Chapter 12: Chapter 11: Soul Guidance Department's He Caitou!
Looking at the huge, elegant building with an entire separate area for itself and the department it belonged to, Yuhao had to admit—he underestimated how huge Shrek was! They had been running for more than 30 minutes to reach here, and they were Soul Masters, much quicker than normal people. And both Yuhao and Bei Bei were exceptionally strong physically too, meaning they were even faster than normal Soul Masters at their levels... reaching Soul Ancestor levels.
"...I feel like Xiao Ya and I were kicked in the head to think you had poor talent when we first met you." Bei Bei complained as Yuhao seemed barely affected after keeping up with him, while he himself was slightly winded.
"I have high endurance... if Perverted Brother lacks endurance, won't that be bad for the future?" Yuhao said normally, while Bei Bei became embarrassed and ashamed. Yuhao was confused why—he genuinely thought it'd be bad to be easily tired out in a prolonged battle.
"...Pervert." Yuhao said after realizing what Bei Bei had thought.
"I'm not! Anyone would misunderstand!" Bei Bei tried defending himself, only to receive Yuhao's gaze filled with contempt for his personality.
"...I truly wonder why those students admire you," Yuhao said, but Bei Bei knew this kid was joking. He seemed kind of cold and distant, but he was sarcastic yet helpful when needed... what was that word he once heard? Tsundere! That's right!
"...I feel you're thinking something bad about me." Yuhao said.
"You can even feel that?!"
"Aha! So you were thinking something bad about me!"
"...I was tricked!"
As these two bickered, they entered the Soul Guidance Department and went to the receptionist.
Why is there a receptionist in an Academy department?
"That's the place where they accept Soul Guide commissions. Based on the grade of Soul Guides required, they'll let us meet the Soul Engineer at the level we need... although the highest level we can now apply for is Level 5 Soul Guides. To get a Level 6 or above, we'll need to be inner court students or staff." Bei Bei explained to Yuhao, who nodded in understanding.
"Excuse me, I'd like to commission a Level 3 Attack Soul Guide." Bei Bei said to the young man currently acting as the receptionist.
"Senior Bei Bei?! Are you commissioning the Soul Guide for..." he asked, glancing at Yuhao.
"No, the Soul Guide is for me. I just dragged my junior here with me." Bei Bei explained, and the young man nodded.
"...Hm, there are a few people available, but the current Third Class Soul Engineers available are Li Mo, Su Han, and He Caitou... I would recommend He Caitou because he's Teacher Fan Yu's disciple," the young man said. "And that's especially more so if you need a destructive-type Soul Guide."
"...He Caitou? Okay!" Bei Bei nodded as he got the directions to He Caitou's current location, then went with Yuhao to meet him.
They arrived at a testing ground for Soul Engineers in the department under the directions of the young man and pressed a button on the outside door, which would inform the person inside that someone was outside.
They heard the sound of something falling and then footsteps as the door slid open to show an extremely big and tall bald young man with a tanned skin tone and a simple appearance.
"Welcome! Are you here to commission Soul Guides?" he asked.
"Ah! I'm sorry, I'm He Caitou." Caitou introduced himself to Yuhao and Bei Bei.
"Ah! Aren't you Bei Bei?! One of Shrek's Outer Courtyard's Gemini?!" He Caitou said, surprised. Yuhao, hearing that nickname for the first time, looked at Bei Bei with doubt.
"...Please don't call me that." Bei Bei said. If it was before, he'd have accepted the title with pride—but now? There's this guy Yuhao here, this monster. What Two Gemini of Shrek, what genius? Can they be better than a Two-Ring Soul Grandmaster who can beat up a Four-Ring Soul Ancestor? Even he, Bei Bei, would struggle a bit against someone like Gu Nian—but Yuhao did it easily.
(Skydream: No, buddy. If you had a System, a God, and a Million-Year-old Spirit Beast in your head, you'd be able to do it too... never mind, you wouldn't because you can never be as lucky as Yuhao.)
"Okay." He Caitou simply agreed.
"But Bei Bei, what brings you here? Don't you people of the Battle Spirit Department usually hate using Soul Guides?" He Caitou asked, confused.
"Ah, I have a duel with Xu Sanshi tomorrow. I want to defeat him and not always be in a tie." Bei Bei said a partial truth, while concealing the real reason—because even he knew it was kind of embarrassing. The only reason he'd told Yuhao was because of the incident in Star Dou Forest, where Yuhao saw his embarrassing self.
"Huh? That's... surprising." He Caitou said. The Battle Spirit Department was stubborn and old-fashioned and believed in Martial Souls, disdaining the use of Soul Guides.
He Caitou didn't ask more but asked Bei Bei what kind of Soul Guide he wanted.
"A physical attack-type Soul Guide... something that can be used in close combat and is good at breaking through defenses." Bei Bei said.
"Hm... A close-combat type?" He Caitou asked, and Bei Bei seemed to think and nod.
"What about a blade that can conduct your lightning and increase its output?" He Caitou asked.
"Why not just make gauntlets with blades on the knuckles?" Yuhao complained from the side after hearing them discuss, confused why they weren't doing that. He saw that Bei Bei was someone who fought without weapons, using his Martial Soul possession form's claws to fight.
"...That's not how Soul Guides work, Junior Brother Yuhao." Bei Bei wanted to explain, but He Caitou stopped him, because he himself realized... why not? Why should they make just a blade? After all, to high-level Soul Engineers—according to his Master Fan Yu—inspiration and ideas are more important than technical aspects.
"Junior! You're a freshman, right? How about you explain your idea to me?" He Caitou asked seriously, listening to Yuhao's opinion.
"Why not add the blades to the knuckles? Like daggers, while also making the fingers similar to claws? I don't know if it's possible, but can't you just make it so there's a retractable dagger-like blade near the wrist area for surprise attacks too? Why not make mini Soul Power storages that can use the energy to give sudden bursts when activated?" Yuhao said his opinions directly. All sorts of direct and sneaky attack methods that Bei Bei felt were a bit despicable—but He Caitou felt like a new door had opened for him.
"Brother! Join the Soul Guidance Department!" He Caitou said, calling Yuhao "brother" as he held Yuhao's shoulders, his eyes shining brightly as if looking at treasure.
