Chapter 129: The Hundred Thousand-Year Spirit Bone
Yang Wudi looked at his grandson. "Potian, why did you choose Armo Mountain?"
Yang Potian spread out a map, pointing to Armo Mountain. "Armo Mountain is the northernmost peak of the Heaven Dou Empire, covering a vast area and, most importantly, it's highly defensible."
Armo Mountain was a location Yang Potian had meticulously selected. It lay near the extreme north, and its steep, towering heights created a natural barrier between the Heaven Dou Empire and the Great Northern Forest. Its northern face was perpetually snow-covered and nearly uninhabitable, while the southern face, with lush vegetation, enjoyed a spring-like climate year-round, making it suitable for growing medicinal plants.
Armo Mountain was so far from Heaven Dou City that no major power could easily exert control there. As a result, several small sects had already taken up residence on the mountain.
With snow blanketing its peaks all year, setting up a sect there would make it nearly impossible for outsiders to find them. The area was similar to the Clear Sky Sect's ancestral ground but even more secluded. Enemies would struggle to locate them, and the harsh conditions were ideal for refining a spirit master's body and spirit power. Even spirit beasts were abundant there, thanks to its vast territory.
The only downside was the difficulty of transportation, but with storage-type soul tools, that issue was easily manageable.
Originally, Yang Potian had planned to include the Min Clan in this scheme, assigning them to handle patrols and transport on the mountain. Without them, he would need to find other solutions.
Yang Wudi still looked uncertain. "Armo Mountain is indeed impressive, but it's quite far from any city. It might hinder our clan's development since it's so remote."
"Grandfather, it won't be an issue. We can keep a small presence at our current base and transport the finished medicines to Heaven Dou City for sale. It might take a bit more time, but the added safety is worth it."
His uncle Niu Mang was still concerned. "While our two clans may have two Title Douluos, being so far from Heaven Dou City means we'd lack the empire's protection. Aren't you worried that other powers might launch a large-scale attack on us?"
The others gave Niu Mang exasperated looks—he was clearly uninformed about their clans' strength, thinking they only had two Title Douluos.
Niu Gao shook his head at his son. "Son, your training has left you completely out of touch. Aside from you and Potian, everyone else here is a Title Douluo, and don't forget about your Uncle Wushuang."
Niu Mang looked stunned. "Jinfeng, Zhentian—you two reached Title Douluo? And wasn't Uncle Wushuang already deceased?"
Niu Jinfeng explained to her brother, "Brother, I broke through recently, and Uncle Wushuang isn't dead. He's just stayed out of the spotlight for the clan's sake."
Niu Mang swallowed hard. "Jinfeng, so we now have five Title Douluos between our two clans? When did this happen? How am I so out of the loop?"
Niu Gao shot his son a reproachful look. "Why do you need to know? Just focus on training. Of everyone here, you're the weakest."
After some discussion, they finalized their plan for the near future, with Niu Gao already considering designs for the new settlement on Armo Mountain.
After leaving the secret chamber, Yang Potian took out a map that showed the entire Heaven Dou Empire, including Balak Kingdom and Farsnol Province. His gaze settled on Holy Spirit Village. He made a few calculations, then donned a black outfit and quietly left the Potian Clan grounds.
Tang Hao was bold enough to show himself in Heaven Dou City and meet with Tai Tan and Bai He, so he wouldn't likely leave any time soon. Both Tang San and Xiao Wu still needed his protection.
Upon reaching a forest, Yang Potian looked up and called out, "Third Elder, could you come out for a moment?"
After calling three times, a shadow emerged from the forest—it was Yang Wuju, the Third Elder, who had been secretly guarding him.
Yang Potian bowed. "Thank you for your protection, Third Elder. I'm going on a journey now, so please don't follow me for the time being."
The Third Elder remained unfazed. "I'm under orders from the clan leader to protect you. Nothing takes precedence over your safety."
Yang Potian shook his head. "Third Elder, then I'll leave now. Try to keep up if you can."
With that, two massive wings sprouted from Yang Potian's back. Thanks to his repeated power boosts, each wing had reached a length of four meters. He flapped them and swiftly flew westward.
With his 50,000-year Tiger-Eagle Wings, Yang Potian could reach speeds rivaling that of a flight-capable Spirit Douluo. Based on his calculations, Holy Spirit Village was about 4,000 kilometers from Heaven Dou City, and the Tiger-Eagle Wings allowed him to cover close to 1,000 kilometers per hour.
After about four hours, he arrived near Nuoding City, and after checking several waterfalls marked on his map, he located his target.
The waterfall was subtly different from the others, with an unusual abundance of Blue Silver Grass growing around it.
Dressed in black with his face concealed, Yang Potian attached two red-hot firestones to his waist for extra caution. Once ready, he spread his wings and flew behind the waterfall.
Inside, he found an area with an especially intense life force where the Blue Silver Grass grew even more densely. Searching the rock wall, he eventually found a hidden door. Having inherited techniques from the Yu Clan, thanks to his mother's direct lineage, Yang Potian had little trouble opening it.
Upon entering, he noticed a peculiar strain of Blue Silver Grass along the ground. This particular plant's leaves bore a faint golden edge, giving it an extraordinary appearance.
He kept his wings out and continued searching until he found a small hidden compartment in the stone wall. Opening it, he found a two-foot-long lead box.
The box was incredibly heavy, weighing about 100 kilograms. When he opened it, a vibrant blue glow filled the cave, accompanied by an overwhelming aura of life.
Yang Potian's hands shook as he held the box. Inside was a vibrant blue bone, exuding an intense life force and more beautiful than any sapphire he'd seen.
He murmured in a low, hoarse voice that sounded more like a middle-aged man's than a youth's. "After tracking Tang Hao for more than a decade, I finally found something worthwhile. A 100,000-year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone! If I present this to Her Majesty the Pope, I'll surely be handsomely rewarded. Becoming a Platinum Bishop wouldn't be out of the question."
After savoring the moment, Yang Potian carefully closed the lead box, tucked it under his arm, and quickly left the cave.
Once he'd flown about 200 kilometers and reached another forest, he stored the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone in his personal soul tool, removed his disguise, and stowed the two firestones.
With his entire appearance and even his aura changed, he flapped his wings and took off from the secluded spot.
This spot had been carefully chosen, located just ten kilometers from a nearby Spirit Hall branch, with all the prior preparation designed to mislead Tang Hao.
When Yang Potian finally returned to the Potian Clan, it was late at night, and surprisingly, Yang Wudi was waiting for him.
"Grandfather, why are you still up so late?"
Yang Wudi gave Yang Potian a searching look. "Potian, what were you up to today that you went to such lengths to lose the Third Elder?"
"Grandfather, whatever I do is for the Potian Clan's future and prosperity."
Yang Wudi sighed. "Whatever you do, always prioritize your safety. You're my only grandson, and I can't bear to see you in danger. Leave the clan matters to us old folks."
Looking at his grandfather's weary face, Yang Potian felt a pang in his heart. "Don't worry, Grandfather. I won't take such risks again."
They spoke a while longer before Yang Wudi left the room. Watching his grandfather's retreating figure, Yang Potian clenched his fist. "Grandfather, I swear—whether it's the Clear Sky Sect or Spirit Hall, those who've wronged us will pay."
Meanwhile, in the Min Clan's territory, Tang San had taken out several blueprints of hidden weapons. As one of the Three Great Blacksmiths, Tai Tan instantly recognized their potential and value, especially with a large deal already secured with the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Sect.
Bai He couldn't help but smile. The Min Clan, with its limited offensive power, could greatly benefit from these hidden weapons.
After some discussion, they decided to establish the Tang Sect outside Heaven Dou City, with both the Li and Min Clans under its banner and Tai Tan and Bai He as elders.
They saw a bright future for the Tang Sect, especially with Tang San's rare twin spirits and innate full spirit power. They believed the Tang Sect would one day rival or even surpass the Clear Sky Sect.
Yet, they couldn't hide their disappointment with the Yu and Potian Clans, who had refused them so thoroughly despite decades of brotherhood.
Tang Hao looked on with pride as his son conversed with Tai Tan and Bai He.
What they all seemed to overlook, however, was that Tang San was still just a Spirit Elder—a thirteen-year-old boy. The world has no shortage of prodigies, but few of them ever reach the pinnacle. Most fail and fall along the way.
Yang Potian often wondered why, in every world, the Tang Sect—a dark sect specializing in assassination—was ultimately despised by the major powers.
And yet, this very sect, founded on stealth and hidden weapons, became the largest sect on the continent in Douluo Dalu's original story, thriving for millennia. The whole premise seemed backwards to him.
In this world of fantasy, where martial spirits and spirit power reign supreme, the Tang Sect's hidden weapons could only rival Spirit Kings at best. Relying on hidden attacks to gain an advantage, the very idea struck Yang Potian as fundamentally flawed. It was as if something was simply off in this world.
