Dragon Ball: I Am Broly

Chapter 38: Mission #2

Is this Sukuna?

The thought flashed through Nobara's mind like lightning as she stared at the figure emanating an aura vastly different from the Special-Grade curse they had just encountered.

No... this... this was on another level entirely.

The difference was staggering. Sukuna's presence was suffocating, making it hard for her to even breathe under the weight of his murderous intent.

Nobara wanted to intervene, to stop what was about to happen.

But she stopped herself immediately.

It didn't matter if it was Broly or Sukuna—nothing she said or did would make a difference. This was completely out of her league.

As she wrestled with her thoughts, a low chuckle broke the silence.

"Pfft!" Vermouth raised a hand to her lips, trying to stifle her laughter. "Does this so-called King of Curses even understand what he's saying?"

Chu Mengxi chuckled softly. "Calling Broly 'prey'... that's a new one. It's like an ant trying to uproot a tree."

Both spoke calmly, not even bothering to lower their voices. Nobara realized that, indirectly, they were mocking her too—something that made her feel a bit embarrassed.

She forced a timid smile, though the tension was still evident in her posture.

Despite their words, her mind was filled with doubt.

Is Broly really stronger than Sukuna?

Things were still unclear to her, and until she saw proof with her own eyes, she couldn't just accept it.

The air grew even heavier as Vermouth and Chu Mengxi's words reached Sukuna's ears.

His expression turned colder.

"I've changed my mind..." he said quietly. "I'll eliminate you two first. Then, I'll deal with him."

Without warning, Sukuna lunged at them.

It was like a flash of lightning. Nobara barely managed to follow his movement as the King of Curses leapt into the air. His right hand rose, claws cutting through the air with a sharp, slicing sound.

Nobara held her breath, her eyes wide with fear. Vermouth and Chu Mengxi, though able to track his movements, showed no intention of running.

Their faith in Broly was unshakable.

And as if their confidence was a guarantee, Broly appeared at the exact moment.

His figure intercepted the attack with precision as sharp as clockwork.

Boom

The impact reverberated through the air, shockwaves spreading like an invisible torrent.

Broly had stopped Sukuna's strike with a single finger.

His hair swayed slightly from the force, but his expression remained completely calm. There was no emotion, no sign of effort in his eyes. He floated in the air like an unmovable mountain.

!

Sukuna's fist trembled slightly against Broly's finger.

For the first time in a long while, the King of Curses felt something akin to doubt.

He retreated through the air, using the force of the impact to land over ten meters away.

His eyes gleamed with fury and astonishment. It wasn't just that Broly was strong; his speed, his precision... everything about him exceeded what Sukuna had faced before.

"If that's all you've got," Broly said in a calm tone, "you'd better let Itadori Yuji take control of his body peacefully."

Sukuna's face twisted into a grin at his words.

"What did you just say?"

From her position, Nobara watched the scene with relief. Broly hadn't just stopped Sukuna's attack; he'd done it effortlessly.

"Sukuna, you can't beat Broly. Don't waste your time. Give Itadori back his body. Go back to where you belong!" she finally said, finding the courage to speak.

Vermouth and Chu Mengxi nodded, confident smiles on their faces.

"Yeah! Just go back already," Vermouth added with disdain.

Their words, filled with mockery and contempt, reverberated in Sukuna's ears, wounding his pride.

His expression darkened, and a twisted smile crept across his lips.

He glared fiercely at Broly and the others.

"Hmph..." he scoffed, "That boy... he can't come back."

Itadori Yuji?

A low, rough laugh rumbled from his throat, dripping with disdain.

"That brat was crushed long ago. That curse tore him apart. Thinking about life, about death..." Sukuna clicked his tongue, mocking the existential doubts that plagued Itadori. "All just meaningless human nonsense."

The one who had once shared his body was now nothing more than a shadow of what he had been. There was no way he could take control again.

Not against him.

Suddenly, Sukuna leaned forward slightly. Like a wolf stalking its prey, his muscles tensed before he launched himself forward with explosive force.

The power of his leap kicked up a cloud of dust, and in seconds, he landed where the Special-Grade curse had been defeated.

Without hesitation, he crouched and plunged his hand into the rubble, pulling out an object that glimmered faintly among the debris.

It was a long finger with a sharp, black nail.

Holding it in his fingers, he stared at it with a mix of nostalgia and triumph. He didn't think twice. Sukuna opened his mouth and swallowed the finger whole.

Thud

A deep, drum-like sound echoed through the area. Nobara, who had been watching, screamed in desperation.

"Be careful!"

The aura around Sukuna changed instantly. Overwhelming cursed energy radiated from his body, distorting the very space around him.

Vermouth and Chu Mengxi exchanged tired looks.

Both sighed at the same time—they'd seen this spectacle too many times before.

"Seriously?" Vermouth shrugged with resignation.

"Nobara never learns," Chu Mengxi replied, a touch of mockery in her voice.

They both grabbed Nobara before she could take a step forward.

"Relax," Vermouth said with forced patience. "You don't need to do anything. Watch and learn."

"Broly's here," Chu Mengxi added with a smile, though her eyes lacked any real enthusiasm. "This is just a show for him."

Nobara looked at both of them, still uneasy, but said nothing. Her gaze returned to Sukuna, who now laughed like a maniac.

"Kekekekeke!"

Sukuna's grotesque laughter filled the air, his face contorting more and more with every second. His lips stretched unnaturally, almost reaching his ears, giving him a monstrous appearance.

"My power has returned!" he roared, his voice booming like thunder. "It's only a part... but it's enough to kill all of you!"

As he shouted, he slowly turned to face Broly.

"I knew I'd find it..." he muttered, his eyes glinting with cunning as he recalled the finger he had unearthed. But his expression darkened slightly as he realized something.

That finger wasn't just a piece of his soul. Someone had used it to spawn that Special-Grade curse.

Sukuna didn't know who was pulling the strings behind all this, but for now, it didn't matter.

What mattered now was the man standing before him.

But, truth be told, Sukuna's thoughts were merely his imagination running wild.

That finger had survived only because Broly hadn't paid it any attention. Otherwise, how could a mere piece of Sukuna have escaped the power of his snap?

If Broly had unleashed even a fraction of his Ki, the finger would have been obliterated.
