Chapter 15: Excited master
"Indeed, your disciple is really good!" Flender admitted.
"But..." Thinking of Su Xing's confrontation with Dai Mubai, who was seriously injured, Flender's expression changed slightly as he looked at Yu Xiaogang.
"But what?" Yu Xiaogang looked at Flender, puzzled by the sudden shift in Flender's demeanor.
"Among the students who came to take the entrance exam that day, there was a kid named Su Xing who wasn't easy to handle!" Flender said.
"Su Xing? That name sounds familiar!" Yu Xiaogang frowned upon hearing Flender's words.
"Of course, that kid once wanted to apprentice under you, but you rejected him!" Flender said. "Xiaogang, that boy is no less talented than your disciple, Xiaosan!"
Seeing that Yu Xiaogang didn't remember, Flender added with some frustration.
"You're talking about that kid from years ago?" Yu Xiaogang suddenly recalled.
"His innate soul power was only level three. I wonder if he even broke through to level 20—how could he be comparable to Xiao San?" Yu Xiaogang said, surprised.
"What? His innate spirit power was really only level three?" Flender was equally surprised. He had initially doubted it when Tang San had told him a few days prior.
"Xiaogang, you must be mistaken. That kid not only broke through level 20 but is already a level 27 spirit master!" Flender doubted Yu Xiaogang's assessment.
"Level 27?" Yu Xiaogang was taken aback. "No wonder you brought him up," he said, now fully realizing the gravity of Su Xing's rapid progress.
"Impossible! When he awakened his martial spirit, I tested him myself. His innate spirit power was only level three!" Yu Xiaogang shook his head in disbelief.
"Then how did he increase his level so quickly? He even exploded his spirit ring! Do you think that might have something to do with his rapid advancement?" Flender was intrigued by Su Xing's unique methods.
"What? Did he explode his spirit ring? Why would he do such a thing?" Yu Xiaogang was utterly astonished—he had never heard of anyone doing that before.
"Do you know where Su Xing is now?"
Unfortunately, Flender sighed. "For some reason, he didn't join Shrek Academy. He's already left."
"He's left?" Yu Xiaogang regretted hearing this. "If only I had come earlier. He wanted to be my student six years ago. If he knew I was coming to guide Shrek's students, he might not have left!"
Yu Xiaogang assumed that Su Xing still wanted to apprentice under him.
"Tell me more about his situation," Yu Xiaogang said. "His rapid level increase might indeed be linked to his exploding spirit ring." Since he couldn't speak to Su Xing directly, he needed Flender to explain the details.
Yu Xiaogang's curiosity was piqued as if he had discovered a rare subject of study. He felt that understanding this might even help him break through his own level 29 bottleneck.
Flender didn't mind explaining but noted, "I wasn't there that day. If you really want to understand, ask Zhao Wuji or your disciple Tang San!"
At this point, in the original story, Tang San and the others had already gone with Zhao Wuji to the forest to hunt for a spirit ring. However due to Dai Mubai's injury, Oscar had not trained as diligently, so he hadn't broken through to level 30, even when Yu Xiaogang arrived. Thus, Tang San and the others were still present.
...
"What? Su Xing defeated a 37th-level spirit master?"
"And not just any spirit master, a spirit master with the top-tier martial spirit, the Evil-Eyed White Tiger?"
"Created his soul skills..."
When Yu Xiaogang learned about Su Xing's accomplishments from Tang San, he was stunned.
He hadn't expected that the same Su Xing he had once dismissed would become so powerful in just a few years.
Stronger than him.
Stronger even than Tang San, the proud disciple standing in front of him.
Yu Xiaogang knew how extraordinary Tang San was, but he doubted that Tang San could defeat a level 37 spirit master like Dai Mubai.
Had the student he rejected surpassed the one he mentored?
"Teacher, do you have any idea how Su Xing advanced so quickly?"
"Could it be related to him exploding his spirit ring?" Tang San asked, equally astonished by Su Xing's abilities.
"You're very observant!" Yu Xiaogang complimented his student. Then he explained, "It's possible. We know that spirit rings contain a significant amount of spirit power. When a spirit master absorbs a spirit ring, they gain a substantial boost in power. I used to think that this was the full extent of the spirit ring's contribution, but now I believe that might not be the case."
"Perhaps a large portion of the spirit power remains in the spirit ring even after absorption. By exploding the spirit ring, Su Xing might have absorbed the remaining power, allowing him to advance so quickly."
"If that's true, it's a brilliant strategy. Sacrificing a spirit ring and its associated ability in exchange for greater spirit power could revolutionize the entire Douluo Continent!"
Yu Xiaogang eagerly shared his theory with Tang San.
"For example, a spirit master like me, stuck at level 29, if blowing up a spirit ring allows me to break through to level 30, I could finally become a true spirit master!"
Yu Xiaogang lowered his voice to explain, eager to help Tang San understand.
If Su Xing were present, even if he disdained Yu Xiaogang's teaching, he would have to acknowledge his intellect.
Yu Xiaogang's theory was correct.
Su Xing had already tested this method. However, Su Xing had avoided absorbing another spirit ring after reaching level 20 because he wasn't sure if blowing it up again would affect his control over his power.
Yu Xiaogang mistakenly believed that Su Xing's progress came from exploding multiple spirit rings.
In reality, Su Xing had relied on his mastery of lightning and his enhanced physical strength to accelerate his cultivation of spirit power.
Su Xing's method allowed for continuous advancement as long as his body continued to strengthen.
Yu Xiaogang's theory, on the other hand, would only help spirit masters break through one or two levels, it was limited to those stuck at a bottleneck.
But even so, Yu Xiaogang's idea was extraordinary.
He could already predict the massive impact it would have on the entire Douluo Continent if it were proven true and made public!
