Douluo: The Blind Ascendant

Chapter 16: Registering as a Spirit Master

The Spirit Hall truly lived up to its reputation as the most powerful spirit master organization on the Douluo Continent.

Even a small branch of the Spirit Hall was more impressive than the town's city lord's mansion.

The architecture resembled a typical medieval castle, and Lin Yongming estimated that the branch covered an area of no less than 500 square meters.

As Lin Yongming entered the main hall of the Spirit Hall, he was at a loss about whom to approach. However, within the range of his "Heart Eye," he sensed a familiar figure accompanied by two others—a man and a woman.

It's worth noting that the "Heart Eye" was not the same as spiritual power. While spiritual power could be detected by stronger individuals, potentially leading to conflict if misused, the "Heart Eye" was undetectable. Spiritual power carried risks, as misuse could result in backlash, which was difficult to recover from.

Soon, Lin Yongming sensed the trio approaching the hall and overheard their conversation.

"Sigh, the past few days I visited several villages, but none of the children had innate spirit power," the man said.

"Same here, though I did find one with level one innate spirit power. It's really rare for ordinary villagers to awaken with innate spirit power," the woman replied.

"Exactly. Even if they're lucky enough to have innate spirit power, it's usually only at levels one or two," the third voice chimed in. Lin Yongming recognized it as the Spirit Hall deacon who had helped him during his awakening ceremony.

"Young man, are you here for something?" the deacon asked as they entered the hall and noticed Lin Yongming standing there.

"Deacon, is that you? I recognize your voice," Lin Yongming turned toward the voice and replied.

"It's you! What brings you here? Are you looking for me?" Xu Qing, the deacon, was surprised. He immediately recognized Lin Yongming as the boy with innate full spirit power from Thunder Rain Village, and his congenital blindness had left a deep impression on Xu Qing.

"Old Xu, who's this kid? I've never seen him before. Don't tell me he's your secret love child, haha!" the man beside Xu Qing joked. Both wore the same white Spirit Hall uniform.

"Old He, stop joking. This is the genius from Thunder Rain Village with innate full spirit power that I told you about," Xu Qing said with a hint of regret.

"Ah, I remember now. You wouldn't stop talking about him back then," the man replied.

"Good morning, sirs," Lin Yongming greeted them politely.

"Young man, what brings you to the Spirit Hall today?" the woman, who appeared to be in her thirties but was actually around forty, asked kindly.

"I'm here to register as a spirit master. I heard that once registered, I can receive a stipend," Lin Yongming explained his purpose.

"Registering as a spirit master? Your name is Lin Yongming, right? Have you already obtained your first spirit ring? To register as a spirit master, you need at least one spirit ring," Xu Qing asked curiously, knowing about Lin Yongming's blindness.

"Yes, I've already obtained my first spirit ring," Lin Yongming nodded.

"That's great. But I'm curious, how did you obtain your first spirit ring?" Xu Qing couldn't help but ask.

Lin Yongming explained that the villagers had pooled their money to hire a hunter to help him obtain his first spirit ring, carefully omitting the fact that he had personally defeated the spirit beast.

"That's how it happened. Shortly after you left, the village chief gathered everyone to contribute money, and we barely managed to hire a hunter to capture a spirit beast for me to absorb the spirit ring," Lin Yongming spent about ten minutes explaining.

"Given your condition, that's a reasonable approach. However, even though you have innate full spirit power and have obtained your first spirit ring, we still need to follow the procedure. Our branch's bishop will personally test your spirit power before issuing your spirit master certificate," Xu Qing explained.

"I understand," Lin Yongming nodded.

"Good. The bishop is in the back. I'll take you to him. Do you need me to guide you?" Xu Qing offered.

"No need. Although I can't see, I've always had a strong sense of perception, and now that I have spirit power, I can walk on my own," Lin Yongming declined politely.

"Alright, follow me," Xu Qing said, leading the way out of the hall and toward the back.

As Lin Yongming confidently walked out of the hall, the other two deacons watched him with mixed feelings.

"To think he has the rare innate full spirit power, but is blind. What a pity," the woman said with a sigh.

"Indeed. The bishop even consulted the Pope about his condition, but since it couldn't be cured, they gave up on such a talented individual. Otherwise, he'd already be studying at the Spirit Hall Academy in Spirit City," the other deacon added, watching Lin Yongming's retreating figure.

Lin Yongming followed Xu Qing to a room at the back of the hall, where an elderly man sat on a jade cushion.

Xu Qing explained the purpose of their visit.

"Ah, so this is the innate full spirit power genius from Thunder Rain Village? As long as he meets the requirements, any spirit master can register with the Spirit Hall."

"Child, place your hand on the spirit power testing crystal and channel your spirit power," the bishop instructed.

Lin Yongming hesitated for a moment before placing his right hand on the crystal.

As he channeled his spirit power, the crystal emitted a bright light, indicating his spirit power level. The crystal's limit was at the Spirit King level, so Lin Yongming's output was quite impressive.

"Huh?"

"What's this?"

Both Xu Qing and the bishop exclaimed in surprise, staring at Lin Yongming's small figure.

"Bishop, am I seeing this correctly? His spirit power is at level 20?" Xu Qing asked in disbelief.

"You're not mistaken. It's indeed level 20. Child, how many years is your first spirit ring?" the bishop asked, astonished. Both of them were well aware of Lin Yongming's condition, and for him to reach level 20 in just a year was extraordinary.

"Here, take a look," Lin Yongming released his bright yellow spirit ring for them to see.

"A hundred-year spirit ring as your first! This is the terrifying potential of innate full spirit power. To reach level 20 in just a year, while others his age are still struggling to break through to the Spirit Master level," the bishop marveled.

"What a shame, truly a shame. Because of your blindness, you'll never be able to fight. Nevertheless, I'll issue your spirit master certificate," the bishop said, taking out a special document different from the awakening certificate.

The spirit master certificate recorded a person's spirit, spirit rings, and spirit power level.

Before long, Lin Yongming walked out of the Spirit Hall with his certificate and a gold spirit coin in hand.

"Bishop, what should we do about this situation? A seven-year-old with level 20 spirit power?" Xu Qing asked as he watched Lin Yongming leave.

"Sigh, we'll have to report this to the Pope and see if His Holiness is willing to invest in this child."

That very day, the bishop of the Wurto Town branch wrote a letter to the Pope and sent it off.
