Dragon Ball: My Earthly Rebirth

Chapter 32: Chapter 5: Yamcha is Eliminated

Goku was the last to draw lots, but the host mispronounced his name because he didn't recognize it. It was only after Yamcha's reminder that he read it correctly. In the end, Goku drew number 7 and would face the dinosaur man, Giran.

This also meant that if John and Goku could eliminate their opponents, they would meet in the semifinals.

Upon realizing this, John and Goku locked eyes, and Goku excitedly said, "John, we can finally have a good fight!"

John replied, "Goku, I won't hold back!"

Both of them radiated a fierce fighting spirit that sent shivers down the spines of the other competitors watching.

Soon, a loud gong sounded, signaling the official start of the finals.

The first match was Krillin against a barbarian. For John, who already knew the outcome, this match wasn't worth watching; besides, the barbarian smelled terrible, and John really didn't want to be near the ring to endure that stench.

So John chose to quietly adjust his mindset in the resting area and continue training towards his intended state of focus.

As John entered his training mode, the noise from outside gradually faded from his ears.

Before long, Goku and Krillin walked in.

Krillin excitedly said to John, "John, did you see? I won! I defeated my opponent and made it to the semifinals!"

John smiled and nodded, saying, "Krillin, I knew that barbarian wasn't your match. You didn't disappoint us."

Hearing John's praise made Krillin beam with joy.

At that moment, Goku said, "John, Yamcha is up next! Let's go cheer for him!"

John nodded in agreement; after all, Krillin had won. He didn't need to watch because he trusted in Krillin's strength.

But Yamcha was different; after all, Yamcha's opponent was Master Roshi, who would easily defeat him without any chance of counterattack. Therefore, John still needed to cheer for Yamcha.

Soon the second match was about to begin. Everyone walked over to the ring to watch Master Roshi battle Yamcha.

Goku leaned against a brick wall and shouted loudly, "Yamcha, go for it!"

The spectators saw two competitors in the ring: one was an exceptionally handsome young man full of wildness and the other an old man with white hair. Everyone began cheering for Yamcha.

Only a few male spectators were envious of Yamcha's looks and cheered for Master Roshi instead.

Master Roshi heard the sparse cheers from below and noticed that only a few people were supporting him—mostly men—and he felt displeased. He prepared to teach this pretty boy in front of him a lesson.

With a loud clang of the gong, the second match officially began.

Master Roshi casually stood on stage with numerous openings available for attack.

Seeing Master Roshi's stance surprised both Goku and Krillin.

John explained to them: "You see? This Jackie Chun must be a master. Although he seems full of openings, his opponent won't know which opening to attack; they can't tell which are real openings and which are fake."

"It's certain that this match is dangerous for Yamcha."

After saying this, the three turned their attention back to Yamcha. Although he assumed an offensive stance, Yamcha hesitated to attack—indicating he had realized this point too.

Unfortunately, recognizing it didn't change Yamcha's current predicament.

The audience noticed that neither competitor was attacking and began booing. Especially those male spectators who had long disliked Yamcha started shouting for him to get off stage.

Under pressure from the audience, Yamcha leaped forward to attack Master Roshi but found their power disparity too great; Master Roshi easily dodged every one of Yamcha's attacks.

As he attacked, Master Roshi remarked: "Young man, your ineffective attacks are far too many."

"Martial arts battles aren't about showing off or looking good; what matters is hitting your opponent."

"If you can't hit your opponent, no matter how cool your moves are, it's just a waste of energy." After saying this, Master Roshi jumped high to evade Yamcha's lunge and landed behind him.

Yamcha looked at his opponent with hands behind his back and made no counterattack; he felt indignant. He knew he wasn't a match for this old man but felt disrespected by such an attitude.

Yamcha angrily said: "Are you looking down on me because you won't fight back?!"

"Young man, don't be so hot-headed. I'm not fighting back because I want you to show more of your skills. If I strike back now, I fear you won't be able to take even one hit," Master Roshi replied.

Yamcha grew even more furious and shouted: "Stop looking down on me! Hurry up and fight; don't let me look down on you!"

Seeing that it was time to end this playful exchange, Master Roshi decided it was indeed time to finish the fight. He lowered his hands from behind his back and said: "Since that's how it is, I'll make my move now; you'd better be careful."

Hearing that Jackie Chun was finally going to strike made Yamcha quickly assume a defensive stance; he wanted to endure as many hits as possible without losing face too badly.

Master Roshi slowly extended both hands together in prayer position to gather energy at his palms.

At once this scene felt familiar to several competitors watching nearby; they all turned their heads toward John since he had used this technique earlier to eliminate his opponent.

Yamcha was also a contestant from Ring One and had witnessed John's performance before; upon seeing Jackie Chun's actions he immediately understood what was about to happen and shouted: "Stop looking down on me!"

After saying this, he crossed his arms over his chest and positioned himself in a bow stance ready to defend against Jackie Chun's attack.

Seeing Yamcha's pose confused the surrounding audience; they began shouting for both fighters on stage to continue battling. However, before their voices could settle,

Master Roshi had already finished gathering energy. He raised his right hand high and swung it forcefully as a gust of wind swept through.

The swirling dust forced spectators nearby to close their eyes while Yamcha faced directly into this gale; he only managed to hold on for two or three seconds before being blown off stage by the strong wind.

When everyone reopened their eyes they found Yamcha eliminated and stood there puzzled over what had just happened.

It wasn't until the host announced loudly: "Jackie Chun wins!" that everyone erupted into warm applause.
