divine Ancestor's ancestor's ancestor was definitely also a shapeshifted soul beast. Didn't you just claim a soul beast remains a beast forever? That means the child of a soul beast is a beast, so by that logic all humans are beasts, and you could wipe out the entire human race—after that, kill yourself too. With Tang Chen missing, you're practically invincible on the continent," he added sarcastically.

Qian Daoliu's head spun as Qian Xunji's words rattled him. At length, he stood there, chest heaving, but in the end he lost to his son's barrage of logic. To save face, he gave a cold snort. "We'll see a few weeks from now what that child looks like."

After Qian Daoliu departed, Qian Xunji consoled Ah Yin, gently wiping away her tears. "Don't worry—I'm here. If this old man truly won't accept it, then let him rot alone in the Hall of Consecrations. We'll pay him no mind."

Ah Yin nodded softly.

"For now, stay in the Pope's Hall and take care of yourself. You won't obtain a spirit ring for a while, but your soul power will continue to accumulate. Though if you're stuck at Soul Emperor's rank, it might be slower than a Soul Sage."

"It doesn't matter. This small drop in cultivation speed isn't much." She truly didn't mind.

Her residence was furnished just as a Holy Maiden's would be: the best skincare products, fine carpets made from Heavenly Mountain Snow Fox fur, bedding of premium silk—perfectly nurturing a woman's delicate skin. There were even two exotic orchid plants over three meters tall in the corners, emitting a subtle fragrance to dispel anxiety and promote restful sleep.

During this time, aside from cultivating, Ah Yin would occasionally wander the Pope's Hall, basking in sunlight. She'd dine three times a day supplemented by herbal tonics from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well's medicinal treasures.

As for intimate matters, she directly forbade the "waterway" route. Although in early and late pregnancy, as long as the motions weren't too intense, it wouldn't harm the fetus, she still worried Qian Xunji might lose control. So it came down to purely manual or other gentler methods. No doubt he had to forgo a certain "channel" for a few weeks while the "muscle" there recovered. Sacrifices had to be made.

Meanwhile, what was Qian Daoliu up to? He had hurried off to the Douluo Temple, praying daily before the Angelic Deity statue, dreading that Qian Xunji's heretical words and deeds would anger the Divine Ancestor into punishing them both.

It stayed that way until Ah Yin was around two months along and her stomach had noticeably rounded, the fetus growing. Then Qian Daoliu emerged again. With the vantage and spiritual might of an Extreme Douluo, from a distance he could see that the unborn child in Ah Yin's belly was indeed human in shape, flesh and blood. So he grudgingly accepted her presence somewhat.

Later, Qian Xunji came into the Douluo Temple, standing behind Qian Daoliu as he finished his prayers before the Angelic statue.

When he was done, Qian Daoliu glowered, "Why have you come again? Here to rile me up once more?"

Qian Xunji shrugged. "In short... yes."

Qian Daoliu slapped him with a wide swing. Prepared, Qian Xunji ducked and said quickly, "But in precise terms, I'm doing it for the good of the Angelic line!"

"What are you plotting now?" Qian Daoliu felt mentally drained. How had he sired such a contrarian son? Didn't he realize how many brain cells an old man lost whenever he got angry? Too many outbursts would hasten one's demise.

"Father, I'm going to announce to the whole continent that I'm marrying Ah Yin."

"...You think you're doing this for the Angelic line?" Qian Daoliu grated, straining not to blow up.

"Yes. Tang Hao and Tang Xiao both love Ah Yin. Tang Hao is the current generation's Clear Sky Douluo, and I predict he'll reach Titled Douluo within ten years. Once he learns I've taken Ah Yin as my wife, he'll inevitably challenge me."

Qian Daoliu's mouth twitched. Why had the continent spawned so many "weirdos," all smitten with a shapeshifted soul beast? He sighed. "Even if he challenges you, you can crush him. You don't think it's a hollow victory with your big rank gap?"

Qian Xunji chuckled. "Who said I'd just beat him? I plan to toy with him thoroughly."

"Father, remember the Seven Great Sects re-selection I held? Did you think it was to weaken them? With you around, I never needed such ploys. That was just so I could see the Clear Sky Hammer's combat patterns and formulate a plan. Theoretical knowledge alone remains mere talk; we need real fights. That's why I tested myself against the supply of Titled Douluo in the Hall of Consecrations."

Here in the Douluo Temple, with no elders present, Qian Xunji felt no fear of being overheard. He lowered his voice.

Qian Daoliu stared at him. "I never imagined you had such cunning. Maybe I simply haven't focused enough on you. Very well—go ahead and do what you must. But first, I have to petition the Divine Ancestor. If the god approves, then so be it."

With that, Qian Xunji gazed at the towering angelic statue. "Then go petition, Father."
