Chapter 42: Dust Hero: Sand?

When none of the students left their seats, Sand shut the door.

Among the students, except Luke, only Momo had seen Sand before. She remembered him fighting with the Meta Puppets who had attacked during her birthday last year.

So, despite not knowing the full extent of what Sand was capable of, she knew he was as strong as any Pro Hero. Perhaps, a touch more.

Sand coldly stared at the students.

"Now, you must be thinking what's the use of Hand-to-Hand Combat," he said, turning on the projector. "Why fight with hands, when you can just use your Quirk, right?"

The students shared a look, knowing well that they were thinking the same thing.

Then, as the lights dimmed, the projector played a video at the front.

It was from the Practical Exams — showing Luke and Bakugo.

Bakugo sat up straight on his chair, clenching his jaw.

Then, the students saw Bakugo maddeningly rushing at Luke.

For a moment, they all thought that they would be seeing a bird fighting for Luke, trying to hold Bakugo back.

However, contrary to their guesses, and their shock, Luke just blurred, grabbed Bakugo's arm, and tripped him on the ground.

With Luke's knee pressed into his back, and him holding the boy's wrists, the fallen Bakugo could do nothing but rage it out.

The video stopped.

The lights returned.

Everyone was staring at Bakugo as the boy stared at Sand.

"No matter what type of Hero you are," Sand said, bringing attention to himself, "you must have the ability to come out of a pinch. Things will not remain in your favor always.

"Now, put your uniforms on. We will be spending the rest of the day out."

The students were still skeptical about it, but they weren't in a position to question a teacher.

"Sir." Tsuyu raised her hand. "Uniforms?"

Sand smirked. "Yeah," he said, the drawers in the wall coming out, spewing steam. "It's here. Your Hero Costumes."

Costumes?!

A wave of cheers coursed through the students as they rushed to get their costumes.

"You didn't submit a Costume request?" Momo asked as she returned to her seat.

Luke shook his head and patted his bag. "I am carrying it with me."

"Alright," Sand said as the students looked back at him with a wide grin on their faces. "Put them on and meet me in Ground Zeta."

Ground Zeta was a spacious, domed-roof building with different zones.

Sand was standing in the Green Zone, having grassy ground with lots of space to move around.

Then, from one of the Entry Points to the Zone, the students began walking out, all donning their Costumes.

Sand stared flatly at the students as they lined up in front of him, all wearing silly smiles on their faces.

Must be nice… Sand thought as he saw the students complimenting each other. To not know the cruelty of this world at their ages…

Then, Sand's eyes landed on Luke, standing as silently as him in one corner.

Luke was donning his million-dollar costume, with Nyx on his shoulder.

Their eyes matched.

Luke smiled.

He's grown a lot… Sand thought, looking away. I hope you will not grow complacent among the children, Luke.

The world's fate might rest on your shoulders. Still… it's not bad to enjoy the moment, I guess.

Meanwhile, Midoriya ran out, joining the students as well, Uraraka making him blush with a compliment.

On the other side, Mina looked around and hopped to Luke.

"That's a simple get-up," she said. "But… you look cool. Awesome…"

Luke smiled. This was much better than Aina. That kid had almost jumped on him when she saw the costume.

I guess all girls are the same, Luke thought. They all like expensive, black clothes.

Nyx stared at Luke, knowing exactly what he was thinking, and facepalmed.

"This is Prism Sky," Mina said, pointing at her clothes. "Took me months to design it."

She was wearing a purple and turquoise skin-tight bodysuit with a camouflage pattern. Over this, she wore an unbuttoned waistcoat and a white mask over her eyes.

"It's nice," Luke nodded.

"Yeah? Hehe…"

"Alright," Sand said, putting a stop to all chatter. "There will be only one lesson today — to know where you stand."

He looked at Luke, then. "Come here."

Sigh! Luke almost shook his head. Knowing Sand, there was no way this would end without blooding his hands…

As Luke stood next to Sand, Midoriya mumbled to himself. "Why does it feel like… they know each other…"

"That's because they do," Momo told him. "He was the Head Bodyguard of Saionji Group before taking up a teacher's position at UA."

What? A Bodyguard?!

All of them shared looks and then looked at Momo, hoping to know more.

"I don't know much," Momo said, feeling a bit unnerved. It was especially so because of the way Minoru kept looking at her up and down. "He was there at the Meta Puppets Incident.

"He singlehandedly held back one of the Villains… that's saying something given the number of Quirk-Users it took to barely keep people alive from the other one.

"There isn't much on him online, but he is registered on Pro Heroes Website as the Dust Hero: Sand."

Dust Hero…

Meanwhile, as the students discussed what could be Sand's Quirk, Sand put a hand on Luke's shoulder.

"I want you to give them a reality check," he said. "Don't hold back… It would be a good time for you to know your limits as well."

Luke sighed inwardly.

With the Recovery Girl at the campus, he had guessed this would happen.

Still, as he nodded at Sand, he knew he would need to hold back a bit.

Given the rise in his strength after drinking Marauder's Potion, he could truly end up hurting the children.

"I want all of you to fight Luke today," Sand said, shocking everyone. "He will not use his Quirk. So, attacking him will be almost like attacking a Quirkless person. Also, you can use your Quirk as you want."

"… That's not fair…" Uraraka complained.

Sand stared at her. He smiled. "We will see. So, who will come first…"

Before Sand could even finish the question, Bakugo had stepped up with a wild grin on his face.

"I don't mind using my Quirk on him," he said, sparks coming out from his palm.

Sand nodded. "Give them space. Nyx… don't interfere."

Nyx rolled her eyes and flew away to another zone, looking forward to reading the latest book in her favorite series.

Between Sand on one side and the crowd of students on the other, Luke and Bakugo faced each other.

"OK…" Sand shouted. "3… 2…"

Booom!

Bakugo shot over the ground before the countdown, laughing.

Luke lifted his hands, relaxing his shoulders.

Suddenly, Bakugo changed his direction.

"Think I will fall for it again?!" he shouted.

Then, showing great athleticism and making the students gasp, Bakugo fired a short explosion to go over Luke, reaching behind him.

"Haha!" Bakugo laughed, holding out his right palm.

And, with a deafening boom, the explosion covered everything in front of him.
