Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Captain Ginyu’s Ability
Dinner time.
Levos and Bulma sat across from each other, quietly enjoying the delicacies Bulma had stashed away.
"Levos, whenever I've had spare time lately, I've been trying to study the structure of this strange space," Bulma said, setting down her utensils. "But I'll probably need to step outside to research it properly for a while."
She frowned slightly. "This isn't exactly my area of expertise. At best, I can make some minor adjustments based on the original design."
Levos nodded softly. He was already more than satisfied with what Bulma had done so far. There was no need to push for more.
"Let's put that on hold for now."
After all, studying the mechanics of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber wasn't something that could be accomplished overnight.
And with less than half a day left until Babidi's Martial Arts Tournament began, there really wasn't time for such an ambitious project.
"Oh, by the way, I've already finished developing your battle suit. Our bodies are incredibly durable now, but the clothes we've been wearing can't keep up. They get shredded every time we train."
Bulma opened a small box on the table.
Inside was a battle suit designed in the style of the old Frieza Force armor. No shoulder pads, no hip guards. Just core body protection.
It came with a black undersuit, gloves, and boots.
At this point, the suit's flexibility and defensive capabilities weren't that important to either of them.
The main reason for making it, as Bulma said, was because ordinary clothes simply couldn't handle the impact of their battles anymore.
They couldn't risk fighting and having their clothes explode off at any moment.
Levos was a bit surprised that Bulma didn't make her own suit first.
But after thinking about it, he realized it made sense. There were ready-made templates for male battle suits, while the female design would probably require more thoughtful adjustments.
"Bulma, do you remember Captain Ginyu? Back then, he turned into a blue frog."
Levos wanted to see if he could get any information about Ginyu and honestly, he was genuinely curious.
In the original Namek arc, Bulma never actually met Ginyu in the manga.
But in Toei's anime filler, they extended the storyline and added a scene where Ginyu swapped bodies with Bulma.
When Ginyu was losing to Vegeta, he tried to use his Body Change on him, but the beam hit a Namekian frog that Goku had thrown.
Thanks to Goku's last-minute intervention, Ginyu barely escaped with his life.
After swapping bodies with the frog, Ginyu later encountered Bulma.
Bulma, thinking the frog seemed unusually intelligent, built it a translator device to help it communicate.
The moment the frog wore the translator, the first words it spoke through the device were the incantation for Body Change.
Ginyu immediately stole Bulma's body.
Fortunately, Gohan quickly realized something was off and, in the middle of the battlefield, threw the frog-shaped Bulma into the path of Ginyu's swap beam just as he was about to switch with Piccolo.
That's how they got their bodies back.
"Ginyu? That cursed blue frog's name was Ginyu?" Bulma's expression twisted, as if she had suddenly recalled a traumatic memory.
Levos couldn't hold back his grin.
So this Bulma really did have that piece of black history. Well, that certainly made things easier.
At least he didn't need to waste time explaining Ginyu's special ability to her.
"That frog's been living on Earth ever since the Namekian battle."
"That bastard actually came to Earth? Did he cause any more trouble?" Bulma was still a bit confused about where Levos was going with this.
"Whether he did or not, I don't know. But if we want to beat Dabura, we might need to use his special ability."
Levos explained the situation. After a body swap, not being familiar with the new body would cause a dramatic drop in battle power.
"You want that frog to take over Dabura's body?"
Bulma instantly caught on to his plan.
"Exactly. The problem now is whether you can build something like a frog attractor to help me find Ginyu."
The Earth was massive. Where would he even begin to look for a frog-turned-alien like Ginyu?
And as a small, weak frog, what were the odds he even survived the apocalypse?
For all Levos knew, some desperate survivor might've caught him and cooked him over a fire by now.
After all, people in the apocalypse were much less picky about what they ate.
The more he thought about it, the less hopeful he felt.
Bulma pondered for a moment before replying.
"Making a device to attract specific biological signatures isn't difficult. But deploying enough of them across the entire planet would require an astronomical number of devices. With just the two of us, there's no way we can manufacture that many in time."
"However," she added, "I might be able to track him using the internet."
Classic Bulma, always the problem solver.
Levos looked at her with admiration. "Track him using the internet? What's your plan?"
"Levos, did you forget? We can just post a bounty on the survivor forums. If the reward is high enough, people will definitely help us look."
Bulma crossed her arms as she explained.
"Wait, what does that alien frog look like again?"
Levos furrowed his brows, trying to recall.
"I'll never forget that bastard's appearance! Blue skin, red eyes, a pair of antennae on his head, and a body that's noticeably larger than Earth's regular frogs…" Bulma's voice was filled with disgust, clearly not fond of the memory.
"Wait a second… I feel like I've seen something like that before." Levos slapped his thigh in realization. "Someone's already posted him for sale on the forums!"
"Really?!" Bulma was instantly excited.
It all came flooding back to Levos.
Back when he was using Bulma's computer at Capsule Corp, he'd seen a post selling a blue-skinned bullfrog.
Out of curiosity, he'd even clicked on the image.
But at the time, his head was filled with plans to revive Goku and the other main heroes, hoping to rely on them to deal with the coming crises.
He never connected the dots. It didn't even cross his mind that the odd little frog could be Captain Ginyu.
Back then, he'd dismissed it as some cheap sales gimmick by an unscrupulous vendor.
And now, two years had flown by…
Wait, no! Only two days had passed in the outside world!
But even so, the situation wasn't great. For all he knew, Ginyu might've already been caught and eaten.
If that happened, this whole plan would fall apart!
"That's right! I need to find him immediately. He could be in danger!" Levos quickly put on the battle suit Bulma had prepared for him.
"Wait, I'll go with you," Bulma said, standing up.
"No, Bulma, you need to stay here. I need you to build an animal language translator for me and keep working on the battle suit. Once you're done, you can meet up with me later."
Bulma looked at him, clearly worried. "But Levos, I can't just let you go alone."
"Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
Levos grabbed the computer from the table, then went to the storage room to collect some supplies before rushing out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
Bulma could only watch him leave and sigh helplessly.
