Chapter 4: Innate Skills
Village Chief Resruo and Lin Chong were no children. Even an ordinary person would understand the significance of innate full soul power.
"Ming, has your eyesight improved?" Lin Chong immediately approached Lin Yongming, his voice filled with concern.
"Father, no, it hasn't," Lin Yongming replied with regret.
"Innate full soul power… this is innate full soul power! But Ming, your eyes… Ah! Why must fate be so cruel to you?" Village Chief Resruo's face was filled with disappointment.
A village producing someone with innate full soul power would, under normal circumstances, see its status rise significantly.
However, being born blind with no hope of a cure was almost akin to being a cripple.
Now, the village had finally produced a genius with innate full soul power, but the thought of Lin Yongming's blindness brought both joy and sorrow—a bittersweet moment.
"Alright, you two, I must head to the next village. When I return, I will report this situation to the bishop. I hope His Holiness the Pope can heal this child. Otherwise, it would be such a waste," the deacon said. He still had two more villages to visit and time was limited, so he bid his farewell.
"Honored Soul Master, let me escort you," the village chief offered immediately.
"No need," the deacon replied. With a light leap, he swiftly left the village.
"Grandpa, the Soul Master said my martial soul is the Swift Wind Wolf, with innate soul power of level two. Look, this is the proof he gave me," Lei Zhengming boasted to his grandfather.
"Good, good. You've done well, Ming," the village chief replied with a smile.
"Chong, don't lose hope. The Soul Master said Ming has innate full soul power. This means that as long as we can find him a soul beast, Ming can become a Soul Master."
"Moreover, the Soul Master mentioned reporting this to His Holiness the Pope. So, let's not be too pessimistic," the village chief encouraged Lin Yongming's father, Lin Chong.
"Chief, I understand. It's just that I can't help feeling a bit disheartened."
"Is this truly some kind of punishment?" Lin Chong shook his head with a bitter smile.
Lin Yongming felt a pang of guilt upon hearing Lin Chong's tone. Though he had the experience of two lifetimes, his heart was still human.
In this life, his parents had been nothing but kind to him.
In truth, Lin Yongming knew that his blindness wasn't permanent. If he could comprehend the final chapter of the Wave Secret Manual, he would be able to open his "mind's eye."
However, mastering the final chapter of the Wave Secret Manual would likely require him to reach the level of a Titled Douluo, or even become the Thunder God who commands lightning. For Lin Yongming at this stage, that goal seemed incredibly distant.
Eventually, Lin Yongming returned home with his father. Upon hearing the news, Yinglan silently shed tears once more.
"Mother, it's alright. Although I still can't open my eyes, I can now sense everything within a few meters. For example, two little birds are playfully heading toward our courtyard fence," Lin Yongming said, trying to comfort his parents by sharing the changes he had experienced.
"Huh?" Lin Chong quickly looked out the window and saw two sparrows playfully perched on the fence.
"Mother, it's true! Could this be the effect of having soul power?" Lin Chong exclaimed, patting his wife to draw her attention.
"Ming, what else can you see?" Yinglan asked eagerly, her spirits lifted.
"Hmm… there's a small dog outside the courtyard, chewing on grass," Lin Yongming replied.
"Good, good! There's finally some hope. Perhaps when your soul power increases, your eyes will heal on their own," Yinglan said, tears of joy streaming down her face as she hugged Lin Yongming.
Lin Yongming smiled faintly but said nothing. If he could bring even a little joy to his parents, why not?
The Mind's Eye skill wasn't exactly a form of spiritual power. It was an innate ability that didn't consume spiritual energy. It was more like a natural talent.
Thus, Lin Yongming could maintain the Mind's Eye state at all times. Though he couldn't see colors, it served as an alternative form of vision.
After lunch, Lin Yongming sat quietly on a stone bench in the courtyard. His parents had gone to work in the fields, leaving him the entire afternoon to delve deeper into the Wave Secret Manual.
It was then that Lin Yongming realized he now possessed five growth-type innate skills.
1. Mind's Eye:
Though his eyes couldn't see, he could sense all things. This skill allowed him to lock onto targets and deliver undiscriminating attacks.
2. Perception:
This skill enabled him to foresee danger and detect invisible killing intent. When combined with the Mind's Eye, it provided a clearer and more accurate view than normal vision, making it harder for him to be deceived.
3. Indomitable Will:
The more setbacks he faced, the stronger he became. This skill enhanced his attack power and even deepened his soul power compared to others at the same level.
4. Wave Imprint (Thunder Element):
This skill granted him an exceptional affinity for the natural element of thunder, strengthening his thunder-based attacks while reducing the soul power consumption required. For instance, while others might need 50% of their soul power to unleash an attack, Lin Yongming only needed 10% to achieve the same effect.
5. Killing Intent Wave:
The most crucial of his innate skills, this ability could intimidate and weaken enemies within a certain range, boosting his own attack power and aura. Against opponents weaker than him, activating this skill could inflict spiritual damage or even shatter their minds. However, it also consumed Lin Yongming's spiritual energy.
"So, this is the Wave Secret Manual of Asura," Lin Yongming thought to himself.
These were the familiar skills from the Asura class in the game he once played. Now, they had become his innate abilities.
Within the Wave Secret Manual, Lin Yongming also discovered three basic skills: Wave Slash, Earth Splitter, and Block.
Wave Slash: An upward-slashing attack with a slight control effect.
Earth Splitter: A forward-slashing attack with a knockback effect.
Block: A defensive skill that reduced incoming damage.
"It seems I'll need to practice these skills diligently," Lin Yongming thought.
With a thought, he summoned his martial soul, the Thunder Blade.
The Thunder Blade was two and a half feet long, with a deep blue blade. Tiny arcs of lightning occasionally crackled around it.
Lin Yongming ran his fingers along the blade, from tip to hilt.
Then, he began to swing the blade, each motion accompanied by the sound of thunder.
Since it was his martial soul, the six-year-old Lin Yongming wielded the two-and-a-half-foot blade with ease.
Unconsciously, he started practicing the basic skills—Wave Slash and Earth Splitter.
Nearly two hours later, with his arms sore and numb, Lin Yongming finally stopped.
As the sky turned red with the setting sun, the deacon from the Spirit Hall branch finished his visits to the remaining two villages and returned to the Wurto Town branch.
"Xu Qing, how did your visits go today?" the branch bishop asked.
"Bishop, I was just about to report. In Thunder Rain Village, I discovered a genius with an innate full soul power and a tool-type martial soul," the deacon replied respectfully.
"What?! Innate full soul power?"
"Such a talent—why didn't you bring them back?" the bishop exclaimed in shock.
